An ancient hero of quaialin lore, whose continued presence in the marshlands is considered a blessing to the quaialin tribes who raise their young there. Jae is strongly regarded as a guardian and often petitioned for help in emergencies-- which have been blessedly few in the last few centuries. She's most likely to be seen watching over hatchlings while their parents are away, and her calm and gentle nature is well-known to all.

Personality

Jae is a quiann of few words. When she must communicate, she does so in sign; she almost never speaks aloud, and many decades have passed since her voice was last heard.

Despite this, she is heavily involved in quaialin society. She is the de facto protector of the Bloodsong Wetlands, where the majority of the species' children are born and raised, and she is always minding at least a half dozen of them. She adores children, and quite happily spends her days playing with and caring for those under her care. She can only be roused to anger when one of them is in danger.

She misses her twin, but understands more than any why he felt the need to leave. Demigods are generally made from beings who weren't supposed to live as long as they do, and even she feels time pulling uncomfortably at the edges of her consciousness.

Jae was born on Senti in 2372, in the midst of a great war with invaders from another world. The invaders wanted to lay claim to the magic in the heart of the planet, but were also enslaving the quaialin to accomplish this. Jae and her twin, Sha'a'lin, were born from an egg the goddess Aisenn infused with the souls of the dying quaialin gods Sadirn and Chiam into a world in crisis.

The twins were clearly special from the day they were born; while all quaialin are born in male/female pairs, Jae and Sha'a'lin were the only non-identical twins to be recorded in their peoples' entire history. They'd each inherited incredible magical power from the souls of the gods they'd been imbued with, and for the still free quaialin, they felt like one of their last hopes for an end to the war.

Which really wasn't an incorrect assumption. The twins came into their powers as they aged, and together they were able to destory the invading army's footholds and banish them to the stars once more.

The twins parted ways when the final battle was done; Jae returned to their people while Sha'a'lin vanished into the wilderness. Jae weathered the celebrations, helped the people rebuild, then settled herself in at Bloodsong. She hadn't initially planned on staying there permanently, but as the quaialin began resettling the area, her joy at watching the children grow up in freedom commanded her to stay.

Jae has watched many generations of quaialin hatch since. She became minorly involved when the strangers from Terra arrived from the rift that opened in an old Saenshi temple, but while her twin went into the new world to explore, she returned to her home in the wetlands.

Current Day

Jae remains living in Bloodsong, doing much as she's always done. Perhaps in a few centuries, she'll feel like getting involved again in the more chaotic areas of life, but for now she's quite content to rest, watch the little ones, and dream of pleasant things.
