Danae was the first and only trueborn child to Lucifer Hel and his wife Azriel Sun, and enjoyed all the perks of this. Growing up, until around the age of six, she was blissful and happy. Her mother was kind, warm and loving. She taught her daughter all that she could, and imprinted on Danae a fond memory. It was not until Sun's Lady-in-Waiting and handmaiden Nakia schemes led to the death of Sun that Danae knew what sorrow could truly be. Suddenly and inexplicably she was without her mother. Her grief was amplified when her father took Nakia as his wife, and soon she was with child. Naturally Danae tried to look on the bright side, she would get another sister - until now, her only other sister was her older bastard-born sister. However, it was soon apparent that Nakia had no interest in Danae, and would try to make the heir-apparent look bad in order to favour her own daughter Darielle.

Another nine years passed before Lucifer, the king of Hel and Danae's father, passed away with Nakia. This cast all three daughters of Lucifer into the roles they had been primed for perhaps sooner than anyone would have thought. Danae, aged 15, was crowned Queen. Though more than ready, she had insecurities. Her 9 years old sister Darielle was always at her heels, wanting to trip her up. She'd soaked in much of her mother's ambitions. Thankfully, Daemona - the eldest - was firmly on Danae's side and kept her steady. Danae grew sickly and weak, which lead to Daemona taking up the role as Realm Regent while the young queen was sent to the Overworld where she could hopefully recover. It was here, due to mental illness, physical illness, and a great sorrow over her younger sister's vice, that she considered not returning at all, or simply let it go as it would and rahter just be free of the world and weight of the crown. However, she learned that this was not an option. As years passed by, a young Darielle - aided by her uncles - schemed with other high ranking nobility to overthrow the missing queen, spreading rumours and lies in order to sow distrust between Danae and her court.

It was Daemona who kept the loyal members of court together, but she was much relieved when a much healthier Danae returned to Helheim and court once more. She had at this point accepted the weight of her crown, that it was what her parents had prepared her for. She was set on becoming a force to be reckoned with and feared. At court, she dealt with politics, trusting only a select few - such as her older sister, her two retainers, and her lover. Between the five of them, they managed to calm the kingdom and cement the loyalties of the lords and ladies. - just in time too, as a neighbouring kingdom was in more despair than ever before. The ruler, Master Jake, had killed his wife, brainwashed his eldest daughter and now ruled the Capital Realm of the Underworld like a dictator. Only a few of the realms of the Underworld were left independent and out of reach, Helheim and Niflgaard specifically. One a cold, frozen mountain range nearly impossible to hold against the wishes of the natives, the other a realm of powerful creatures - a realm that had never been successfully invaded. Refugees arrived in Helheim, among which was the brothers of her lover. The brothers, all exile princes of the lost dragon empire, used Helheim as a base of operations from which they could safely plan a way to overthrow Master. Danae not only approved of this, but swore to help them in any way she could. Despite having been visited by ambassadors from Master urging her to stay out of Underworld business. She would not let her friend be used by her father, and would not abandon the brothers of her beloved to have no safe place (however much they still snuck into the capital realm of the Underworld to gather intel).
