Valant was believed to grow into many things. A fine knight, a respectable lord who would go to wed a respectable lady and have some respectable children to carry on the family name. After his father was killed in an attack where he was stationed, Valant was taken in and raised by the Circle Order. He was much to young to be an official recruit so his first few years with them were off-the-books training. Breaking several codes and rules the King had given them to prevent overworking children. This set deep into Valant's heart a fear of authority, many bits of trauma that plague his sleeping hours, and fears many people see as strange. All things he has to learn to manage now.

Despite his father's past rank and his own personal aptitude for being a knight, which in any other case would land him with a King as a personal charge, Valant has quite the mouth on him. A dry wit and a no-shit-taken attitude often got him in trouble with his superiors. This led to him serving a lord in Riverbend rather than being a crown guard, or even a general of the Order. This lord in particular butted heads with Valant often. He tried to assert an odd sort of dominance over the knight while he wasn't having it at all. Even with the arguments and squabbles the lord saw Valant's strengths as a knight and his skill in his job and entrusted his daughter's safety to him.

He began guarding her personality when he was nineteen, and her barely thirteen. After a while the young girl clearly developed feelings for him, feelings that made him uncomfortable. He knew her when she was a child. While she understood, she was upset. Venting to other staff and even her father about it quite often. Yet another point of contention with the lord and Valant came from this.

Four years later during a raid on Riverbend, Valant was set to be guarding the girl. Though, he was cornered and outnumbered. She was killed, and he was almost killed as well, barely getting away as she shouted at him to leave. The lord blamed Valant for her death in the aftermath, and Valant blamed himself for it. If only he'd been a better knight maybe he could've saved her too. The lord discharged Valant and put a bounty on his head.

Banished from the one home he'd ever known and now a fugitive of the law, Valant ran. He was scared, alone, and guilt plagued his waking thoughts while terrors of that night tormented his sleeping hours. Nothing seemed to ever feel safe to him as he fled across the country. Far from any home he'd ever known he kept running from the guard who demanded his head on a pike with a bloodlust that he'd never seen before.

After months of running he stumbled into a small farming village late at night. Practically collapsing into the nearest barn, only to be woken up in the morning by a startled yell of a woman. After pleading with her not to summon the guard the two managed to work out a deal. He would help her family with their farm and they would keep him hidden in their home whenever the guard came around. He was content with this. The work wasn't like the knight work he was used to but he could use his old skills to help.

Time passed, lots of time, but he finally grew to trust Lily. He loved her. And she loved him.

The first person Valant really ever trusted, the only one who can calm him down from a break down. The one woman he loves and will ever love. Valant adores her. He loves her with every inch of his being and he would do anything for her.
