How do these characters know each other?
Through Naomie’s sister, Joelle. At first, Naomie did not approach Ashley out of fear and simply numbness. She did not want anything to do with her. I mean, fair enough, all she had known her whole life was neglect and insults. Why would she expect something different from Ashley?
So, the latter decided to approach her. She was intrigued by her, and the way her siblings talked about her, especially neoma, pushed her to introduce herself to her and sit next to her in her little corner. Naomie immediately got up and tried to walk away but ashley gently called out her name and showed her what she had in her hand: a gecko!
Naomie, admittedly interested but still not convinced enough to allow herself to sit next to her, decided to stand by and listen to her. She was staring at the gecko the whole time. Ashley just grinned, and started rambling about geckos, while throwing in some random questions to Naomie, making her guess and just testing her memory in a lighthearted way. Eventually, Naomie sat down next to her and started asking more questions.
At the end, Naomie told her that she was fun and tolerable. It made Ashley very happy :)
