Tengu Physiology 

Being a pure-blooded tengu comes with its fair share of superhuman abilities. Hayate's most notable feature is his wings, which he can use to fly at speeds exceeding 80 mph (130 kph). While that is his maximum velocity, he has great aerial control and mobility. He is leagues stronger than any human and can easily lift a number of people into the air. He has great control over the wind, able to summon strong gusts, narrow streams, and gentle cool breezes. He can also use wind magic to accelerate his already speedy flight.

Purchased Magic

Over time, Hayate has accumulated various magic books and learned to cast various types of magic. In order obtained:

Psychic - This multifaceted magic with many practical applications caught Hayate's attention immediately. He utilizes telekinesis to bring objects to him, put books away, or even levitate without flapping his wings or creating a gust. He can teleport short distances, but doesn't often do this besides to get to indoor places quicker. He is beginning to learn telepathy, but because there isn't much practical application given his setting, he has learning it on low priority. When in contact with another individual, he can get a reading on their emotions and thoughts, the specificity and depth depending on how open or secretive the person is.

Dark - Hayate mostly purchased this magic so he could not be blinded by the sun and so he could read outside with the perfect lighting. He mostly uses it to adjust the lighting by filling an area with dark magic to make it darker than the surroundings. He uses this in combination with light magic to create the ideal reading environment wherever and whenever, sealed off from the outside world by a shell of darkness. He can also create energy blasts with dark magic, but this serves little purpose.  

Light - Hayate purchased light magic for similar reasons, although he quickly found that light magic had many more applications. He often uses it as a reading light, creating a light right above the pages to completely and uniformly illuminate it. He uses this in combination with dark magic to create the ideal reading environment whenever and wherever, preventing glare from unwanted light sources and making his own. He uses light magic as a flashlight and, because the color of the light can be changed, a laser pointer to entertain Emi with. He can also create energy blasts and lasers with light magic, but this serves little purpose.  

Water - The ability to create and easily boil or freeze water serves many purposes and far outweigh the uses of simply manipulating the shape of water, most of the desired effects of which could be achieved with psychic magic. Not only does preparing tea become much quicker and easier, there are also a number of recipes that benefit from the ability to boil water quickly.

Barrier - Hayate can create pieces of barrier in the shape of sheets, walls, spheres, and boxes to block projectiles or to contain an item or a person safely. Aside from air, they are not permeable; nothing can pass through them, not even elemental attacks. After sustaining enough damage, they will break; however, Hayate has great magical strength and his barriers are notably durable, much more so than Emi's. Hayate can move them after they've been created, and they can linger in the air. He often uses them to make others feel more secure, safe, and at ease.
