With BalthusC Support - Balthus: Do I know you from somewhere?
- Leon: Who, me? I'm a humble merchant from across the sea.
- Balthus: I swear we've met before.
- Leon: Are you sure you don't just wish you knew me? I don't blame you, 'cause I like knowin' me.
- Leon: Now usually I don't offer this, but you strike me as a lonely guy runnin' away from a boat-load of problems, so I'll tell you what: with a little bit of gold, I could be anything y'want—an old flame, a fated enemy, maybe even a long lost brother. Whatever tickles your fancy.
- Balthus: No thanks, but something about that rings a bell.
- Balthus: Hey, now I remember!
- Leon: (Uh-oh.)
- Balthus: You're Ruddock "Ruddy" Rackam, and you scammed me outta a whole ton of gold!
- Leon: Shiver me timbers! My good sir, I do believe you've mistaken me for someone else.
- Balthus: Cut that out, I remember clear as day. We bet at cards and you lost big time, but you bought me a round of drinks and acted like a real good sport about it. Next thing I know, I'm waking up with no money and my weapons missing. Those were worth a fortune, and now I'm getting back every damn dime!
- Leon: You've got the wrong guy, I swear upon my mother's grave!
- Balthus: Do I look blind?
- Leon: Not at all! In fact, you look quite astute, which is why I'm tellin' you that if I were Ruddock "Ruddy" Rackam, you most certainly would have your man, but I'm not him!
- Leon: That man is a rotten scoundrel and cheatin' snake, a notorious underworld gambler with a hand in everyone's pie. I daresay he owns the entire black market! Now you may ask how I know this, and I'll tell you, the man is none other than my blood brother!
- Balthus: Oh really, and I'm supposed to believe that?
- Leon: I'll prove it to you beyond a shadow of a doubt. If I know my brother, I know there's one thing he shows any man with eyes. What's your most distinct memory of him?
- Balthus: Most distinct memory, huh? Well, we were playing a game where every loss resulted in us removing an article of clothing, and his boots were the first to go. He had a scar on his ankle shaped like a crescent moon.
- Leon: Aha! Then read 'em and weep!
- Balthus: Well I'll be damned.
- Balthus: There's no scar, but how? Did I really just accuse the wrong guy?
- Leon: There you have it, my good friend. I am not the man you're lookin' for.
- Balthus: Hey uh, I feel really bad about threatening you like that. If you don't mind, let me make it up to you, pal.
- Leon: I'm all ears.
- Balthus: I'll pay for your next meal.
- Leon: Balthus von Albrecht, are you askin' me out to dinner? Even though you're in debt?
- Balthus: Don't think about it too hard, alright? A man's just doing what he needs to do. Besides, you're getting a hell of a deal. I'll even let you stare at my muscles for two whole minutes. Whaddya think?
- Leon: I hear you, and I humbly accept your deal.
- Leon: Now if you'll excuse me, I've got folks waitin' on my company.
Leon leaves. - Balthus: ...Huh. How did he know I'm in debt?
- Balthus: ...
- Balthus: That rascal—!
C+ Support - Leon: Now that was a meal. I'm stuffed!
- Leon: And the company's not so bad either.
- Balthus: Take your fill, pal. I'm not letting a single debt go unpaid.
- Balthus: Well, almost any debt. You got any cash on you?
- Leon: You've gotta be jokin'.
- Balthus: I wish I was, but unfortunately the Goddess isn't so kind tonight. You see, a buddy of mine came upon some hard times recently, and me being the honourable man I am, I couldn't just let him suffer, so right before I came to get you in fact, I spotted him. Dunno what he used it for. Doesn't matter anyways. As long as he got through it okay.
- Balthus: Shouldn't be any trouble for you though, right? I've seen the way you run your business, and I can tell you know a thing or two about avoiding hard times.
- Leon: You're right, I do know a thing or two, many things in fact. So it wouldn't be any trouble at all, though it's not about that.
- Leon: I'm also an honourable man, and between the two of us, you're the one who's havin' a hard time. It's like your very hands repel gold!
- Leon: It'd be better for the both of us if you didn't owe me anything more. I'd hate to put you in even more debt, since we're good friends and all.
- Balthus: There's no way I can afford this dinner... Hey, we should let fate decide. We'll play a round of cards. If you win, I'll pay you back in no time. If I win, I don't pay you squat, and you consider this a gift.
- Leon: A game, huh? I like the cut of your jib, von Albrecht. I accept your bargain.
- Balthus: Good, then I'll shuffle.
Scene transition. - Leon: Yeesh, I lost big time!
- Balthus: You didn't just lose this time.
- Leon: Oho, that sounds so ominous. Are you goin' to take advantage of me now?
- Balthus: You mean like you took advantage of me? No way, pal, I'm actually a noble guy, while you're just pretending to be one. I knew something was up when you knew my family name and that I was in a lot of debt, but now I'm certain you're Ruddock "Ruddy" Rackam, because your play style's exactly the same, right down to the way you cheat!
- Leon: I think I need to give you a little something on the side to get your eyes checked, because we've been through this—
- Balthus: I'll give you something to go get checked.
- Leon: Wait, wait, wait! Listen! Okay, okay! I'll tell you the truth.
- Balthus: I'm listening.
- Leon: I'm not Ruddock "Ruddy" Rackam or Leon Morgan...
- Leon: I'm both.
- Leon: And if you've heard of Flannery Drake, Lev Roberts, or Adam Teach, I'm all those guys too. When you've got a lot of enemies like me, you gotta pull the hood over their eyes to get outta trouble, so I made all those names up.
- Balthus: Who are you, really? No more fake identities.
- Leon: ... (sighs)
- Leon: I'm Asad Am Halloran, Captain of the Scarlet Sails. I was done dirty by what was supposed to be an ally, and I had to hide out in this grimy little shindig 'cause he chased me all the way to Fódlan! I swear I'm not causin' any more trouble! Just hidin'!
- Balthus: I can't believe I'm saying this, but I think I believe you.
- Leon: Anyways, could you keep this a secret between us, ol' buddy, ol' pal? I can't have my real identity floatin' around, or else I'll be in real hot water.
- Balthus: Your secret's safe with me for now, and for a little something extra every so often, I could make sure it's permanently safe, if you know what I mean. I'll protect you as long as you wanna stay protected, deal?
- Leon: Hehe, you're ice cold, Balthus, but I understand we all gotta do something to survive.
- Balthus: So?
- Leon: ...Bah! Fine, you've got yourself a deal.
- Balthus: Pleasure doing business with you, pal!
B Support - Balthus: Well, well, well. Looks like business is booming.
- Leon: Don't you ever visit just 'cause you miss me? I swear, you must be watchin' me, 'cause you always show up to collect when I'm swimming in cash. It's like you can sniff out gold.
- Balthus: You're right about one thing, Red. I can sniff out gold, just like I can sniff out plenty of other things—rats, cheats, and liars.
- Leon: You didn't deny the watchin' me part. See anything you like, besides my jinglin' pockets and gorgeous hair?
- Balthus: Don't try weaselling your way outta this. I got places to be, heads to smash, and ale to drink.
- Leon: Aw, don't be like that, big guy. I like havin' you around and I know y'like bein' around me, so why don't we sail the calm waters and hang out for old time's sake. Whaddya say?
- Balthus: Heh, you make it hard to say no. Fine then. You've got five minutes.
Hours later. - Leon: And then I said, 'Hold, good sir! No kidnapping has occurred today, because that's not your wife, that's my suspiciously curvy navigator!'
- Balthus: Hahaha, you're lying, there's no way!
- Leon: You should've seen his face when he realized his mistake! The crowd lowered their pitchforks, too busy laughing at poor Lord Riddick, a fool too blind to tell a man from a woman! They laughed him right out of town! Sometimes I wonder what the bastard is up to, and if he's accidentally married a sheep, thinking it a woman!
- Balthus: Heh heh, that's bull and you know it! Where'd the wife go?
- Leon: I swear upon my mother, that woman ran away with the lawman while the rest of the crowd was busy laughing!
- Balthus: Ha! That's a tall tale if I ever heard one!
- Leon: No sir, it's all the truth! I've never told a tall tale in my life!
- Balthus: You say, telling yet another tall tale.
- Leon: Heh heh, well, I'll tell you a tale that isn't so tall.
- Balthus: Yeah? Let's hear it.
- Leon: I miss you, big guy.
- Balthus: ...
- Balthus: What?
- Leon: Back in Edmund, I didn't leave 'cause I wanted to. The Sails were setting a course, and I didn't want to get left behind.
- Balthus: ...Why didn't you just tell me?
- Leon: Because there was a bounty on all our heads, and I knew how much you needed the gold. Turnin' us in would've paid off all but one of those debts.
- Balthus: C'mon, you think I would've stabbed you in the back?
- Leon: With the life I've led, it's inevitable.
- Balthus: But did you think I'd stab you in the back?
- Leon: ...
- Leon: The sea is a fickle witch, Balthus. I... I guess I was just scared of what I'd say if you'd asked me to stay.
- Balthus: It's been years, Red.
- Leon: Yeah, I'm aware.
- Balthus: And all those years...
- Balthus: I missed you. I still do.
- Leon: Heh, I knew it. You're a big softy.
- Balthus: You're pushing it.
- Leon: So does this mean we're good?
- Balthus: You bet, pal.
A Support - Leon: That was some storm, huh?
- Balthus: Yeah, nothing like a good battle to pump you up.
- Leon: You've got a shiny new scar to add to your collection too, right here on your big ol' chest.
- Balthus: And you escaped with none at all, Red, how odd.
- Leon: Thanks to you, big guy, which I really really appreciate by the way. Scars don't suit me at all, heh.
- Balthus: Oh, so you're saying they suit me?
- Leon: I've seen every single one of your scars, and I'd say they more than suit you.
- Balthus: Gotcha. I'll let myself get banged up more often then.
- Leon: Now wait just a second. Don't go dyin' on me!
- Balthus: Aw, nice to know you care. And here I thought your only priorities were money and your hair.
- Leon: Hey! Don't sell me short. Money's always a priority, and even that's lower than my hair, but... you're more than that.
- Balthus: More of a priority than your hair? I'll be damned.
- Leon: Heh heh, you jerk. You know what I mean. You're more than just a priority. Priorities are for stuff I've already got. I prioritize money and my gorgeous looks because they're a given. I know I'm always going to have 'em.
- Leon: But I... I don't know if I'm always going to have you. Every time you get a new scar, I gotta wonder if it'll be your last.
- Leon: Out there on the battlefield, it's like sailing the sea without a map. One minute y'think you know where you're going, then suddenly you're being swallowed up by a whale. A map wouldn't've told you it was going to happen, but y'might've avoided the place where y'knew they're going to be. I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm afraid, but...
- Leon: Okay, okay. I'll be honest for once.
- Leon: I don't do well with goodbyes. The thought of losing you terrifies me. If I had to choose between the things I prioritize and you, well, I'd give up every inch of my hair and all my gold to know you're safe. You're on the same level as the Sails. You're family.
- Balthus: Leon, I... I'm getting all choked up.
- Balthus: (sighs) Well, since we're getting it all off our chests, there's something I gotta say, too.
- Balthus: Look at me. I know I'm large and in charge, but I ain't this big just for show. I got this strong because I've got folks I wanna protect—the Ashen Wolves, our classmates, and Kupala. I'd never forgive myself if anything happened to them. The same goes for you too, Red. I thought after all these years, I might've felt something different, but I'd be taking a page outta your book if I said I did. I feel exactly the same as I always have. You're someone I can't stand to live without. So I don't mind taking a few hits if it means I can come back to Abyss and see your shady shack up and running.
- Balthus: Now c'mere. Bring it in.
- Leon: Am I dreaming? The King of Grappling is going to hold me in his big strong arms? Well don't mind if I do.
- Balthus: Watch it, the wound's still fresh.
- Leon: Can't handle a little pain?
- Balthus: You know what I can handle.
- Leon: It's been years, big guy. Who knows? Maybe you've changed.
- Balthus: Stay the night and you'll find out how much better I am.
- Leon: I'll be the judge of that.
