Emiko (Miitopia AU)

Emiko has never had an easy life. When she was very young, her parents abandoned her, leaving Emi to survive on her own. She just barely managed to scavenge food and hide from danger for years as she quickly adapted to her homeless, parentless, friendless way of living, learning all the necessary rules of survival no one ever taught her.

Around eleven years old, she ran into a rather kind kitsune named Harper, who took one look at her and decided to help. He took her in and protected her, to her immense gratitude. She wasn't used to anything near this level of kindness, and it was hard to get used to... she always feared something would go wrong, and she wasn't exactly incorrect.

One day, a strange wave washed over all of Miitopia. Some would discover its effects later, but for Emi it was painfully immediate: she had lost her ability to shapeshift and became stuck in a somewhat half-cat half-human form. If she had learned anything, it was how to adapt, and that she did. She also found herself with ice powers, which she thought were... cool.

Soon after, the situation continued heading south as the Dark Lord descended upon the world, stealing faces of many, many people. Harper was one of the victims. With the sudden rise of monsters and the sudden "loss" of the person closest to her, she forced herself to flee, utterly devastated.

With so many monsters, Emi quickly learned how to use her sharp claws for combat, and with her agility, she wasn't to be taken lightly. This prowess, she figured, must have been what led her to being called upon by a mysterious voice, commanding her to join a hero, Summer, in her quest to stop the Dark Lord. With literally nowhere else to go, Emi decided to seek out Summer and she joined her group. Summer, along with the other party members, accepted her readily, and she almost felt at home again.

•  Emiko never truly learned how to use her new ice powers properly, although she passively benefitted from one of its perks: she used to feel cold all the time due to her malnourished state, but with the new ice powers, the cold doesn't bother her. On the downside, her emotional breakdowns are far more physically devastating, as they lead to her being frozen from the inside out.

• Her razor sharp claws are retractable! In fact, she can actually change the size of her whole paw to be more like regular hands, but she can't turn them back into, well, hands.

• Now stuck in a more feline form, her cat instincts have really risen to the surface, including but not limited to a fondness of laying down in the middle of the floor and sunbathing.
• 
  
• She has REALLY good hearing. Nothing escapes her ears.
