Scarlet Zircon was made as a member of Pink Diamond's court, serving as a lawyer like all the other zircons. She was made shortly before the war however, and talk of rebels and the Earth was all around. Though trying to stay loyal and ignore the dissent at first, Scarlet soon began to desire to join the rebels. She learned of the intelligent and unique organic life forms populating the planet, and was fascinated by them. However, at the same time, she didn't want to be punished and likely shattered.

The shattering of Pink Diamond was the catalyst that led Scarlet to join the Crystal Gems as a warrior. She fought alongside the rebels until the end. Eventually, she was caught in the other Diamonds' corruption attack with so many others. Her new from was a massive, winged beast, which lingered on Earth (specifically, in the area that eventually became Wales) for thousands of years until she was defeated and bubbled by the remaining Crystal Gems.

Scarlet, among all the other captured corrupted gems, laid dormant in the Crystal Temple for several hundred years. She was freed by Steven alongside the rest, and was mostly healed. However, Scarlet was severely wounded in her battle with the Crystal Gems; her snout and flank were slashed and burned and left deep scars. Her gem was gouged down the center, with the mark looking like yhe slit pupil of a dragon (earning her her nickname). This scar caused a large portion of her form to stay monstrous.

Between her new form and the new era of Gemkind, Dragon Eye didn't adjust to her new life very well. Itching to find somewhere to start anew, she learned about Exxea from a visiting Gem. Captivated by what she'd heard, she left the Earth for Exxea and got a proper start to her new life.

Living on Exxea was much easier for Dragon Eye, though she still found it difficult to get accustomed to her unusual new form. She eventually started working as a bartender in Facet 4, and met her now closest companions, Matchstick and Phoenix.

Several years later, Dragon Eye happened to be visiting the docks of Facet 1 and encountered a rather strange pair of Gems. Cherry and Wine Zircon, the volatile conjoined twins, had recently been relocated to Exxea in preparation for separation surgery, and Dragon Eye, being mutated as well, immediately felt a connection with their strange situation. She took the pair in, becoming a sort of mother figure to them. Even after the two were separated, she helped them become accustomed to their new bodies, and made sure they didn't argue or hurt each other. The twins did eventually move into their own homes, but still keep in contact with her and each other.
