This is the AU where he moves to New York City! Although at heart he's still an impulsive and self-centered jerk, since moving to America he's fallen into a role of responsibility, working to get him and his husband, Pavel, citizenship and fulfill their dreams of running a tattoo shop. He tries to not form attachments to anyone, and only really talks to Pavel.

Story
BackstoryDespite Pavel's plans to leave after graduation, Petya convinced him to enroll in an American high school instead, so they moved at the start of January instead of late June. Once in New York City (Brooklyn to be exact), they found a small apartment with a landlord who didn't ask questions, and began their new lives. Petya got a job moving boxes in a warehosue, and also helped revive the pair's tattoo business, using the rich prep kids eager to rebel against their parents but not *quite* old enough to get a legal tattoo as their client base. He and Pavel were married soon after they arrived in the city in order to apply for refugee status (and also for love) in a small courthouse ceremony. Once out of school, the two pursue apprenticeships with tattoo parlours, and eventually open their own shop.
Top5!A teen boy band along the lines of One Direction! On their first night in America while flipping through channels on the TV in their motel, Pavel found a talk show that was hosting a musical group called Top5!. The teen boy band captivated both his and Petya's attention, and they became fast fans, binge listening to every album within their first week in the city. They managed to scrape together enough money to see them live (granted, from the worst seats in the house), fulfilling Pavel's dream of seeing a big stadium concert. Since then, Top5!'s music has become a big part of their relationship.

HusbandLiving together has brought a multitude of new challenges, but the two are still close as ever. Moving halfway across the world to get hitched was an insane plan, but both are so happy they went through with it before it was too late. Their shared history made for a ton of inside jokes, which combined with the two of them being the only fluent Russian speakers at their school means they can talk about whatever they want in public without people listening in.
