Drawing Notes

  • Tired-looking baggy eyes with low-resting eyelids
  • Not an entirely necessary detail, but his hair usually curls around his ears like in the ref, also his hair style is always the same slicked back and loose unless under very exceptional circumstances.
  • Ambidextrous, but favors his right hand due to having an injured left arm (his left does not function as well, he prefers not to use it)
  • Crown is optional, he could take it or leave it. Dagger and sword are also optional it's ok if you just don't feel like drawing it (I know I hardly ever do).
  • Gloves can be added to the non-armor outfit, he usually prefers to have as much skin covered as possible.
  • Cloak can be added to armor design because it looks awesome and I'm willing to sacrifice practicality for that.
  • Thin build
  • Angular face with a long nose and visible cheek bones
  • You may change his outfit however you want, in fact I encourage it, my characters aren't glued to any one outfit. Just try to keep it in character and don't change any of his physical attributes.
  • "Vi" is pronounce "vee"
  • If you are going to draw him with other characters, I prefer they are present in the same world as him (check the Broken Crown folder for more). If you want to do a crossover or something please ask first
Description

Physical Description

Vi is a 40-45 year old man, he is tall and thin with excellent posture. He has an angular face with sharp features, a long nose, visible cheek bones, and prominent eye bags. He usually wears several layers of clothing and gloves often. One of his most striking features is his eyes, he has blue/brown heterochromia and isn't particularly proud of the fact, but it's not something that can be easily hidden so he doesn't do anything about it. Vi has dark brown slightly wavy hair that comes down to his chin which he typically keeps slicked back and loose. His pale skin is covered in lots of small scars and some bigger ones, but none on his face. He has several deeper scars on his left arm, one on his shoulder where he was impaled with Aaron's spear (the reason for his lack of function in the arm), the scar is visible on both sides of his arm. He also has burns on his right hand from when he blinded Henry.

Personality Description

Vi is a very analytical person. He is calm and observant, it’s difficult to get an emotional reaction out of him, but if successful his usually good judgement tends to become extremely clouded by his personal feelings. He is always looking for the best way to use what resources he has to his advantage (including people). He can usually read people well, typically knowing how someone is feeling (but rarely acting on it unless it benefits him). He has little patience for frivolous people or activities, and is happiest when he’s busy. He gets along best with those who have proven to him that they are capable, intelligent, and loyal. He gets frustrated when his plans are disrupted, especially if he regards it as the fault of another. Vi has insomnia, constantly burning the candle at both ends, this (and his love for alcohol) can often affect his mood and judgement.

Past

TLDR: Raised very strictly, became king at 18, was responsible for starting a civil war at 25

Vi was born as eldest (living) son of King Vian Godfrey I of Elsmir, a status that would follow him throughout his entire life. Although a twin, he was the only one recognized as a suitable heir. His slightly younger brother David went largely unnoticed, and was often badmouthed by their father for being useless, something Vi internalized.

His mother died when he was born, and his father never remarried. Vi spent the vast majority of his childhood under the cruel and perfectionistic hand of his father. Steep expectations with even steeper punishments for not meeting them. Most of the scars scattered around his body came from growing up.

Vi was appointed as his father's Second (position of advisor to the king and often next in line for the throne) at 17, and was shortly after forced to marry a woman named Violet, with whom he would have two sons. His father mysteriously became ill and died when Vi was 18, which he later discovered was the doing of his sister Rose. He appointed David as his Second despite his negative feelings about him. While life was better without the presence of Vian I, Vi spent most of his time as a newly-crowned king in numb misery trying to keep far too many responsibilities under control.

Vi wasn't the only one who disliked his father. Rumors of violently appointing new leaders were prominent, particularly in Eastern Elsmir. The Easterners believed that the descendants of the people that ruled Elsmir centuries prior should take the throne once more. Vi had been aware of them before he became king, but they seemed louder after he took the throne. They thought him weak, that the crown was now vulnerable and the time to strike was now. When Vi was 25, he decided to act first. He burned down the home of the Grace family (one of the families that loudly desired the throne citing their ancestors), killing most of them, and began hunting the other bloodlines that threatened the throne. This act was the final straw that sparked the Civil War between Eastern and Western Elsmir. If you asked Vi, the war started far before then.

Present (main plot)

TLDR: Vi blinds Henry and kills Aaron, is later killed by Henry in a royal duel to determine the outcome of the war.

The war ended up lasting nearly 2 decades. During that time, David (who seemed to test Vi's patience more and more every year) had a son named Henry. Vi discovered the child was quite smart, and very good with a blade. He reminded Vi of himself in many ways, and was much more capable than Vi's own children (one of which died, and the other ran away with Vi's wife and Rose, never to be seen again by Vi). Vi kept an eye on Henry until he determined the boy was capable of replacing his father as Second. When Henry was 19, Vi killed David, replacing the position of Second with his son.

Henry followed Vi for the next 2 years, easily being more competent than David. There were a few bumps in the road, Henry often appearing reluctant to carry out some of Vi's more violent orders, but Vi didn't think much of it. He didn't think enough of it, and he will always curse himself for not noticing earlier. Henry revealed himself as a traitor when he tried to join the East with his boyfriend Aaron by freeing the prisoner Fortuna.

Vi confronted Henry before he could get away, the argument ending in a fight. While Henry was a better fighter than Vi, Vi managed to get the upper hand when he blinded Henry by shoving hot coals against his face and eyes. Vi burned his own hand in the process. Before Vi had much time to decide what to do next, Aaron attacked Vi in defense of Henry. Aaron stabbed Vi's arm with his spear and would have killed him if Vi wasn't able to distract him enough to kill him with his own weapon. Fortuna still escaped with Henry, but Vi knew he hadn't gotten away without a cost.

The next 4 years passed rather dully. Vi appointed Scarlet as his new Second and continued on with the war and country management as normal. He spent a few months enjoying the company of a would-be assassin Elian before pushing him away. Then the East made an out of the ordinary move, they championed Henry to duel Vi, the victor gaining the surrender of the opposing side in the war. Vi found this curious, but was fed up enough with the war, and life in general, that he accepted. Henry emerged victorious, killing Vi and ending the Elsmirian Civil War.
