Strawberry is the main protagonist of a story called Somniares, which takes place in the Dreamverse world. The story focuses on Strawberry's life and her involvement in the world.
PART IShe was born in a tight-knit community who call themselves The Tails. Her clanmates function as her family, and as such, Strawberry has many honorary parents and siblings, and was raised by the combined efforts of many guardians. She is raised as a very devout individual, who studies the laws of nature and the teachings of the god Fae. Through her connection to Fae, Strawberry soon discovers that she has the ability to consciously explore when she dreams; this is an ability called lucid dreaming, which was thought to be characteristic of ancient Tails, but nonexistent in the current day. Having the capacity to lucid dream means that Strawberry is able to travel, or "world-walk", between the waking world and the realm where all dreams take place: a universe simply dubbed the "Dreamworld". During one of her lucid dreams, she encounters a mysterious she-cat named π Lucia π, who begs for help in freeing her from a nightmare. However, their encounter is abruptedly cut short, and Strawberry brushes the incident off as a hallucination (which she believes all of her lucid dreams to be, at first). It isn't until encountering two other characters in her dreams, π Kaulea π and Phyrrus, that she is informed that her lucid dreaming is indeed real, and that she is the first individual to have the ability to do so in decades.
Strawberry's first instinct to tell her clan about her newfound ability, but is advised against it by Phyrrus, who claims that she would be branded confused at best and a heretic at worst. The older tomcat offers to teach her more about lucid dreaming and the Dreamworld, to which Strawberry agrees. She attends many of Phyrrus's "lessons" and grows close to him, alongside Kaulea, as well, the latter becoming her love interest. After quite a while, Strawberry enters a dream and expects to see Phyrrus and Kaulea once more, but is instead met with Lucia. Lucia is in the same state she was before, begging to be freed, and Strawberry asks her what she can do. The she-cat replies that she must stop the "Somniares", and before she can ask for more info, Strawberry is once again thrown from the dream. She later relays the ordeal to Phyrrus, who reacts with fury and alarm upon hearing Lucia's name. He orders her to stay far away from Lucia, refusing to explain why he would demand such a thing, which leads into an argument between the two because Strawberry cannot fathom leaving Lucia to suffer. Eventually pushed to her emotional limit, she forcefully ends her dream and her argument with Phyrrus. She is unable to lucid dream for many days afterwards, due to her upset state, despite wishing to dream of Lucia several times. All the while, she hides her experiences from her clanmates.
At this time, the Tails' neighboring clan - the Claws - is recovering from famine, as well as the death of their leader. Their new leader, Hilde, is a prideful she-cat who refuses to accept aid from the other two clans, alongside conflicts in religious idealogies. Instead of negotiating, she demands for the Tails to relinquish a part of their territory, which sparks outrage in the Tails. Hilde's demands turn threatening, and she insults the Tails leader, Aviara, by describing her as spineless. It escalates to the point where Hilde, alongside her most powerful clanmates, arrive at the Tails' center camp and openly challenge Aviara. Due to most of the Tails having no combat training, they are put at a disadvantage. Furious, however, Aviara refuses to bend to Hilde's wishes. The Tails, including Strawberry, jump to their leader's defense despite their lack of fighting instinct, and a full-out battle between two clans nearly takes place for the first time in decades; however, before the fighting can truly begin, the leader of the elusive Fangs Clan, Nyphie - a gigantic winged she-cat - and her squadron of winged warriors descend upon the Tails camp, dispelling the crowds. Nyphie's appearance forces the Claws to retreat. Aviara thanks the Fangs leader for her intervention, but Nyphie coldly brushes off the sentiment. She hints that her clan had been watching the conflict from the sidelines, and that she had an agenda of her own. Feeling for the first time that her clan is not safe, Aviara becomes more vigilant of her territory.
The night after the skirmish, Strawberry is able to lucid dream again, and is met with Lucia. Lucia, still imprisoned, reveals that the Dreamworld - and, by extension, the three Clans - are in mortal danger, and that she herself must be freed to save them. Weary from her prior argument with Phyrrus, Strawberry asks Lucia why she should trust her. Lucia reveals to her that she is the Queen of the Dreamworld, stepping into the light to showcase the royal circlet she wears. She informs Strawberry that her throne has been stolen from her from a tyrant who has been causing unrest in both the Dreamworld and Cape Sìth, and that both settlements will eventually splinter apart if action is not taken.
