The Liar

Akilia knows what she wants and, generally, knows how to get it. She's willing to wait patiently to get what she wants, though her mother will often press her to act sooner if she thinks there is a good opportunity. When she has a goal to follow, she will stay focused on it; she is determined to get what she wants, no matter how long it takes. With the help of her mother, she has also grown to be quite cunning and manipulative, learning to read others with ease and know what buttons to press to get the right reactions out of them. However, all of her determination and patience has led her to be rather obsessive about attaining her goals. Furthermore, she is quite stubborn, not willing to change her ways or admit that maybe what her mother is pushing her to do isn't right. Deep down she does know that what she's doing might not be the great deed she thinks it is, but whether or not that's something she'll ever accept and acknowledge is different.

P12: Who (or what) is this pride member’s greatest enemy? 150 word minimum

The Oracle

Akilia is the Isle of Roses' Oracle, meaning it is her job to commune with the pride's ancestors so she can receive and relay any messages they have for the pride. This means she spends a lot of time in solitude, save for the time she chooses to spend with her Learner Oracle, as she is meant to always be available to receive a message; too much time spent among the pride could result in her being distracted and missing some crucial piece of information that the ancestors need to share. However, what the pride is unaware of is that Akilia cannot speak with the ancestors. In actuality, the only ancestor she can speak with is her mother, who appeared to her a little while after her untimely death. The only reason she is even Oracle is due to her mother's interference. Her mother, before approaching Akilia, had scoped out the Isle of Roses, and led Akilia there, all the while insisting that it was Akilia's job to take over the pride and lead them the way they should be led. (Or, to be more specific, the way Akilia's mother taught Akilia that prides should be led.) A day before Akilia's arrival, Akilia's mother left a message in the leaves by Nasaba's den: crying. When Akilia showed up the next day, baring a name that meant "crying" and, under her mother's encouragement, claiming to be able to communicate with the ancestors, she was quickly elected to be the pride's Oracle.

Seeing as the spirit of her dead mother visits her and dictates many of the actions Akilia takes in her life, it's hard for Akilia not to believe in the supernatural. She definitely believes in the existence of spirits, though like most of the Isle of Roses, believes they can only appear to select individuals. She is not one of the lions blessed with the ability to commune with them, but she has determined there must be some way for them to decide to visit someone who isn't gifted with such a talent, or else her mother wouldn't be able to speak with her. This all has led to her believing in the ancestors as the Isle of Roses does, knowing that lions like Laani can and do actually speak with all of the ancestors, receiving messages and warnings from them. Even her own mother isn't as powerful as the ancestors, at least not within the realm of the Isle of Roses, as she does not originate from the pride and is working alone.

Their den

P14: Describe this lions den, is it neat and orderly or messy? 150 word minimum or flat color drawing minimum

If questioned and made to speak honestly, Akilia would say that her greatest fear would be getting caught plotting against Nasaba. She is afraid of what the pride would do if they found out what she's plotting, even though her mother has her convinced that it is for the pride's own good. However, Akilia has a deeper, greater fear that she hasn't allowed herself to acknowledge, and that is the fear that maybe, just maybe, her mother is wrong. What if she's making the biggest mistake of her life by staging a coup in the Isle of Roses? The thought looms in her subconscious, just barely being avoided by her conscious stream of thought.
As Akilia's backstory would suggest, her greatest dream is for her mother to be proud of her. More than that, however, she dreams that her mother will actually express that to her. Ever since she was a cub, Akilia has aspired to win her mother's pride, going to any and all lengths. Sadly, as a cub what she did was never enough. Now, for once, her mother actually seems to believe she has a purpose. If she can "fix" the Isle of Roses, Akilia is certain that she will finally be a daughter that her mother will be proud to have. Perhaps that's why Akilia cannot bring herself to accept the painful reality that this might not be the best course of action; if she accepts that, she is accepting that her greatest dream will never be fulfilled.

P8: What annoys this pride member, or acts as a pet peeve? 100 word minimum
P7: What does this pride member’s name mean (if it has a meaning) and how does it represent them? 100 word minimum
Akilia's greatest motivator is, without a doubt, her mother's presence in her life. No matter what she does, she is not able to escape the shadow of her mother, though it is not likely that Akilia realizes how much of an effect her mother has on her life. When her mother asks her to do something, Akilia does it, even if she has reservations, because she is desperate to gain her mother's favor. After all, her greatest dream is for her mother to be proud of her; how can she be proud of her daughter if her daughter won't do anything that she asks her to? Even if her mother doesn't ask her to do it, if Akilia believes it might have any impact on her opinion, she will do it. It has, in a sense, consumed her; almost everything pales in comparison to the importance of her mother's approval.

Let Me Make You Proud from Rapunzel's Tangled Adventures - Before her mother died, all Akilia wanted was to make her proud. Akilia knew that she made a lot of mistakes. There were plenty of times when Akilia felt that all she did was make mistakes and disappoint her mother. After she died, Akilia thought she'd never be able to fulfill that goal, but then she came back. Her mother had returned from the grave, telling her she was intended for great things. Great things that, if she accomplished them, would make her mother be proud of her. Suddenly, Akilia stood a chance again at proving to her mother that she wasn't just a failure. That spurred Akilia onto the path that she's on now, determined to prove to her mother that she is far better than the cub she left behind.
Nightmare by Natewantstobattle - In the back of her mind, Akilia knows what she's doing is wrong. Subconsciously, a small part of her brain knows that the monster is not Nasaba, but herself and her mother. That part of her wants to cry, scream, beg for someone to stop her, but she's so blinded by her compulsion to make her mother proud that she won't stop. If Akilia could see herself for what she truly is, she'd be horrified at what she's become. Deep down, she knows she is on a path to become the monster she believes she intends to usurp, but no one sees past the facade of an Oracle that her mother helps her keep. She's trapped herself in this lie, but she refuses to acknowledge it. And so, the tiny part of her brain is forced to wait, hope, and pray that somehow, someday, she comes to her senses...before it's too late.
Monster by Beth Crowley - Akilia knows that Nasaba would never understand the truth. He'd never understand that her coup is necessary, that her assuming leadership of the pride is the only way for the pride to flourish. He's given her a place of power unwittingly, a place where she can say anything is from the ancestors and many of the pride members will fall over themselves to fulfill their requests. Her mother has made it clear that Akilia will have to kill Nasaba if she is to fix the pride and live up to her potential. She must be merciless and know that Nasaba will see her actions as monstrous, because he won't expect his own Oracle to turn on him in such a fashion. That's part of the reason she must do the task her mother has appointed for her to do.
Antidote by Faith Marie - If she were to be honest with herself, Akilia is terrified of what her mother has turned her into. She blocks it out, but in reality, no one knows what she is dealing with. A part of Akilia isn't even sure that the thing guiding her is, in fact, her mother. She wants to be okay, because if she were to really look at herself and be honest, she'd recognize that she truly is terrified of what she's become. When she succeeds in her coup, if she succeeds, a small part of Akilia knows she's going to be filled with regret. She's going to want to take it back, to make everything okay, but because of her attempts to make things okay, she will have shattered any semblance of okay for longer than even she realizes. Somehow, Akilia doesn't seem to realize the solution to the problem of her mother is something that, as of right now, only she can address. She can change what she is going to do, make a different path for herself. Sadly, it seems like Akilia has been driven too far by her mother, so blinded to the truth in herself, that she'll never realize how she truly feels about what she has set out to do.
I Am Not Nothing by Beth Crowley - When Akilia's mother was alive, she made her feel terrible. Akilia never felt like she could live up to her expectations, believing everything her mother said about her. Her mother made her feel like nothing, and when her mother died, despite the distressing realization that she could never make her mother see her potential, Akilia felt a certain relief. After all, she was finally free of her. She could write her own story, and prove that her mother did not define her. Her mother's return into her life erased any ideas Akilia had of doing such things, but deep down, Akilia wishes she could tell her mother she had changed. Sadly, she's too caught up in trying to prove herself to her mother to be her own person instead, and show how far she has come in moving on from how her mother treated her.
My Version of You by Beth Crowley - Akilia's idealization of her mother has grown into idolization. Deep down, she realizes that. And the more Akilia tries to do as her mother instructs, wanting to make her proud, the more Akilia realizes that the picture she has of her mother is not the same as who her mother truly is. It's a fact that Akilia is desperate to not accept it, wanting to believe that her mother is perfect, but they've both changed. When her mother died, Akilia didn't want to let her go. When her mother returned as a spirit, seemingly for once needing her, Akilia clung to it, desperate for the chance to make everything she dreamed of as a cub true. Who is she going to become if she gives her mother up? Even if the version of her mother that she has formed is not true, isn't that better than the alternative?
Angel of Darkness by Alex Christnesen - The world, at least the Isle of Rose's world, is in Akilia's paws. If she enacts her plans, is she going to bring peace or pain? Akilia is terrified deep down of what she might become in her attempts to play the savior her mother wants her to be. Despite what her mother says and the signs Akilia believes she's seen that signify Nasaba's weak leadership, Akilia isn't sure that destroying the pride's current structure is what she should do to save them. Will she really be seen as the pride's hero if she goes through with her mother's plan, or are they going to see her as the one that destroyed their peace? Even if Akilia won't actively confront these thoughts, they are ever present. She may believe she is fighting evil, but a part of her fears that she will prove to be the evil all along.
