Summary
TW: SUICIDE MENTION / ATTEMPT
Darryl was born on the south eastern side of the commonwealth to a group of raiders. This particular group of raiders tattooed all of their member's chests with the same symbol for everyone. Darryl spent the first few years as a raider. He was a mama's boy, especially since his father refused to talk to him. The leader of the raider gang always scared Darryl, he was tall and very strong, and always yelled, and he wasn't afraid of being physically agressive when people made him upset, so Darryl avoided him for the most part, but sometimes that was what set the leader off, but it wasn't often. Darryl soon grew a fear of people who were tall and could overpower him with ease because of him. Darryl had 3 friends in his raider gang, and hung out with them often, always going out and wrecking havoc on the commonwealth, but mostly did stupid things like sneaking bombs into victims pockets or going cow tipping.
When Darryl was 19, his friends thought it'd be funny to lock Darryl in an abandoned shack they came across for the night as a "joke" but failed to realize that it was full of radiation barrels, and Darryl got over exposed, thus turning into a ghoul. When the raider gang found out that he was turning, they tried killing him before he "went feral" and so Darryl ran away. Darryl had no idea where to go, but a few weeks after running away, he found a mongrel dog who had been killed, and with it was an albino mongrel pup, still alive, and so Darryl took it in and named it Spike. He always tells people that Spike saved his life, and helped him see life differently.
Soon after he took in Spike, he joined a trader group, and stayed with them for about 2 or 3 years, and during that time, he made a friend within the trader group he rolled with, and he saw this man as family, but during a trade job him and Darryl went on, Darryl decided that he could trust this man and showed him his raider tattoo on his chest. This freaked out the man, and got him angry, and so he tried to kill Darryl. He accused him of "lying and betraying" him because he still believed that Darryl was still a raider. He told him "once a raider, always a raider". Those words still hurt Darryl. Once Darryl killed that man, he went into a pit of depression, all that was in his mind was what the man said, for a little Darryl started to believe it, he thought only raiders and bad people killed. During this time, Darryl met another ghoul named Darwin, who noticed Darryl's sadness, and invited him to stay with him for a little.
Darwin lived in a crashed airplane next to the beach, and even though there wasn't much room, Darryl was still touched. Darwin didn't really understand why Darryl was so sad, but always tried to be there for him and listened to him whenever he did talk about it, which Darryl ended up telling him, and showed him the tattoo. He showed him the tattoo because he didn't care if he died or got killed at that point.
During Darryl's time living with Darwin, he tried taking his life, and was only stopped because of Darwin, who caught him right before he did it. After that, Darryl decided that he needed time to himself to figure things out, and left. Darryl tried picking up a few hobbies to try and cope, but none of them seemed to work. At one point, Darryl found a pre-war newspaper, and saw a picture of greasers on it, and soon found inspiration in a new sense of style, which helped him cope a little bit, but he still searched. Within a few years, Darryl started to pick up art, specifically graffiti art. Darryl found peace within drawing his emotions on walls and leaving around nice notes for others to read in hope it'll make someone elses day. He also found peace in working with weapons and electronics.
Darryl moved to Goodneighbor and offered his work there, and occasionally went to The Third Rail to buy Berry Mentats, he never drank there. There is where he met his friend, Roger. Darryl was in The Third Rail by himself with just a few other customers, but the place was mostly empty. Darryl had ordered food, and was sitting by himself, until Roger asked if he could sit with him, despite the bar being almost empty. Darryl let him sit with him, despite the fact that he was terrified of him. They soon became friends and became inseparable.
Darryl became less scared of Roger the more he got to know him and see how he acted, he saw that he was a harmless, overly nice, big dude. Once Darryl mastered his weapon building and repairing skills, he decided to go around and offer his talent to others, and asked for a few caps to fix other peoples weapons. Within a few years, Whisper saw him offering his work, and offered him a place to stay in The Treehouse. Now Darryl lives there with a few other people, and ended up inviting Roger to stay there as well.
