Varen Shasces

Physical Appearance

Varen's appearance while "in-story" is slightly different than his original design's appearance. His in-story appearance should be used when drawn with other characters from the story, but his original design may be used if drawn alone or when interacting with others than are not in his canon.

• Light blue shoulder-length hair with a white streak down the center (in-story he does not have the "hair-ears" and his hair only slightly curves out; the green inner-ear sections are not present either, and the earrings are switched to small hairclips in his framing bangs)
• Blue eyes
• Fair skinned
• Blue scaled tail that ends in a crescent shape (star shaped dangling jewel becomes a star shaped jewel attached to the center of the crescent)
• Small blue horns on head
• Very small pointed ears hidden by his hair
• Small sharpened canines

His original design includes "hair-ears" with green patterned insides, the right ear having a spotted pattern and the left a diagonal striped pattern. He wears star and moon "earrings" on this left ear, and a similar star ornament on his tail.

Varen's dragon form is quite a bit smaller than his humanoid form, since he is still barely more than a hatchling. He is small enough to be easily held in the hands of an adult, and his wings are tiny and still too undeveloped to fly or even mildly lift him from the ground without excessive effort. Since his wings are too undeveloped, he is not capable of making them appear on his humanoid form. His scales are blue like his hair color, and he has white scales on a few places of his body, notably on his belly area. His horns and tail are identical to how they are in his humanoid form, although the star jewel on his tail is not present since it is an accessory and not part of his body, therefore it does not transfer over during his shapeshifting.

Clothing Style

Varen's original design's outfit consists of a green/teal coat with lighter green pockets, blue trim on the bottom, and white trim on the sleeves. The coat also has a blue collar with a green uniform tie. Underneath he wears a white shirt with green buttons and a green stripe across the neckline. This is tucked into a short, black, starry designed skirt with white shorts underneath, these shorts having green trim along the bottom. His footwear is a pair of light blue boots with white sections on the toes and along the front where it fastens closed. The belts on front are green, and the fasteners are shaped like stars, the one on the right foot being blue and the left yellow.

There may be some in-story modifications and alternate outfits he wears.

Varen's jewelry consists of a blue star earring and a blue crescent moon earring in his left hair-ear and a yellow star ornament on his tale. In his in-story look, the star and moon earrings become hairclips, and the yellow star ornament is a star shaped jewel stuck on to the middle of the cresent on his tail.

Personality

Varen is a very curious although somewhat shy little dragon that feels most comfortable following after someone he trusts, most often his "grandpa." He doesn't speak very often, and when he does he's rather quiet and prefers to be one-on-one with the person he's speaking to. He gets nervous when there are too many people around that might hear him, so he tends to take a long while to think about if he really needs to say what he wants to say before approaching the person and getting their attention, usually by tugging on a pant leg or a tail if one is available. Varen wouldn't dare approach a stranger until his grandpa or one of his other very trusted adults was around to assure him it's okay, and even then he takes a while to warm up to new adults. He's more open to interacting with kids though, especially since he doesn't know very many other kids yet.

Varen is very affectionate toward those he bonds with, and he can sometimes be a bit clingy. He can very often be seen clinging to his grandpa's leg, cloak, or tail, even when Tymerth is walking around (Varen considers this to be the fastest way to get places). The little boy has a healthy curiosity and will sometimes explore while in his dragon form, but he usually only does so if someone is around to watch him so he knows there's someone he can run to if he gets scared. In his humanoid form, Varen moves a bit more slowly and is a little clumsy at times, which is another reason why he clings to others. He gets startled rather easily, and although he isn't that much of a crier he will run whimpering to someone he knows when he feels uncomfortable.

Strengths

• Affectionate and considerate toward others he trusts
• Listens carefully to the words/advice from those he trusts and tries to always follow the rules set out before him
• Picks up on learning new things rather quickly, especially if in his dragon form

Weaknesses

• Very small and young, and therefore very vulnerable in their world at war
• Shy, easily frightened, and very dependent on those he trusts, particularly his grandpa
• A bit clumsy in his humanoid form and is rather clingy
• Sensitive to extreme heat and slows down/feels weak when exposed to it for too long

Backstory

While surveying the decimated northern mountains of Doobutsu Tenshi following a devastating attack by the Enlightened, Maco Tesoto and Tymerth Shasces discovered a hatchling ice dragon among the ruins. There appeared to be no other survivors of the dragon clans around, and feeling sympathetic since his own brood was killed by the Enlightened ages ago, Tymerth decided to adopt the young dragon, and they returned to Uniselias with him.

A few years have passed, although the dragon, now named Varen, is still very much an infant. He refers to Tymerth as his grandpa and is growing up under his watchful eye along with the other Channelers of Uniselias. Although too young to fully understand the gravity of the conflict between their world and the Enlightened, Varen understands to be cautious when out and about. He enjoys the company of his grandpa along with Maco (who is somewhat of a "second grandpa"), and although there are no other children his age within the Channeler's Sanctuary he does get the chance to play with Karinaga Zilztift, who is more than willing to entertain the little dragon.
