About

Emil is the heir of his father, the Forest Chief. He is also a skilled hunter who provides most of the food for the people living deep within the forest. He, alongside his father, are the ones that get involved in royal disputes, their settlement often being the one that serves as a prison due to added difficulty of escaping the forest itself.

Background

Emil is the son of the current Forest Chief in the Forest Settlement which they simply refer to as "The Settlement". He was born and raised there alongside his family, his father, his mother who died when he was just a child due to an illness and his younger half brother, Quinn, who his mother had with another man before her death.

As a young boy, Emil was already taught how to hunt and be independent. He succeeded in the trials prepared for him and his brother to determine the next heir, his brother did not; resulting in Quinn being envious of his brother. When Emil turned 18, and Quinn 15, the latter decided to live inside the Apiaceae Kingdom to allow himself to move on from not being the chosen heir so he became a member of the royal knights under Hemlock's care. Emil, on the other hand, continues to work by his father's side in The Settlement by aiding everyone else in hunts, maintaining the order while still being very democratic, and protecting the residents.

Personality

Emil is very reserved and keeps to himself most of the time. When he tries so converse with people, he only ends up saying a few words before forgetting he was in a conversation in the first place. He can become quite talkative when he is curious or is talking about things that interest him.

His quietness stems from how serious he gets when he is out doing several duties. He often becomes too focused and this causes him a lot of stress, hence resulting to him locking himself in the treehouse him and his father share and sleep his stress off. Despite the tough exterior he shows everyone, he is quite child-like, often clueless about many things due to living in the forest all his life so when he grew comfortable with Hemlock, she was often the one who taught him about the world she came to know and in exchange, he taught her his.

Morality

Emil likes keeping order and fairness in everything -- for everyone else and for himself, so despite being in what is considered a higher rank, he likes to think he is the same as everyone else.

His views get challenged when he meets Hemlock, who defies everything he believes in. A murderer of innocents was who she was but he came to learn how she became that way and for quite some time, it was an inner war in himself whether or not to trust her.

Relationships

Hemlock/ "Sweetling" [ Lover ]

Enemy turned lover; He came to know Hemlock when she was assigned to be imprisoned by them. He kept an eye on her the whole time she was there and she often struck up conversations with him when he arrives at the cave they kept her in. Emil listened to her stories although he acted like he didn't. He observed that she did not show any violent tendencies and is quite the opposite. She was calm and collected, she did not act as if she was imprisoned. He let her out of her confinement with the understanding that she is to help him keep the residents safe during nighttime and if she were to turn on him, he will lure Charlotte into the forest and kill them both.

With the amount of time they both spend together, they had shared a number of conversations, mostly Emil asking Hemlock how she became that way when she looked nothing like a killer. After telling her story, Emil started to trust her more and was beginning to come to terms of understanding why she did what she did, although shameful, she was once a little girl who wanted to protect the people she loved, just like him.

During her stay in The Settlement, Hemlock started to fall for Emil who regularly denied her advances. After a few months of her feelings remaining unrequited, Hemlock slowly backed off and her sudden disinterest made Emil guilty even though she was everything he was against. Soon after, he started his subtle flirting towards Hemlock. As time passed, they both fell in love with each other and soon, the both of them started a family. Despite who she used to be, Emil loved her with all his heart.

Quinn Leonard Siegfried / Farstead [ Half brother ]

His relationship with him is a bit rocky, both were not the friendliest towards each other but they do not hold any ill will for one another. After leaving to live in the kingdom, Quinn occasionally visits The Settlement to bring food such as fish since the kingdom is nearer to the ocean, he does not stay for long though.

Charlotte Marie Evergreen [ Enemy ]

He greatly dislikes her not only for her wrongdoings but also for "avoiding" her crimes by using Hemlock as her shield. Even after her death, Emil remains very indifferent but says he is at the very least grateful that she valued Hemlock so much that she gave up her own life in return; something he could also see himself doing if in the future he is given the choice to do so.
