Designer: Melomiku

He wears baggy clothing as a human as well as armour pieces as a human, half lynel and full lynel, I just didn't add them while making his ref. His hair starts off as a hazelnut brown but gradually gets redder the closer he is to his Lynel form. His eyes are orange throughout his whole transformation. His skin is fair throughout his human and half-Lynel stages while the Lynel body has a greyish-brown tone to him. His weapons are a Lynel Bow and a Lynel Sword. In his human form he's 4'8"(approx. 142cm), his half-Lynel form is 5'5"(approx. 165cm), and his full Lynel form is 5'11"(approx. 180cm) (reference picture does not depict these sizes).

Positive traits: Brave, Bold, Energetic, Sympathetic

Neutral traits: Spontaneous, Instinctive, Adamant

Negative traits: Violent, Proud, Traumatized, A bit impulsive

  • Introvert Extrovert
  • Intuitive Observant
  • Thinking Feeling
  • Judging Prospecting
  • Assertive Turbulent

Egan's personality boils down to a few traits: rude, aggressive, angry, and brutally honest, at least, when you first meet him. Living in a broken household with abusive parents, he's grown to think that it's him against the world. This caused Egan to put a lot of pressure in showing any weakness, repress memories and remorse because he feels as if he needed to prove to everyone he was tough and independent, with a near complete desensitization of taking someone else's life. Of course, with enough pressure he does break under triggers resulting in panic attacks, and sometimes becomes emotionally exhausted from overexertion. It's difficult to pinpoint the people he does give respect to since he's so closed off, but he gives respect to others who fight to survive, or comes from the same abuse as he did; sympathizing with them.
He insists on doing things by himself so he doesn't rely on others for help too much from trust issues. This resulted to a life of crime, often stealing and committing violent acts at a young age. Most of his murders occur with people from the black market trying to take him, getting onto gang's turfs, out of the fact they just made him angry, or on the rarest of occasions: he's hungry.

Despite the fact that Egan's mostly just negative emotions, he does have more redeeming traits that leave an impression on others. He does eventually have to talk about how he feels and thanks to his honesty he's very descriptive and it gives the listener a better understanding. He's quite open-minded to new things and is willing to try them out, though it could be because he never got the chance to do much as a poor child. When it comes to his friends and family, he's still a little rude, though he's gained enough discipline from Koteru to open up to other people. He's actually very wary about what he does or says because the last thing he wants is to have people he trusts leave him again, so he does come off as a bit nervous. He takes his loved one's feelings seriously (maybe a little too seriously at times since he's not really the best at coping) and motivates them feel like their best selves.

Story

His Parents' Story

Long before Egan was born, a red Lynel used to guard his territory, which was in a land that was only spoken in legends and watched over his territory for anyone who dares to cross his path or challenge him. Unbeknownst to the Lynel, there was a soldier from another country who decided to walk off from their original duty of keeping an eye on someone and grab some riches that was scattered across in the land, and his first hunt was poaching the red Lynel. Even with his combat skills, the red Lynel was caught off guard with some sort of tranquilizer and was knocked out, leaving it to be captured by the soldier. When bringing it back to his country, the soldier was shunned for going off track and also stealing a creature of this land that was spoken in legends. Not only that, but the king he was serving was also angry that he was taking riches from a land he wanted to take over. The soldier was immediately taken away. The Lynel was then kept in the dungeons before waking up and escaping. Even though he was alerted for escaping, the king ignored it as the beast belonged to another land. If it died trying to survive, so be it.

The beast found that he couldn't go in one trip, so instead he settled on guarding a piece of land for himself, continuing his duty of protecting his land. But he wasn't sure what to really do, in such a foreign place.

The red Lynel was up late looking for food in a nearby forest before he spotted a travelling theater. As it was settling down, there was a female actor that had caught the Lynel's eye. Curious, as he hid behind the bushes, tried to take a closer look. Inside the tent where the female actor was sitting inside doing her make up, his gaze settled on her long, wavy brown hair cascading down her back. She felt a presence of being watched but before she could turn around, the red Lynel was out of her sight but still hiding outside of the tent. Hearing her get up and move out, he ran back into the bushes and hid once more to take another look at the woman. Once she walked out, he can see her face under the moonlight, and suddenly, his heartstrings were pulled that night.

As daylight came along, the theater was soon up for the public to see. Painted posters were plastered on trees for everyone to see, even the red Lynel. For the first time of that Lynel's life, he was nervous, which was very unlikely for that kind of creature who was known to be territorial warriors that only the greatest of challengers would choose to go toe to toe with these beasts. The Lynel wondered what it would be like to get close to her, and took a leap to step in and watch the play himself. Another figure, however, was also watching.

When the red Lynel galloped closer, he can hear the poetry spoken through the woman's lips, her emotions were welded into the scene as if the story being told was a real experience right before your eyes, the crowd immersed in not only her beauty, but her ability to capture the audience in a dream-like trance through her acting skills. Behind the backdrop, the Lynel kept watching her behind the scenes with awe and curiosity, as to why humans would do things like this but also how well they could do it. His thoughts came to a screeching halt when he heard other actors entering through the back, hearing their murmurs from a distance and quickly tried to think of a way to get away with it and ended up staying still, to pretend he was a prop. Luckily for him, the actors took it and when the part came, the Lynel was revealed on the stage, people gasping in fear and astonishment of the realistic model. Even the woman was surprised herself. It didn't help that the Lynel was now even closer to her, seeing her features right in front of him. Part of him wanted to move and whisk her away, but he felt like this was a big thing for her, so he proceeded to stay still. It would be a shame to show he had poor endurance and stamina as a great beast after all. He also kept his eyes on someone else too, someone in the audience seemed to be keeping an eye on the woman as well. Before he can make anymore thoughts, he was removed from the scene and back into the back of the stage.

When the play ended, the red Lynel disappeared from the back of the stage. Apparently, while going back into the forest, the person he kept an eye on in the audience happened to take a glance at him too. Stares were exchanged and before he could take a chance to strike, he disappeared right before his eyes as crowds start to walk by him.

A week has passed and before the red Lynel knew it, there was a small group of people by the travelling theater, speaking with them, with talk about an actual theater being built for the public. He found this as an attack on his territory but he saw the woman again, her eyes lighting up at the sound of a theater and her wide smile across her face made him think otherwise. Besides, he thought theater was actually amusing to him, besides fighting foes. He felt uneasy, however, when the sight of the same man from each of the shows through the past week has also appeared for this occasion. And he would also occasionally take glances at the Lynel hidden in the foliage. It made the beast think that this man was more than what he seemed, as if he knew it would make the Lynel and the woman happy that the theatre was being built.

Weeks upon weeks became months and months. Over time the red Lynel became more accustomed to the sounds of hammers and the chatters of people discussing the plans of the theater which finished after almost a year. It got him more chances to fawn over the excited female actor looking around outside and inside the theater. He wished he could wander about too, but he was annoyed that his beastly form would only scare her away. That’s when the man appeared right beside him.

At first he was angry, immediately drawing his sword and strike, but it only resulted in the man catching the blade, with little effort. The Lynel would try multiple times to knock the mysterious man away, or even use their bow and arrows to possibly pierce them, but to no avail. He swore he’s seen the arrow go through the man. After fruitless attempts to attack the man, it ordered the Lynel to stop. Somehow, it felt like he was dominant over him, and besides, he figured that since nothing was happening when he attacked the man he ceased his attacks. He revealed himself to be a god, but not just any god, it was Dionysus, the god of theater (and wine). He came down to watch his favourite actor on stage, which was the woman the Lynel was infatuated with. He had also been noticing how the Lynel was always around to watch instead of fighting anyone on his turf. So that was the reason why he appeared to him.

The Lynel wasn’t very familiar but also usually not the type to pray to the gods that were familiar to the lands here but not in his country. But seeing as he was a god, he asked Dionysus so the Lynel could become a human so he could be able to meet and talk to the female actor. It was like as if he was asking a father’s permission to be with his daughter. Amused and intrigued, Dionysus thought it could be good if his favourite actor got a lover. So with his powers, the Lynel had turned into a human, fully clothed and right on his feet, and his red mane now in messy curls. Dionysus explained that he is still able to go back to his Lynel form at will. With his newfound body and somewhat confidence, the Lynel was about to walk out the forest but before the Lynel could do anything, Dionysus asked what was the human/beast’s name. His first words were: “My name is Andras.”

Andras walked out of the forest, and was handed a bouquet of forest flowers and wandered aimlessly around the theatre. He found himself at the entrance and right across from him was the female actor, about to walk inside. He takes a hesitant step towards her and then rushes over to her, calling for her attention. Andras handed her the bouquet, telling her that he’s been watching their plays ever since the travelling theatre arrived and since she’s caught his eye, he decided to offer her a small gift.

At first the woman was intrigued, it wasn’t the first time she’s had someone come up to her and give her flowers, but she’s also never seen him before—in any of their plays. Well she doesn’t really remember everyone in the crowd, but she can spot familiar faces that come by. She accepted the bouquet and asked for his name as well. After introducing himself, Andras had finally learned what her name was. Carman. It sounded beautiful through her.

Carman decided to let Andras into the theater and give a small tour. For fun, she decided to let Andras have a try at acting. Andras wasn’t sure how to start but he was given some lines to read. Oddly enough, he was able to understand English (thanks to godly powers) and performed on stage. To Carman’s surprise, his acting skills were amazing, thanks to the blessing Andras was given from Dionysus. With his short performance, it captured Carman’s heart and he gained praise for his skills, and even got more members to watch him act. Soon, he was a new cast member of the theater, and acted alongside Carman, becoming main roles in most of the plays. They soon exclaimed their love for each other and their passion for each other was definitely shown through romantic scenes.

There was a time where Andras had to reveal himself that he wasn’t human. Andras would pull Carman to the side behind the theater. He told her the truth that he was actually a Lynel, a beast that came from a distant land. At first, Carman thought he was bluffing. First of all, where he came from was a myth, people said that it could exist but there was no proof. Secondly, a beast? She thought he was trying to practice for a new script he was writing. Lo and behold, in front of her very eyes was Andras becoming his monstrous form, towering over the lady. Carman definitely now believed him but she was still in disbelief that her love was--this. Turning back back into a human, Andras also explained how he used to watch her act in plays as a beast and how he liked her so much but wasn’t sure how to approach her with his Lynel form, so he asked Dionysus to give him this human form. After Andras had finished explaining, he was afraid that Carman would leave him right then and there but instead, she said she felt touched that Andras went through all this for her, from taking the step to become human and pushing himself to tell her how he felt even though he knew he was someone that was totally different from everyone else—although he approached her as a human instead of a beast. She said she couldn’t have it any other way.

After a few years together, Andras finally gathered the courage to propose and marry Carman, and later, they had their first and only son: Egan.

Egan's Story

Egan grew up watching his parents act on stage, admiring their talent and the adoring fans they would receive, but they loved their son equally as much. Egan would also learn how to fight like his father in his Lynel form. Through the few years together however, they found out the theater was soon losing money, and less people were arriving. What became fame and glory was starting to decrease overtime, and it really struck Andras and Carman, as acting was basically their life. So when they found out that the theater was losing money, they tried their best to keep the dream alive but the money also had to go into raising their own child. With this happening, they went through other means of paying for the theater: drug dealing. They were basically on the end of their rope and were so desperate to the point they had consulted to a dealer and during the night they would sell drugs while keeping a low profile on themselves as they did the job. The amount of people were now dwindling down and now they were really starting to relying on the drug dealing business. Unfortunately for them, the theater became bankrupt and was closed down. Broke and depressed, the once famous actors now had nothing. They resorted to drug selling and the money barely even went to Egan, it went to bottles upon bottles of alcohol instead.

It was at that time, the realized something. They turned to their child. They wondered how much money they’ve been investing in Egan as well. Calculating the amount of money, they realized the amount of money they’ve spent on this child per year could have been the money used for the theater. When that realization hit them, their anger started to bubble inside them along with their drunken state, they began to abuse their child. Egan was only five years old when this happened.

Overtime, Egan was physically abused by both his mother and father, but it was much worse with his father as he was a literal beast, and on top of that he loved Carman so much that seeing her dreams shatter in front of her because of their own son made him angry. Empty bottles would be thrown every so often and even eventually got a cut over Egan's eye which gave him a scar in his Lynel form and a cut eyebrow in his human form. Carman would mostly yell at her son for being a liability, a mistake, and wish that he was never born. This scarred Egan in his early childhood days and he wanted to escape, but every attempt failed, leading to him being punished severely. When in public—in Greece culture—if you were a man who looked handsome, you were thought to be a charming, sweet man, so people regarded him as a loving father to Egan which hid his vile intentions towards Egan. When in contrast to beautiful women, they were seen as evil, so Carman would often try to make Egan love her so she would be seen as a good mother.

Eventually, Egan became fed up with the abuse to the point he fought back. It surprised the two actors but he still lost every time he would argue and fight with his father due to being of course, younger. Egan never gave up, however, as he was slowly starting to pick up his father’s attacks and grow resilient to his mother’s repetitive insults. Seeing that the child was now becoming more violent and angry at them, they felt threatened. With a quick decision, they concluded that’s their son wasn’t in good mental shape (thanks to them) and couldn’t handle the child anymore, they chose to throw him into rehabilitation: a mental asylum.

When they brought Egan into the asylum, after doing some quick paper work, they realized the poor living conditions and abuse Egan had been living through and expelled the parents from the institution. Egan was away from them, but it still didn’t mean he could immediately trust another adult. If he lost trust in his own parents, then who else is there to trust? He found the doctors intimidating, wanting no one to touch him. He would talk to children, but he found them of no help. His rambunctious behaviour did not subside at his stay at the asylum. In fact, he would only go by instinct to try and keep them away just like a Lynel, using anything around him as a weapon to keep the doctors from touching him—it was mostly pens and throwing toys, but if he was lucky enough, a scalpel. He would even try to bite them away. Unfortunately it only lead him to being pinned down and kept in a straight jacket and even a mask to keep from biting. At the end of the day or if he had to be punished, he would be put into a padded room. This went on for a year, so he would even celebrate his sixth birthday at the asylum.

When Egan was seven, he made an attempt to escape the asylum one night, but he was caught by outside security. His punishment was now a magical version of a shock collar, in which the above the entrance of the asylum had a seal that had a sensory connection with the collar Egan wore. If Egan were to walk out of the asylum, the collar would sense the seal and immediately send a shock through Egan. It happened a few times and it made Egan less and less hopeful to escape the asylum. However, a little encouragement made him find a little bit of hope inside to plan and escape the asylum. No one knew how he escaped.

Egan was left in the wilderness and towns to survive in. His first instinct was to make a weapon. Or at least find one. He thought that if he could, he can go hunt for some food. This lead to him making his first weapon—a slingshot, and a sturdy thick branch as a sword. He would try and steal and if he got onto dangerous turf with villagers or thugs he would use his Lynel form to attack and collect what they had, and it was either something Egan used for himself or sold for money to buy food and water, or better weapons and armour, which is how he got his own Lynel bow and sword. This was his life continuing on, and what you see here is basically his “current” age.

...well...before he met Koteru. That’s a new story.

And life is a nightmare
