Profile

Kathy Petrie is a journalist with a talent for snooping that's second to none.  She's blunt, grating, and in everyone's business, using her abilities to leave no stone unturned.  Her favorite pastime is writing unflattering exposés on whomever she doesn't like at the moment--to her, if you're hiding something, the public has a right to know!  While her articles for her job at the newspaper don't mention anything supernatural, she's still keeping tabs on that information in her own private files.

Known Backstory:

Kathy started reporting as soon as she got out of college, and developed her Stand through sheer willpower alone (the willpower being her own nosiness, that is).  That was pretty much it for everyone's secrets in the city.  She had a whole cabinet of files reporting on the weirder goings-on with the citizens of the city, for her eyes only, in the hopes of one day exposing something big that would make her famous.  She knew about the Terror, and had a list of suspected members and/or targets, but she hasn't had any personal encounters with anyone touting the name.

Ironically, she doesn't believe in the supernatural, conceptually.  To her, Stands are the reason for rumors of "supernatural" things, and there's nothing else beyond them.

In-Game Timeline (Act 1):

Kathy first came across the players when she started snooping around their family members and their own personal business.  They eventually tracked her down and gave her quite the beating, ultimately discovering her private files about the Terror.

The files detailed rumors surrounding the Managuchi family, their landlord friends that evicted Quentin, and Hansen Orzabal.  They all pointed toward a potential conspiracy: no one knew where the Managuchis' money came from, the landlords had been closing down and flipping perfectly serviceable properties at seemingly random times, and Hansen was a virtual nobody until he suddenly became big on the concert scene.

Kathy began warming up to the players after her hospital recovery.  She often volunteers information if the players can do her favors first, such as snooping on certain people on her behalf.  Information isn't free, you know!  This shaky alliance has proved beneficial with time, as she informed the party of Hansen Orzabal's assassination attempt on Anthony Managuchi, and had offered to look into Florence Trent and her connection to Quentin's case.

In-Game Timeline (Act 2):

A mysterious Stand called「Endless Fantasy」overwrote the memories of parts of the city and characters' relationships while simultaneously skipping time forward a couple months.  The players and NPCs were victims alike, and eventually regained varying degrees of knowledge of what had been reset.  After reality shifted, Kathy was seen on a news broadcast, up to her usual journalistic machinations.  The party established that she still tips them off from time to time.

It's revealed that the latest request of Kathy was investigation into "Delta Machine," a company seemingly connected to Florence Trent, Gabriele Colin, and Anthony Managuchi (though the party had forgotten that last one at this point).  She discovered the juicy detail that Delta Machine appears to be a shell operation for several seemingly-unrelated businesses in the city, many of which the characters regularly utilize, up to and including Mr. Managuchi's hotel business and Quentin's landlords.  This is starting to look an awful lot like some sort of conspiracy, potentially related to the Terror or even mafia activity!  The protagonists and Kathy must be careful about divulging this information, lest the wrong person pick up on their snooping.

Most recently, a drone from her Stand was spotted in a casino, where Kathy herself was nowhere to be found, but the remaining members of Delta Machine certainly were.  When this was brought up to her, she denied any sort of affiliation, or even that her drones were at the casino at all.  The party could tell she wasn't lying, so what gives?!  This information unsettled Kathy, too, being so on top of investigation as she usually is.  She's going to be checking it out as the party focuses on more immediate threats...but will she be safe?

Ability: 「Behind Blue Eyes

Long-Distance, Natural Non-Humanoid, Colony

BBE is a colony Stand composed of firefly-looking organisms with eye-like blue markings on their backs.  These "drones" can fly out and attach to people, enabling Kathy to eavesdrop on where they are and what they may be doing, though not to a 100% certain degree.  The target may be able to feel BBE's presence as a feeling of uneasiness or anxiety, but would not be able to spot a single drone on their back unless another Stand user helped.  Additionally, the drones can fire a small laser from the eye mark, helping them get away if noticed. When the drones are all together in a single mass, they can shift their collective form into whatever is convenient (such as a fist, or surrounding Kathy in self-defense), and also concentrate their lasers into a bigger blast.

Normally it takes on a sort of hulking form, having a central core and two huge arms.

Other:

  • She's styled kind of like a psychedelic Jackie Kennedy.
  • Despite her Stand's name, she herself does not have blue eyes.
  • The huge gear shape around her Stand's core is a design reference to the Antikythera mechanism.
  • She's one of my oldest OCs, and is in this campaign as an AU.  I usually put her in every tabletop I'm involved in, because of course a snoopy reporter will have eyes everywhere.
  • Character art album cover background reference
