Profile

Name: Loralei

Gender: Female

Species: False-Wyvern

Age: 3.5 Years (adult)

Height: 14+ ft

Sexuality: Pansexual/Monogamous

Rank: Common outsider

Traits: Common: Black wings, black tail scales, black horns, black chest fluff

Theme Song: Melodies

Personality: Loralei is unusually kind for her species. She's generous and loving and caring, and just an all-around nice wyvern! She doesn't have much of a temper, and hates hurting others, but she can often fall into a depressive state if her enthusiasm isn't reciprocated. As she tries to cheer up just about everyone, Loralei becomes sad if she can't, and extremely distressed if she feels that someone hates her. This need for others to like her can make Loralei seem overbearing or fussy. Loralei is also quite disorganized, as seen by the paint that often sullies her fur, but uncleanliness isn't usually uncommon for the more common false-wyverns. Loralei's constant optimism and enthusiasm, as well as her gentle nature, can make her seem foolish to other false-wyverns, but she's trying her best! Seeing as false-wyverns are usually characterized as savage beasts that want nothing more than to kill, Loralei is a definite outlier. She was born in a Hive, but given away soon after her birth for unknown reasons. She was secretly picked up by Fern, and was raised alongside two other false-wyverns in a village. Although her brothers soon fell into personalities much more befitting of their species, Loralei never grew out of her kind and playful disposition. She loves her mother, and would never leave her. Even after visiting the main Hive numerous times, Loralei still wants to stay with her mother Fern.

Abilities:

Dark/Chaos Magic: One might expect Loralei to have a type of magic more befitting for her kind personality, such as nature or water magic. Nevermind the harmful things that those two magics can do, for Loralei is the best at dark and chaos magic! She can manipulate the shadows and blend into them quite easily, when she often uses for sneaking around and escaping. She can also  create four tendrils of pure dark magic that extend out of her back, and can use them at will. These tendrils would usually be for stabbing and slashing at enemies before they can get too close, but Loralei prefers to use them for painting! When you don't have any arms, you'll have to take what you can get in terms of limbs that can hold things when you want to be an artist. Loralei can also levitate objects using this magic (though it does seem to give them a taint afterwards), telekinetically make others feel pain without touching them, and shoot a ball of pure concentrated chaos magic out of her mouth much like a fireball. Because she is strongest in dark/chaos magic, the latent ability of her kind that drains the life of surrounding plants and animals is stronger than the average wyvern, which Loralei doesn't like very much.

Luck: Or, a lack of it to be precise! But it's not Loralei that's affected, no, rather everyone around her. When Loralei becomes distressed or sad, or angry at others (which usually never happens), they will be plagued with bad luck for however long Loralei is mad at them. The severity of their plight depends on how strongly Loralei feels about them. When it is just a general mood of distress, everyone around Loralei (even those she loves) will be affected, but to a much lesser extent.

Mimicry/Soul Eating: Like the ability to drain life from their surroundings, all false-wyverns possess these abilities. Loralei can mimic other voices and sounds for about an hour before her voice gives out. She does not use this ability to lure others in for the kill, no, rather she uses it as a way to comfort them. If someone she loves is having a bad day, Loralei might sing them their favorite song, or say comforting words to them in the voice of someone they love. She mostly uses it to lull those who have trouble sleeping into a sense of security so that they may rest, but she has also found out that children think it's funny when she mimics animals and funny voices! So, she also uses it to entertain others, since Loralei doesn’t mind it when children climb all over her due to her being so fluffy and funny. Loralei, like all other false-wyverns, also must eat souls to survive. She hates this, and only eats the bare minimum to remain healthy, approximately two to three each week. Luckily, most souls that Loralei finds are damned and corrupted, due to the fact that she lives by a rather dangerous forest. So, it’s less taxing emotionally to eat these souls, since Loralei can convince herself that “they deserve it” and “they’ll reincarnate one day”. Of course, eating only corrupted souls does make false-wyverns little stinkers, but Loralei’s natural kindness is usually enough to balance it out. If it’s not, nothing bad ever comes of it anyways, as she’ll only partake in a few good-natured, safe yet hilariously inconvenient pranks.

Strength: Loralei is unusually big for a false-wyvern! The average false-wyvern gets to about 12ft in size, but Loralei is 14ft and counting! Her horns are also very big, as they grow pretty fast, she she files them down to stumps quite often. Thus, Loralei is very strong. If she ever needs to defend herself, a quick smack with her tail will usually do it. But if worst comes to worst and words simply can’t resolve conflict, Loralei can and will defend herself as non-lethally as possible.

Hobbies/Interests:

Art: Loralei is an artist at heart! She loves painting, and although she doesn’t exactly have hands, she has gotten quite good at drawing using her mouth and wing claws to hold the various tools needed. Along with the shadow tendrils that extend from her back, of course. Loralei has been drawing ever since she was a hatchling, so she's gotten quite good at it despite the hinderance! She most enjoys drawing Royal false wyverns like Joey, as she absolutely adores them. If she gets the chance, she will attempt to gift her drawings to the respective wyverns portrayed in them, and an enthusiastic reception just makes her day all the brighter! She paints her scales in a variety of colors, and uses contact lenses to color her eyes. Her fur often has paint splatters everywhere, and it was such a pain to wash them off every time she got dirty, so Loralei just considers the mess part of her “look”. Her favorite colors are blue, purple, and red, but she loves painting with blue and gray since they are very versatile colors.

Relationships:

Fern: Fern is Loralei's mom, and the one she loves most. Although Fern might seem like a grumpy, antisocial alchemist who doesn't like anybody, she is actually very caring. Fern adopted Loralei and her brothers, Darius and Balthazar, when they were just hatchlings. Loralei has always enjoyed life with her mom, even if they did have rough patches at times. She appreciates all that Fern has done for them, as the fox received plenty of scorn when she first brought false-wyverns into the village that they lived in, since false-wyverns were seen as taboo and scary since they weren't a common occurrence yet. Loralei isn't a violent wyvern, but she would literally kill to protect her momma. Loralei would NEVER abandon her mother, even if it meant losing her life and everything else that she loves.

Blue: Although very few know it, Blue actually helped Fern take care of Loralei and her brothers! Loralei doesn't exactly see him as a dad, as he and Fern were never romantically involved, rather a close family friend. Okay, maybe a lesser dad, even though Loralei doesn't have a figure in her life that she actually considers her "dad". That's all there really is to say, Loralei likes Blue and is glad that he helped Fern take care of her! Loralei is always happy when people help her mom.

Rain: Rain is Loralei's leader! Though false-wyverns usually live in a Hive, and thus consider their respective Royals and Queens their rulers, Loralei lives in a village not connected to a Hive. Loralei is an outsider, a rogue wyvern, and thus she listens to a different wyvern. Loralei doesn't really see a lot of Rain, since the dragon is always so busy doing leader things, but Loralei is glad that Rain allowed false-wyverns in her village nonetheless! She sometimes draws Rain. and gifts the dragon her drawings, which Rain always gladly thanks her for.

Joey: Loralei thinks that Joey is pretty cool. The Heiress visited Loralei and her brothers when they were young, and Loralei was in awe upon seeing the Heiress. She was just so regal! Of course, Loralei has only seen Joey a few times, and most of those times never resulted in Loralei actually talking to Joey. Still, Joey is "100% pure coolness" in Loralei's book.

Darius/Balthazar: Loralei isn't related to Darius or Balthazar by blood, but she still loves them! Sure, Darius is narcissistic and greedy and always thinks he's the best no matter what, and Balthazar hates everything and only wants to fight, but Loralei loves them nonetheless. Of course, as siblings, they've fought a lot. Loralei always won though! She is a pretty big wyvern after all. Loralei is slightly mad at her brothers for leaving home without even saying goodbye and making Fern sad, but she can forgive them. It does make family gatherings a bit awkward when they do actually show up though.

Crushes~: Loralei gets crushes often, and appears to be a hopeless romantic, so it's not surprising that she has crushes on both false-wyvern and non-wyvern alike.

Neon Skelebat: He's just... so... bright! And colorful! And he's also a bat, which is always a plus in Loralei's opinion! Loralei doesn't know his name, but this hasn't stopped her from gazing longingly at the eyeburning mess as he goes about his daily routine. He hasn't seemed to notice her yet.

Yeliss: Yeliss is absolutely awesome. She can create lightning out of thin air! She's so good at summoning lightning, that just one night of her working can supply a whole entire village with power for weeks! That is absolutely godlike, or at least Loralei thinks so. Loralei always becomes a bit sad whenever she thinks about Yeliss, since she doesn't think that the serpent will ever notice her. But she does look like she would give really nice hugs! Loralei wouldn't mind hugging Yeliss by curling her neck around the blue serpent, even if it does cause all of her fur to poof up thanks to the electricity.

Gator Teeth: Honestly, Gator Teeth is badass. He takes crap from nobody! Unfortunately, he doesn't seem to like Loralei very much. Actually, he doesn't seem to like anybody. He also doesn't have any wings and is prone to biting with his *four* mouthes, which is a bit of a downside. That won't stop Loralei from crushing on him though!

Ulysses: You can't go wrong with a dragon/wolf combination! Unlike the Skelebat, Loralei actually knows this handsome fellow's name! It's Ulysses. But, much like the Skelebat, she doesn't know much about him. He does look pretty strong though!

*Loralei is always up to adding another crush to her list*

Backstory:

Puphood: Loralei is one of the only remaining children of Derrick, one of Joey's mates. As it turns out, Joey has horrible parental instincts (or perhaps none at all) and often hurts or even kills her hatchlings, unintentionally and not. So, Derrick, wanting to save one of the bigger pups, decided to give Loralei away. She was still unnamed at that time, as getting attached to your baby is not recommended if you're planning to give it away. Derrick entrusted Loralei to Snowpuff, who had been giving pups away to others in secret. That was the last time Derrick thought he would see his child, unknowing if she would go to a good family or not. Luckily, she did. Fern and Blue met up with Snowpuff, and Fern ended up adopting Loralei. Soon after she picked up Darius and then Balthazar, so Loralei would not be raised alone. From early on Loralei was an enthusiastic and loving pup. Her wariness at her new home and new siblings quickly wore off, and she was bouncing off the walls and cuddling with anyone that got too close.  One day, while Fern was trying to figure out what the pups liked, Loralei accidentally spilled a can of paint. To Fern's simultaneous glee and dismay, the little false-wyvern had soon smeared it all across the walls and floor in abject happiness. Fern gave Loralei some colorful (washable) paints, and Loralei fell in lorve with the art of art. Although she loved her brothers and Blue, Loralei was always closest with Fern.

1.5: Loralei has reached sexual maturity and is much bigger. She had learned that her weight can hurt others, and is now always careful around her more fragile peers. She has also started breaking off and filing down her horns, after almost accidentally poking Fern's eye out. Loralei is too big to live in Fern's house now, so she lives in a section of the forest closest to Fern's abode. She can often be seen perching on top of Fern's house, as she was bit too stubborn to leave completely. Slowly but surely, Loralei and her brothers are being exposed to the wonders and terrors of the Hive, with some help from Rain and Joey. Loralei doesn't like the Hive much, but Darius and Balthazar are much more enthusiastic. Mostly because the Hive represents their respective desires most; being treated like royalty and fighting. Loralei met Derrick for the first time, or so she thinks, to give him a drawing. He was enthralled to receive it from such a passionate and happy young wyvern, but they soon went on their separate ways. They did not recognize each other, and likely never would.

3.5 (Current): With each visit to a Hive, Loralei is courted by other wyverns, due to her impressive body and horn size. She has started to think of others romantically, but hasn't found a suitable mate yet. Darius and Balthazar have long since left the house by now, leaving only Loralei behind to care for Fern.

Adult: Loralei is what we would consider a fine young adult. She never left Fern's side, even as she grew older. Of course, this utter devotion to her adoptive mother has severed quite a few relationships with Hive-aligned false-wyverns, relationships that could have gone somewhere, but Loralei doesn't care. She loves her mother more than anyone else. This refusal to leave Fern's side is starting to worry the fox. What happens when Fern dies? If Loralei doesn't learn to be independent, doesn't learn that she can live without her mother, then life after Fern's passing might be disastrous for her. Fern has voiced these concerns to Loralei in an attempt to get her to start "leaving the nest", as some would put it, but Loralei isn't having any of it. It's as if the false-wyvern is denying the very truth of life itself-- that Fern is mortal, and all mortals die someday.

Getting Older: Fern is small for a fennec fox. Too small. The dwarfism that has affected her since birth is starting to take its toll. The fox was never supposed to live long; although the village she lives in has a special power to make all villagers live much longer than usual, it does next to nothing for terminal diseases. Not to mention, Loralei's life-draining capabilities combines with a refusal to leave Fern's side haven't helped. Fern is weakening, and weakening fast. Loralei is distraught and panicked, trying everything from natural herbs, healing potions, and dragon's blood to save her poor mother. Whereas before Loralei only lived in the same village as Fern, now she is never seen apart from Fern's side. Fern isn't getting much better, if at all.

Loss: Fern is dead. A brilliant alchemist, her concoctions were enough to stave off death for a while, but nothing lasts forever. The fox was buried in the backyard of her home. All of Fern's various supplies, potions, and recipes went to her multiple apprentices and colleagues, but her house and prized coat and goggles went only to Loralei. The false wyvern disappeared for a month after Fern's death.

Rejuvenation: Contrary to popular belief, Loralei was not dead. After disappearing for a long time, Loralei resurfaced, determined to live life to the fullest. She would be mourning Fern's death for years to come, but she would at least try to carry out Fern's final wish to her; for Loralei to be happy, no matter what. She has started visiting Hives more often, and interacting with others in an attempt to create deep bonds more frequently. She has also started trying to reconnect with her estranged brothers, but so far is only having luck with Balthazar, which is surprising to her.

The War: Decades of fighting and hate will change you. Balthazar's only wish was to be remembered, to earn his name among his peers. But to them, he was just another common, of average fighting ability, trying fruitlessly to gain fame. Sightmare had been meeting with Balthazar in secret, warping the wyvern's mind and reducing him to a husk of loathing and bloodlust and endless greed. Balthazar considered Sightmare his dad, and the only person that had ever loved him, when that was simply not the case. Balthazar had been manipulated, broken beyond repair. Perhaps he knew this. But he did not care. Balthazar, after convincing Loralei that he still thought of her as his sister, kidnapped her. It was all part of Sightmare's plan. Loralei was to be made into an example, publicly executed as a declaration of war. She was Fern’s child, and Fern was one of Rain’s closest friends. Loralei pleaded with Balthazar, but he just blocked out her cries. She meant nothing to him. However, after some struggling and acidic spit, Loralei managed to break free from her binds and chains. She fled back home, quickly warning Rain of the imminent threat. The war started soon after, and Loralei fought valiantly in the memory of her mother. No matter what, she wouldn’t stay down for long. She would die for this cause if she had to. Fortunately, Loralei survived the conflict. Unfortunately, Rain didn’t, and it was none other than Balthazar that killed her. Like the rest of the village, Loralei mourned Rain, but knew in the back of her mind that Balthazar would soon suffer a torturous demise for killing such an important leader.

325, Death: Loralei died peacefully in her sleep, surrounded by loved ones. She had known it was her time, and simply requested that those who knew her or Fern be there for the big moment. Many obliged, and Loralei died while cuddled up to her friends. The wake was small and respectful, and in the end, Loralei was buried next to her mother Fern. She left behind a few of her scales to those she was closest to, a final memento.

Other Stuff:

Size: Loralei is, despite being a common, very big for a false-wyvern. The species doesn’t usually grow past 12 feet in height, but Loralei is currently 14 feet tall and not even she knows if she’s done growing. Unfortunately, this leads to a lot of cat, or, “wyvern-calling” whenever she visits a Hive, as the wyverns desire strong mates and Loralei is very strong. She also files down her horns to prevent accidentally hurting her mother, but when she lets them grow, it becomes apparent that she has an impressive rack of deer-like horns. This does not serve to keep possible suitors away from her, as large horns are also highly desired. Despite the near-constant wyvern-calling and flirting, Loralei is still quite the romantic. She hopes that one day she may be able to find her special somebody, even if they’re not necessarily a false-wyvern.
