Design notes

  • Face scar doesn't have to be super exact, just take an educated guess at the shape
  • Physically cannot cry
  • Cloak can be added to armor design because it looks freakin' awesome and I'm willing to sacrifice practicality for that
  • Chip missing from his right eyebrow where his scar reaches
  • Can be drawn in other outfits/accessories as long as it's in character (and setting). Do not change his physical attributes
  • Eyes are dull and foggy from lack of moisture, they don't reflect as starkly as an average eye.
  • Aaron can only be drawn with past version
  • David can only be drawn with past version
  • If you are going to draw him with other characters, I prefer they are present in the same world as him (check the Broken Crown folder for more, or the relationships at the bottom of this page) if you'd like to do a crossover please ask.
Description

Physical Description

a 5’11” 21-25 (age varies throughout story) year old man with fairly long blonde hair (length varies throughout story) pulled into a low ponytail at the back, three strands (one in front and two off to the side) are usually lose though. He has burn scars around his blue eyes and several scars on his torso including a slash accross his chest, and a stab mark on his shoulder and above his hip. He can partially see out of his left eye, but it's extremely blurry and obstructed, his right eye is completely non-functional. He usually wears a casual outfit, but in the past (pre-blinded) or for special occasions he wears more formal attire. He wields his father’s dark-bladed sword which he received after his death.

Personality Description

Soft-spoken and polite, Henry is quiote non-confrontational. He prefers to quietly observe situations before making decisions and isn't one for impulsivity. He doesn't really care if people treat him poorly, but if anyone were to threaten someone he is close to he won't hesitate to defend them. He's quite empathetic and can't stand seeing or causing suffering, always doing whatever he can to avoid violence. He can get easily overwhelmed but has gotten good at hiding the fact, if only at face value. He can often space out deep in thought and lose track of time, but he does his best to be responsible.

Past

TLDR: Somewhat raised as royalty, has boyfriend named Aaron, works for the king and hates it.

Henry was born to David and Orchid Godfrey when they were in their 20s. His mother, Orchid, left the family when Henry was 5, he has very few memories of her. His father, David, worked as the king (his twin brother)'s second in command. The position left him constantly stressed and distant. He was extremely neglectful to Henry, who despite David's many flaws, always tried to assume the best in him.

Henry showed skill in swordsmanship from a young age and this gained the attention of his uncle, Vi. When he became better than David, Vi began training him himself, which was an extremely unpleasant experience for Henry.

Henry would have had a completely miserable childhood were it not for his best friend, Aaron. He worked at the castle Henry would spend most of his time in (while Vi lived in the castle, David and Henry lived in a house near it, but both would have to spend most of their day there). Aaron always stood by Henry and helped him make more meaningful connections in his life. The two were always inseparable and eventually realized (when they were around 16) their feelings for each other weren't platonic. They became a couple to the disapproval of David, but Vi didn't mind, Aaron made good leverage to use keep Henry under his thumb.

When Henry was 19, his father died. He was never told exactly how or why but strongly suspects it was Vi, who wanted a more competent second in command and had become quite fed up with David. Henry was appointed as Vi's new second and took over his father's duties.

Present (Main Plot)

TLDR: Henry is blinded, Aaron dies, Fortuna and Henry become a couple, Henry kills Vi and ends the war

Henry hated working for Vi. A lot of the things he did went against his morals and Vi is a generally terrifying person to be around and constant source of stress. He was forced to adopt a heartless persona and pushed away his friends in an attempt to "protect them." Vi always threatened Aaron when Henry wasn't acting satisfactory and he didn't want anyone else to be in danger because of him. He felt completely trapped, he couldn't flee to the other side of the country they were at war with, they would execute him due to how closely he worked with Vi. Like old times, Aaron was the only one he could depend on, the only source of comfort during some of the worst years of Henry's life.

Henry saw his opportunity to escape when Fortuna was captured by Vi's soldiers. She held a high rank in the East's military, Henry hoped if he freed her and returned to the East alongside her, she could vouch for his character and they wouldn't instantly kill him for his involvement with their enemy. He made a deal with her and he and Aaron made plans to leave.

The plan went more wrong than Henry could ever have imagined. Henry was confronted by Vi by the palace forge while leaving, leading to a fight between the two. Vi blinded him with the burning-hot embers of the forge and he blacked out from the pain. Aaron came to Henry's defense and was killed in the ensuing fight with Vi.

Fortuna took him the rest of the way to the East, bringing him to Patientia, the military capital. It was there he was informed of Aaron's death. Devastated and grief-stricken he numbly continued with life. Fortuna supported him through it all and the two became close. She was appoined as a messenger after about a year in Patientia, she invited Henry to travel with her for her new position and he accepted. They found they enjoyed being around each other after a while and became a couple.

They would've been happy to continue life like that, but the end of the war was on the horizon and it wasn't looking good for the East. In a last ditch effort for victory, Henry reluctantly challenged Vi to a duel, the victor of which would decide the outcome of the war. Though he was severely injured during the fight, Henry managed to kill Vi and survive. He was briefly king while the end of the war was negotiated and leadership of the country was transferred to the East. When it was all said and done, Henry proposed to Fortuna, looking forward to a life without conflict looming over their shoulders.

Future
After marrying Fortuna, Henry moved to her hometown with her where she had recently been appointed as Governess as thanks for their help in ending the war. The two live there together for many years. They later have a son, whom they name Aaron. While Henry still struggles with hard memories from his past, he is happy and content in this life.
