Story

Rigel

Rigel is Altair's longtime boyfriend. They've known each other since high school and started out as best friends long before they began dating. They're very close and despite their different personalities, they get along very well. Rigel is the only person that Altair feels he can let his guard down around and has no fear of being vulnerable with him. Though Altair loves how kind and patient Rigel is, he also wishes his boyfriend would stand up more for himself. Until then, Altair protects Rigel from anyone who would dare try to hurt him.

Gamma

Gamma looks up to Altair as a father-figure though Altair is not too pleased with this information as he has absolutely no interest in becoming a parent. But since Rigel insists on taking care of these orphans they rescued, he decided to just put up with them for now. Unfortunately, Gamma easily gets on Altair's nerves with his extreme optimism, cluelessness, and clumsy mishaps. But despite it all, Altair still ends up feeling very protective of him, though he is not entirely sure why.

Lyra

Like Gamma, Lyra looks up to Altair as a father-figure. Again, Altair is not pleased with this fact, but he finds Lyra much easier to get along with since she is more calm and focused. Since she is determined to become stronger in order to protect her friends, Lyra often goes to him for advice which led to him teaching her self-defense skills. Lyra is often surprised by how much confidence Altair has in her, since she only thinks of herself as shy and timid.

Spica

Spica is Altair's bodyguard. Though Altair may not seem like he would need a bodyguard, Spica has actually saved her captain's life several times by relying on her inhuman reflexes and speed. She is always careful to watch Altair's back and ensure no enemy sneaks up on him. Most find her personality frightening, but Altair is one of the few people that treat her like a normal person. He sees her a younger sibling and will get angry if anyone questions his confidence in her. She proved her loyalty to him after she once saved his life at nearly the cost of her own and he will never forget that selflessness.

Vega

Vega is Altair's second in command and therefore, one of his most trusted crew members. He first met Vega when he was seventeen years old and they helped him to organize a crew. Vega is also sort of a mentor figure to Altair and taught him most of his current fighting skills. Vega's laid back and calm personality tends to put Altair at ease, but he also knows that he can trust Vega to be honest when he asks for their input.

Halley

Halley is the best pilot in the crew and also one of the oldest members alongside Vega. Altair greatly admires her driving and piloting skills and is secretly envious that he has never gotten quite as skilled as her. He has always found Halley to be a fun person to hang out with and enjoys every conversation he has with her. On long journeys through space, the two of them can often be found chatting in the ship's cockpit when there's no work to be done.

Nova

Of the trio of rescued children on his ship, Nova is the one Altair loses his patience with most. Being the troublemaker she is, Nova enjoys pranking other members of the ship, eating all the food in the galley, and otherwise causing mayhem because she's bored. They do not get along at all and several times, Altair has come close to just throwing her off his ship because of her bratty attitude towards him. The only reason he hasn't is because it would upset Gamma.

Subaru

Subaru is Altair's pet German Shepherd. He insists that he got this dog because he wanted a tough, mean-looking attack dog that would protect his property (It's definitely not because he loves dogs and thought this one was adorable and sweet).

Stella

Stella is the crew's medic. Altair and Stella don't always see eye to eye and easily get into arguments with one another as both are very stubborn. Stella tends to leave a mess everywhere and complains a lot about things that Altair finds trivial. On the other hand, Stella thinks Altair stresses out too much and gets worked up too easily. Still, at the end of the day, both can put their differences aside to work together as a team again.

Trivia

• He's always had a love for music and started learning to play guitar and piano when he was a child. He can also sing well, but rarely sings in front of other people unless it's Rigel.
• Both Altair's grandfather and mother were space pirates before him. His grandfather, Apollo, was infamous for being one of the most feared pirates of his time.
• Altair's known having very sharp accuracy when firing his weapons. He is also very good at hand-to-hand combat and was trained by Vega in kickboxing.
• Altair trains several times a week in order to keep himself in goods shape. He also uses boxing as a way to relieve pent up anger and stress.

Design Notes

• His name means Eagle. "Altair" is also the name of the brightest star in the Aquila constellation and "Hyakutake" is the name of the Great Comet of 1996, discovered by amateur astronomer, Yuji Hyakutake.
• He has a few scars on his body. Most noticible is the one on his right arm. This was from him being bitten by K-9, Draco's canine-like battle robot. The top part of his arm was protected by some equipment he was wearing that unfortunately was destroyed by the robot.
• He also has scars located on his chest, abdomen, back shoulder, and thigh. The majority of them are from gunshot wounds he received in battle.
• His preferred weapons are his two handguns. Though he can duel wield them, he usually just uses one at a time for better accuracy.
• He also owns a plasma gun which can shoot bolts hot enough to melt metal. Because of the limited fuel and batteries he can carry on himself, Altair usually only uses this weapon against serious threats such as armored robots or cyborgs.
• The equipment he wears on his arm is actually a mini computer. It has sensors that can alert him of toxic gases, can scan for nearby life forms, and can be used as a communication device with the rest of his crew. When connected to his gloves, it can project holograms of maps and other important data he needs to look at.
• His gloves are equipped with temporary ray shields that he can create to protect himself from plasma weapons. These shields use a lot of battery power so he is careful of how much he uses them.
• His shoes are equipped to help him land safely when jumping from tall heights. They also have magnets on them that he can activate to help him move around in environments with no gravity.

• What's your favorite movie? I don't watch a lot of movies but Rigel got me to watch Promare and that was pretty fun so I'll go with that one.
• How long have you and Rigel been together? Seven years.
• How good is your marksmanship? Flawless.

• What's your favorite special date with Rigel? To me the best dates are when we go stargazing at a park or somewhere quiet and just talk about anything.
• What do you love most about Rigel? He's kind-hearted and has always been there for me.
• How did you get the scar on your arm? I got it in a fight with one of Draco's robots.
• Will you ever adopt Gamma, Lyra, and Nova? Who knows? Rigel probably wants to though.
