A Hunter who's irritable, a bit unhinged, and overtly masculine but in truth, he's quite a mature and reasonable guy!  Or at least when the madness of his ego doesn’t get in the way.. 

Became a hunter due to his dad's history as an EXTERMINATOR known as "The Sanguine Rancor" in his old days,  however to his embarrassment he got his arm ripped off because of a pride-fueled mishap

Perhaps out of nepotism, just feeling pity, or maybe just desperate for workers,  The Martyr of Rot granted his license to hunt and assigned him to rid of the irregularities and psychos that reside in deadzone WITH the exception he doesn't do it alone. Varanis refused to be watched over, or even partnered. Varanis cared about Hal and knew it was from a place of concern but it has been made clear his esteem is more important. Hal as a compromise made it so he could watch over two people apart of the criminal reformatory program so he wouldn't be alone but stick to his pride, a questionable and not perfect decision but not like she had many options under her belt, and if Varanis wanted to do things the hard way, so be it...
