Profile

Josiah Jones is in a bit of a strange spot; like his father, the player characters have never heard of him, and most information about him was gained second-hand from Nemo.  Given Nemo's questionable mental state, there's a possibility Josiah never existed at all, but then certain PCs and other NPCs start recalling memories involving him...It looks like whatever happened to Jonah could very well have happened to Josiah, too.

Known Backstory:

Josiah Jones met Nemo McCarthy and Maverick Tonopah (older brother to a player character) when he was fairly young, and bonded over having Stand abilities together.  The three were something of an adventuring trio for a while, but then things started falling apart once people in the city began disappearing and holes formed in the remaining folks' memories.  The theft(?) of a superpower-granting meteorite seems to be central to this cover-up, as several friends related to the trio's  investigation were the first to go.  Josiah noticed the signs first, still having vague memories of the others, and doubled down on his investigation efforts.  Meanwhile, Maverick wanted out, as he didn't want his sister getting involved, leaving Nemo torn between them.

Nemo ultimately sided with Josiah, but Josiah became fiercely independent, not wanting Nemo to get erased because of anything he might have found out.  Surely enough, Josiah went out one day on a solo mission, never to come back.  Whatever happened to him is unknown, but Nemo regrets not talking him down, especially since he had developed romantic feelings for him at that point.

In-Game Timeline (Act 1):

The party is not sure if he's alive or dead.  Nemo really hopes he's out there somewhere.

At one point, the party visited a "ghost hotel," which featured husks of deceased and disappeared individuals haunting its basement.  One of those specters was Josiah's father, but no one saw Josiah himself.

In-Game Timeline (Act 2):

Jonah, by means of his ghost in Hotel California, definitively states that he hasn't seen Josiah down there with the other victims of Anthony Managuchi.  Does this mean his son is actually alive?  If so, where the hell has he been?  Or perhaps...it's something more sinister?!  Unfortunately, the party has no real means to investigate this, but they're hoping he'll turn up somehow...

Ability: 「Moving Pictures

Close-Range, Natural Humanoid

Moving Pictures operates by "stamping" a target object with a small symbol.  This has no real effect until Josiah stamps something else in turn.  With two objects connected, they swap properties and function but retain their original appearances.  For example, something that appears as a soda can could actually be a 50 lb. weight, and the 50 lb. weight will be light and full of soda.  This can be continually applied to objects and even living things, but the "stamp" remains visible throughout, creating risk that Josiah could be caught in the midst of a scheme.

It looks like a lean muscular dude with goggles and funky artistic patterns.

Other:

  • He and his Stand were designed by Bee.  I specifically requested a handsome artsy cowboy.  They did not know I was asking them to design an American West AU Joestar.  As for his Stand...it kind of looks like an ethereal Geddy Lee.
  • Players were given the option at character creation to make a "Jojo" if they so desired; no one went for it, so Josiah and his father were created instead.
  • The fandom terms each Jojo's best friend a "Jobro;" in this sense Nemo would be Josiah's.
  • His right eyelid is a little droopy.
  • The players have stated he looks like a person that would comfort you but then also tie your shoelaces together when you're looking away.  They're not wrong.
