Only one man knows the true history of the Kraken, and those he tells it to never seem to believe him. The Kraken was once a beautiful creature who soared high above the seas, living in the mountains. He would attack ships from above, hoarding their treasure for himself high in the mountain cave where he resided. His hoard grew, as did his ambition. He flew further and further out to sea on his hunts, beginning to become a well known menace. It wasn't before long that he found himself hunted by the humans he stole from, and each hunt of his own became a risk.

Eventually, he struck a deal with one particular crew. His safety, in exchange for his help in raiding other pirate ships. He of course agreed.

This lasted for a few years, before the Kraken claimed he was growing large enough to fend for himself, and no longer needed this crew's protection. The captain didn't agree, and sought to keep his prized pillager by maiming his wings so he could no longer fly back to his home in the mountains. It worked, and the creature was forced to reside in the ocean. As time went on, he began to mutate to better survive in this new environment, becoming a bloodthirsty, grotesque thing. He also continued to grow, right up to the point where the captain and crew could no longer control him. He tore the captain's face from his skull, and burned the rest of the crew to the ground. Legend says they didn't die, but are now damned to protect him for the rest of eternity. It is also said that the only thing that will bring him back to land would be discovering his old hoard in the mountains, but inviting this cruel monster back to civilization is something no one appears to wish for.
