Basics
Stole some very very very important artifacts from his society after coming up with a conspiracy theory for why the world is frozen in time. Despite every effort to prevent him from doing so, he joined Lagina's road trip.

About
The rigorously organized structure of Xensect society has a place for each of it's members, and unfortunately for Rhyan, he hated his role. Though being one of the few Xensects capable of breathing life into others came with luxurious living quarters and doting servants, it also came with the inability to leave those quarters and interact with other members of Xensect society. Already restless, Rhyan's tendency to act out and escape his 'designated area' heightened further after the Pause. Though Xensect society was affected more slowly thanks to their long lives and their societies independence from magical objects such as Lenses, strange disappearances, dark rumors and other intriguing events began to occur. Left with nothing but time to kill, Rhyan started to investigate and slowly he pieced together a theory about the Pause, and what may have caused it.
Rhyan presented his theory to Lella, the high priestess of Xensect society, with hope in his heart that he might actually be solving the Pause once and for all. Lella just short of told him that his ideas were ridiculous, and he needed to find a new hobby. Rhyan left the meeting incredibly crushed. However, instead of sinking into despair, he decided the best course of action would be to break out of the society he was trapped in, stealing that societies most precious religious object along the way, and make his way into the outside world to prove his theory once and for all. Shortly after escaping, he encountered Lagina, who had once been Lella's adventuring partner. Deciding that Lagina MUST be more accepting of his theories than Lella had been, he forced his way into the roadtrip she had just set out upon, much to her chagrin.
Relationships
Yent [ student...? ]
Rhyan can hardly contain his curiousity about Yent. He theorizes that Yent may possibly be related to Xensects due to the fact that both Yent and Xensects have innate magical powers, but is at a loss to find any other similar traits aside from that. He has a laundry list of different things he'd like Yent to try doing with their powers, and is eternally annoyed that Lagina refuses to let him experiment. Unwilling to give up, Rhyan has decided to teach Yent how to use a Lens to see if that may help them tap into using different kinds of magic. So far, both of them have managed to accidentally start multiple unplanned fires together.
Lagina [ killjoy ]
Rhyan thought for sure that Lagina would at least give credence to the theory that he developed about why the Pause happened. He has no idea why she won't at least give it a good look, but maybe that has more to do with the fact he accosted her out of nowhere spewing theories and waving a sword in her face, and after that experience Lagina's opinion of Rhyan was permanently soured. Determined to get into her good graces enough to tag along on the roadtrip, Rhyan begrudingly demonstrated his healing capabilities which was enough for Lagina to invite him along for his sheer utility. He's still uber annoyed at her, and the two constantly butt heads over even the smallest of conflicts.
Alanna [ strange niece ]
Alanna is smaller and perhaps younger than Lagina, though Rhyan doesn't know enough about Ursils to actually tell. Alanna knows quite a bit about the outside world, but is sorely lacking in history and detail. Thanks to the fact Rhyan has spent his 167 years mostly reading about the outside world, he often can fill her in, which he does with annoying gusto. He assumes she appreciates this, but, that's up for debate. He enjoys Alanna's tendency to actively explore the world and often let's her try dangerous stunts, mostly because it makes him seem Very Cool in opposition to Lagina. Alanna also pays close attention to Rhyan's explanations about Xensect culture, though she tends to wander off once he starts talking about his important theories, which he finds disappointing.
