TLDR

The Soul Guard is an intergalactic organization that trains soldiers to travel between dimensions. Their goal is to prevent stars from burning out. Because Xinyi had previous combat training before being recruited, she was transferred to the headquarters where she met Yukio and Zena. Her planet gets destroyed, the trio find out they're angels, and an ancient celestial war resurfaces

WORLDBUILDING

Khao is a coastal country with a nocturnal population. Although there are steppes in the southern portion of the nation, most of the land is comprised of foggy, tropical mountains. It is known for bioluminescent shorelines and beautiful mountainside towns, as well as its people's skill for weaving and adoration of the moon. Enyo is the name of the planet it lies on. A few countries west is League, where the solar system's Soul Guard headquarters are stationed. Soldiers are scouted at a young age based on the amount of stardust in their blood (not a genetic factor) because they possess the ability to temporarily cross realities. They are trained to complete missions in alternate dimensions, where they live pre-assigned lives. Once they die there, their soul provides fuel for the stars that are shared between all universes. The program was started thousands of years ago once world leaders realized the stars were burning out at an exponential rate.

BACKSTORY

(WIP) Xinyi was born on the planet Enyo in a foggy coastal country named Khao. scouted by the soul guard at a young age, and started rigorously training at a nearby garrison. she spent most of her time practicing in attempt to prove herself to her parents. at 6, she was chosen for a selective three-month mentoring program at headquarters, during which she was introduced to a fellow trainee named yukio. at 11, she moves to the garrison by herself to train full-time. it only takes her two years to be moved to headquarters. zena, ever the extrovert, befriends xinyi and yukio. they quickly become a formidable trio that surpass the other cadets their age

Xinyi was born in the western mountains of Khao. 

PLANET ARC

(WIP) the soul guard is an intergalactic organization/army that travel between dimensions to stop the stars from burning out. soldiers are scouted at a young age based on the percentage of stardust in their blood, as only people with a certain amount are able to cross realities (it's not genetic). during the missions, they live pre-assigned lives. once they die in the alternate universe their soul provides fuel for the stars, which are shared between all realities. the trio spends their time training, completing missions, and occasionally venturing outside the base. towards the beginning of the story, space tyrants attack their planet while they are in a mission. with the building crumbling around them, xinyi has to be pulled out of the assignment early, causing her mind to fracture between realities (see 'fun facts'). they flee into space. upon their attempt to return, enyo is destroyed in front of them

SPACE ARC

(WIP) after the destruction, they solemnly search for soul guardian base in another solar system to seek refuge and process everything that's happened. during their travels xinyi accidentally frees all of the angels from limbo. the historical context for this is as follows : angels are celestial beings that keep space matter in balance by protecting the stars. millions of years ago, following the first war of angels, an event called genesis wiped out the universe to reset it. all of the celestials were sent to limbo during the event. the lack of angels caused the stars to start dying at an exponential rate. none of this was known by the post-genesis universe. after the angels are freed, the trio is told that their human bodies must die to unlock their celestial form. the receive their powers, and the ancient war against the main villain (estelli) resumes. they begrudgingly join the war, exacting revenge against the space tyrants simultaneously. the end is all angsty / tragic

Yukio and Zena

They are teammates and very close friends. Xinyi met Yukio when he moved to the Soul Guard headquarters at 12, and then Zena a year later.
