Profile

Quentin Hyde is a magician on hard times; the theater he had worked at for most of his career recently shut down, leaving him without a job.  Without a job, he couldn't keep his apartment, coincidentally owned by the very same landlord as the theater.  Bitter and depressed, he now seeks poverty-driven revenge.  While a noble goal in spirit, he goes about it the entirely wrong way, combining violence and drama instead of reaching out for allies.  Once a showman, always a showman, maybe?

Known Backstory:

Being a stage performer had been Quentin's whole life, so it's understandable he'd be crushed when it all came to an end.  Even in archived interviews, he seemed a little prickly and blunt; it's no wonder he never had any full-time assistants.  Even though he's a Stand user, he didn't use Lonely Heart in his career in any way, as he considered stage magic a separate art that needed to remain pure of any "cheating."

In-Game Timeline (Act 1):

His revenge scheme was only partially successful; he was able to murder his old landlord, but he was caught by the players and sent off to jail.  This decision troubled them--the man DID do a murder, but his reasons were sympathetic, and he could have possibly made a good ally.  The players had visited him in prison since, and had even suggested to him that he should break out.  He seemed resistant to the idea (that would only make him more of a criminal, after all), but not entirely opposed.

During these discussions, he noted a mysterious person named Gabriele that had been trying to court him into "joining them" after he had become homeless, though what "joining them" meant, Quentin didn't know.  He refused their offer regardless; to him it sounded like a scam, but to the players it sounds more like the Terror's involvement...

Investigating Quentin's landlord's house, the players discovered emails to him from a person named Florence Trent, who appeared to be directly instructing the landlord to close down Quentin's theater.  Clearly some sort of scheme was going on here, but what?

Later, Quentin Hyde did indeed break out of prison, but being on the run didn't work out for him.  The party found him collapsed on the sidewalk in a delirious state, looking through them and scratching at his own skin.  The party managed to return enough lucidity to Quentin to learn that this was the work of Florence herself (and her Stand, of course), but only she can reverse the damage she's did.  Can't Quentin catch a break??

In-Game Timeline (Act 2):

A mysterious Stand called「Endless Fantasy」overwrote the memories of parts of the city and characters' relationships while simultaneously skipping time forward a couple months.  The players and NPCs were victims alike, and eventually regained varying degrees of knowledge of what had been reset.  After the reality shift, Quentin's position with the party seems to have changed a lot--he's now friends with them, and his prison break was years ago as a backstory element for how the party met him.  He doesn't seem to be under the effects of any Stand anymore either, or a wanted criminal, or unemployed, or...anything.  Things are looking up for Quentin Hyde?!

Or, at least, they were, until he broke his leg practicing a magic trick, and then some sort of primal and terrifying realization struck his friends shortly after...they seem to remember something they had forgotten?  He became increasingly suspicious of them as a result, until he had his own flashback realization...and remembered what a crappy life he had in the previous timeline.  He conflated this with his suspicions of the party, and ended up taking it out on them, as a sort of "round 2" fight.  After a scuffle, where he seemed much stronger than before, he eventually heard them out, and seems to be...relatively "okay" again.

Ability: 「Lonely Heart

Close-Range, Artificial Humanoid

Lonely Heart is a Stand with an area of effect about the size of a room.  If anyone in the range of it moves suddenly (such as running when previously standing still), LH can turn their body's molecules into a crystal structure, paralyzing them physically but not killing them.  If Quentin moves away from this range the effect wears off slowly.  The effect varies by what specifically moves; if someone, say, moves to punch quickly, only their arm will crystallize.  Quentin can also apply the effect to himself for extra damage when fighting, or apply it discriminately, crystallizing some people but not others.  Once crystallized, a victim can be injured or killed by chopping off parts as if they were a statue.

It looks like a thin robot with a feminine figure, with a chest shaped like a stylized broken heart.

Other:

  • His name is a reference to Mr. Hyde, hence the top hat and cane.
  • The ace in his hat is there to fit with his "heart" theme...but it's also there because he's asexual.
  • He has a snaggletooth that kind of ends up translating into a Cute Anime Fang.  Except he's a cranky old man and is not cute at all.
  • Much like Kathy, he's another old OC that was AU'd into this JJBA setting.  (That's why neither of their names reference much of anything...)
  • His Stand was designed by Bee.
  • Character art album cover background reference
