   TEKUKA

Tekuka is a cyborg who was formerly an experiment created by the company Ares. When he was found to contain the cure for the toxin plaguing the city, they wanted to force him to undergo a painful procedure to extract it, so he died to avoid that fate. As Ares still needed the cure, he was revived as a cyborg, and in exchange for his revival he requested three things: to charge with a cord instead of sleeping, to have his eye color changed, and to have all of his memories removed. However, Tekuka could still recall someone from the past, and he decided to seek out this person for help in a world newly unfamiliar to him where Ares still intended to get the cure at all costs, and the existence of its past self caused more trouble than amnesia could erase.

Tekuka initially seems devoid of a personality of his own, instead first coming across as vacant and fretful. This gets worse when it is forcefully hospitalized so the cure inside him could be extracted; in this environment, Tekuka had the tendency to become overwhelmed, strike others, and accidentally hurt others without realizing the effects of his enhanced strength. In the future, Tekuka would continue to feel this sense of helplessness, but would begin to direct it inwardly and shut out the world during these moments.

Once Tekuka is out of the hospital and has the chance to feel a sense of security, it became much more gentle, still retaining his absentminded demeanor, but being able to appreciate the sense of calm that he never had before. At this point, Tekuka becomes understanding and supportive, and seems to approach difficult situations with a level of insight that greatly outweighs the disadvantage its lack of memories would suggest. There is still somewhat of a fretful nature present in Tekuka, but that fretfulness relates more to regret over the past than fear for the future.

He has a power outlet on his neck, a feature which Kai lacked. His hair is long, loose, and a pale ashen gray color, with tufted layers on the sides of its head. It has many wounds and stitches on his abdomen, which bleed sky blue blood when they are carelessly reopened. Tekuka wears a grayish green cardigan, tight ivory pants, and purple dress shoes.

Initially, Tekuka's initial reaction to anything unfamiliar was either ambivalence or distrust. In the early stages of his new life, there wasn't time to find things that it could like, but he was certainly presented with a lot of pain, confusion, and distress. Due to this, Tekuka's intial demeanor was withdrawn and nervous, and while he would occasionally become blinded with distress and lash out at his environment to stop the pain, it mostly would quietly and fearfully wait for Ares staff to extract the cure.

When Tekuka was free from the hospital, he was able to experience the world outside of Ares' tests, and so he picked up interests in seeing the sunrise (the last thing he wanted before Kai died) and clouds. The latter would become an intense interest, and Tekuka would go on to learn all that it could about clouds. More importantly than the subject manner was how he used it to relate to the world, likenening being overwhelmed with a cumulonimbus cloud that needs to release its rain, as well as using clouds as a metaphor to communicate ideas to others. It also helps Tekuka understand Kori better, as its interest of clouds manifests in a very similar manner to Kori's interest in technology.

Tekuka also found things it likes that aren't as strong of an interest as clouds, such as going on walks in the morning, taking care of a toy border collie named Zuno that Goodwin Arcana used to have in her home, and making new friends. While Tekuka used to draw while in the hospital (drawing one line when he was content and erasing one when it was upset, so he wouldn't forget how he was feeling), he started drawing for the sake of drawing rather than to keep track of its memories.

Strengths
  • Enhanced physical strength.
  • Does not need to sleep, so he can avoid losing time due to sleeping. He still plugs into an outlet for a while, but it is awake and aware the whole time.
  • Good at comforting others, and able to figure out what actions to take to help with remarkable empathy and understanding.
  • Tends to see through lies well.
  • Highly loyal and trustworthy, and will keep a promise no matter what. Tekuka would never consider betraying those it cares about.
  • Can see through plans until the end.
  • Easy to repair.
Weaknesses
  • Easily harmed by cold or wet environments.
  • Treats itself as expendable.
  • Becomes incredibly weak and overwhelmed if not charged.
  • Reacts in frustration when others compare him to Kai.
  • Is often aware when others overlook its capabilities.
  • Amnesia is mostly retrograde, but can also have traits of anterograde amnesia at times, due to the way his hard drive stores its memories.
  • Can't sleep, so anesthetic or inducing unconsciousness leaves him in almost a sleep paralysis state, where it is aware but unable to react, and sedatives leave it disoriented and lethargic, but unable to sleep off the drugs.

Tekuka has a few traits that distinguish it from his former self physically. These both help and hinder Tekuka, but as they are a result of his revival process, Tekuka has learned to accept the ramifications ofthese changes.

Enhanced Strength  Tekuka's strength was enhanced when his body was rebuilt as a cyborg. Due to this, Tekuka is able to carry other people without strain, and larger objects such as vehicles are more difficult but still managable to life for short periods of time. Unfortunately, it underestimates his strength, and sometimes hurts others unintentionally with this strength.

Curian Energy  Tekuka's power system is powered by energy from the land of Curiah, a world that uses energy to revive, restore, and reincarnate life. This energy is the reason that Tekuka is able to remain alive after being rebuilt, and since it has an abundance of this energy, he can use it for limited potential outside its own body. One of these uses is as a cure for the toxin -- as the energy can force a new body to grow around a sickened one, it can purge the toxin from someone's body. This process creates a blue ring of light around Tekuka, reopens its wounds, and puts him into a near-death state, so it only uses this ability initially for those it cares about. He later uses this ability when Ares owner Soru Omoide orders it in the absence of light to illuminate the area, but whether Tekuka agreed due to his self-sacrificial nature or because he felt it had to follow Soru's orders is unclear. Although not related to his ability, it is worth noting that Tekuka was targeted by the Curian protector goddess Aven Shika for retrival and dismantling as the Curian energy it holds was stolen by Ares and Aven was tasked with bringing it back to Curiah.

Amnesia  Tekuka has amnesia as a result of the bargain a newly revived Kai made with Ares scientist Garu Orochi. It was induced through a memory hard drive device built by Ares, which has two main functions. First, it holds memories as data, storing them in the case that someone's mind can't retain memories on its own. Second, it can induce retrograde amnesia through a countdown period that depends on the frequency of the signal that initates it. Once that countdown runs out, the amnesia is permanent and old memories cannot be recovered, so Tekuka only has access to its memories of Marun Ookami, which were not successfully erased, although they were significantly deteriorated. This device, being a hasty build, is not efficient at allowing Tekuka easy access to its memories, so Tekuka's processing speed has been lowered as a result. A loading circle displays in Tekuka's eyes when he is trying to access memories.

AS AN EXPERIMENT

Experiment X62 was created by Ares as a 'clone soul' project, destined to be yet another failed experiment kept for medical testing. However, when the medical testing showed that X62 was able to store energy from the land of Curiah, it was transferred to Floor Nine, the technology testing team, until the energy could be repurposed.

KAI'S DEATH

X62 was named Kai Teiriku by the team lead Dexter, and the small team treated Kai as an equal to them. However, after months passed and he was found to have the cure to the toxin hiddin in him, Ares ordered Kai be 'reprogrammed', an invasive procedure into the mind that can alter or extract the very nature of a person. Kai had already been through this once, and he was terrified to go through it again. He confessed to Floor Nine team member Marun Ookami that he would rather die than be reprogrammed again while the two were on the way to watch the sunrise before work at Kai's request, and later that day, Kai stepped from the 50 story window ledge. He changed his mind about dying out of fear, but when Marun tried to lead him back inside, he refused to go in. Marun walked onto the ledge to reach Kai, but Kai pushed Marun back through the window, using the last of his strength and falling to his own death. He died on October 13th, 2025.

REVIVAL AND AMNESIA

Kai's body was retrieved and revived by the scientist and necromancer Garu Orochi on November 23rd, 2025. Kai resisted being brought back to life, not wanting to experience pain or his memories of it again, but he relented for a few requests. One of these was to have his memories erased, and Garu begrudgingly obliged. Kai's memories, as well as the other features that made him distinctly Kai, were erased with a memory erasing feature of a hard drive that would be implanted in his head. After extensive repair and rebuilding surgeries, the revived X62 emerged as what would later be known as Tekuka, devoid of all memories except those of Marun Ookami, a result of Kai's final unwillingness to let go this time.

FINDING MARUN

Tekuka, covered in stitches and unsure of why he was in the hospital, broke out of the building with his new strength. He blocked Kori Omoide on the sidewalk by mistake, and she tried to help him remember why he was there to no avail. He did, however, knock her coffee mug from her hand, although he didn't know why he did so, and apologized. He later found her again, reasoning that if he wasn't supposed to forget a friend and he kept thinking of her, she must be that friend. In some way he was correct -- Kori and Marun were the same person.

HOSPITALIZATION

The next time Tekuka saw Kori, it was when Kori was rotting away from the toxin, and Tekuka had been forcibly hospitalized by Ares so they could finally extract the cure. He was heavily sedated and restrained, as Ares staff saw his strength alone as a possible threat. Kori freed him from the restraints, but still in a strong daze, he attacked her when she called him Kai. When he realized that he wasn't simply gripping her jacket, but instead nearly broke her ribs and left a large bruise, he went into shock until he was restrained again. He promised then that he wouldn't hurt Marun again no matter what, something that he would later uphold even to his detriment. He also expressed that he didn't want to make new memories.

REVIVING ANOTHER LIFE

When Ares scientists and doctors failed to cure Kori of the toxin, Phecda Shioto brought Kori and Tekuka to the log house he owned in the woods. There, Kori was supposed to be laid to rest in a coffin, but Tekuka couldn't bear to see his friend die, so he summoned the energy in his body to force a new, repaired body to grow around Kori's deteriorated one. This process injured him greatly, but it was worth it for Kori to keep living in a working body. He would continue to do this whenever Kori deteriorated from the toxin, although he encouraged her not to keep drinking it. This repeated destruction of his own body to revive Kori might have been the start of his need to feel useful to others.

MORE THAN AN EXPERIMENT

After this event, Tekuka was able to start figuring out who he was besides an experiment. He took an interest in clouds -- its new favorite subject -- and started enjoying morning walks to see the sunrise. More importantly, Tekuka started finding out his values outside of the expectations Ares had for it, although a need to be useful and eventual survivor's guilt would restrict this to some degree when his companions were put in danger, and some of them killed, because a Curian deity returned for the energy he held inside him.

EMOTIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Tekuka, able to make decisions on its own, started serving as a patient and supportive person to those around him. While it took a while for others to realize that Tekuka was just as capable as they were to handle difficult situations, Tekuka was persistent in doing whatever he could to fix issues that arose, even if he looked misguided to others. Of course, it still got overwhelmed at times, but with support from Kori and an understanding of what was happening, Tekuka was able to manage it so he wouldn't feel hurt or regret afterward anymore.

LIFE AS A CYBORG

Tekuka's experiences without his old memories allowed it to see himself with more nuance than many of the citizens of Myrios, who distrusted the Ares cyborgs. While to some degree he saw itself as a tool, he also was able to give input on situations that someone without its experiences wouldn't have as much knowledge on. It was through this knowledge that Tekuka was able to help Kori make her decision of whether she would allow her memories to be erased based on her own feelings rather than the expectations of others. Tekuka also got better over time at recalling information from its memory hard drive, although he retained a bit of difficulty still, and he has come to terms with its amnesia.

RECONCILIATION

Eventually, Tekuka decided that he was ready to see Kai as a part of himself. Formerly wishing to have nothing to do with Kai, who only brought him pain and fear, he accepted that he was once Kai, and to some degree will always be the person Kai became.

TRIVIA
  • Tekuka was created in March 2015. Its design was mostly the same, except with bolder greens and brighter whites. He had a hoodie instead of a thinner sweater back then.
  • Tekuka's voice is breathy and somewhat spacey, while maintaining an overall monotone. He is the only one in the series who speaks with many ellipsis in his dialogue, as it pauses a lot while speaking due to his low processing speed and difficulty accessing data from the hard drive in its head.
  • Tekuka's name is a combination of parts of Kai's surname and first name. When Tekuka was revived, it saw his test chamber which originally read TEIRIKU, KAI. As some of the letters had faded, Tekuka saw only a few letters and assumed that whatever TE KU KA was, it must have been him.
  • Tekuka's favorite clouds are cumulus clouds.
  • Tekuka's memories are stored as image files, video files, and executable files. Recollections are usually the former two, while emotions are the latter. If someone hacks into Tekuka or plugs him into a computer with an adapter, they can access, delete, or run these files however they wish. Physical actions are also done this way, and this exploit was used by Sho when he hacked Tekuka and controlled his body.
  • If Tekuka gets a virus, it gets a fever. Whether this is from the computer parts overheating or the organic ones reacting is unknown. He can see any pop-ups in his field of vision.
  • Tekuka usually takes an approach to situations that might seem unusual, such as using its strength to get through a subway crowd, piling cars into a homemade collission to keep them from hitting someone on a crosswalk, or poisoning Kori to deteriorate her body when a memory hard drive was stuck in her head. Because of this, people don't often take Tekuka's solutions seriously, but they're rather effective.
  • Tekuka has a crush on Marun. He doesn't try to hide it, and Marun knows. They're kind of at a stalemate, as Marun is married, but in the end he, Tekuka, and Phecda all seem to work more as a group than a couple and the cyborg living in their house.
