Not exactly William Shakespeare's Hamlet's Horatio. There are differences between this Horatio and the original.
Horatio was Hamlet's closest friend in university. That much is certain. Most of his history is blurry, but he does have experience in court, and the king does know he exists.
Nonetheless, Horatio is a trustworthy, loyal, and honest guy.

Hamlet is Horatio's best friend. In university he and Hamlet were like two peas in a pod, but since King Hamlet's death Horatio tries to give Hamlet some room to breathe.
Rosencrantz/Guildenstern ( friendly friends )
Horatio and the two inseparable friends are not so close as either of them are to Hamlet, but they do get along well. The three of them like to play games together.
