Tales of Symphonia OST
Isla is a mermaid who cannot sing. In a land where merfolk's voices have magical properties, her inability to sing not only makes her stand out from her peers, but makes her feel inadequate, too. Insecure and quiet, she spends most of her time in the familiarity of the sea. Despite this, she secretly yearns for adventure thanks to her curious nature.
While she is terrified of pretty much everything on the surface, Isla's skittishness is less present underwater. The sea is her home, even if it is fraught with its own dangers.

Isla is shy and reclusive. She startles easy and is scared of her own shadow. If you were to ask her to do something she's never done before, there's a very good chance she would burst into tears. However, she has a strong will and unyielding curiosity, so she tries to challenge herself despite her fears.
She has a strong desire to be useful and always puts others before herself, to the point it could be considered self-destructive. While she is naturally wary of others, she wants to like them, so she is quick to warm up to people. She is also desperate to be liked herself.
Isla is a small mermaid with long, turquoise hair that covers half of her face and is tied up in a ponytail. She has a short snout that is usually only visible in profile view. She has long, slightly floppy ears on the sides of her head.
The scales on her tail shimmer like a fish's and have a gradient, from blue to green. She tends to have a slightly hunched posture on land due to her nervousness, but relaxes underwater.- Her hair always covers one eye.

Isla grew up in the underwater city of the merfolk in Edo'namel. Born without the singing voice the merfolk are known for, she was shunned by her peers for much of her childhood. She saw herself as a disgrace, but her parents did not. They encouraged her to find other ways to use her voice, believing it still possessed magical properties. Thanks to their direction she learned she could still use magic by chanting; though slower and not as effective as singing, it worked, and this gave Isla a little confidence boost that she desperately needed..
Merfolk are encouraged to visit the world on the surface to mingle with the land folk of Edo'namel. Isla could not bring herself to join her parents in their trips to the surface, terrified of the unfamiliarity. The most she managed to do was sit atop the rocks in the sea to watch the port town of Pilt, intrigued by the fisherman and the boats that passed her home. She liked to relax there; it was a refuge from the suffocating expectations of the world underwater. Though she was intensely curious about the surface, for a long time she ignored her wanderlust, too intimidated by what lay beyond the comforting view of Pilt.
One day when Isla was watching the port town, she was startled by a single strange lightning bolt snaking through the sky. It unsettled her; it wasn't every day a bolt of lightning would strike so close to home, and she couldn't help thinking that it meant something. Before she could stop herself she was swimming towards where the lightning struck.
She had been given the push she needed and forced herself onwards, her trail leading her to a volcano where she met two land dwellers, the escaped prisoner Renegade and the enigmatic Bast. The three of them, each with their own agenda, have agreed to investigate the volcano, wary of the beast lurking within.

Renegade was the first land dweller Isla met when she finally ventured to the surface on her own, and the two of them were quickly entangled in the strange happenings of Edo'namel. Being a pirate, Isla is a litle intimidated by Renegade, but finds her charming and friendly enough, and relies on her to guide her through the world above water. Whether this is smart or not remains to be seen.

Bast accompanied both Isla and Renegade on their travels through Edo'namel, even venturing into a sweltering volcano with them. For that, she quickly gained Isla's trust, despite being just as shrouded in mystery as Renegade. Isla wonders about Bast's origin and that strange mirror that hovers around her, but has yet to ask about it.
