About

Scoring a cold demeanor and permanent frown, Carolyn is an intimidating individual to those who don't know her, and even to some who do. She is incredibly intelligent, but her wit is not her only weapon, capable of putting up a fight and usually coming out victorious. A formidable foe, Carolyn strikes with precision and speed, and is not to be taken lightly regardless if she is armed or not. Despite her intelligence and hand in science, Carolyn is very literal and has difficulty reading the emotions or others as well as expressing her own. She can come across as unfeeling and almost mechanical, and as a result has trouble interacting with others and being in social situations. She also does not cope well with crowds or loud noises, thus leaving her to be very solitary and antisocial. But for the few she does find companionship in, she will defend with her life, her bonds nigh unbreakable. She is fiercely protective of the people and things important to her, and loyal to a bitter end.

Background

For the longest time Carolyn's history went largely unknown to her friends, her past kept under lock and key and close to her chest. Only her adoptive father, Maestro Creed, knew of her cruel origins as a laboratory experiment. Hardly a year out of the egg Carolyn had been sold off by her Ayrakian father to an underground laboratory in Veloren, where she would become one of several test subjects put through trials and experiments that altered her biology in an attempt to create a bio-weapon. Born as a runt, a cruel irony saw her becoming one of the most successful subjects the lab had, with potential to become stronger and host several magic abilities. It was when she was pitted against the only other contender to last that long that she met her first failure, unable to bring herself to finish the fight and kill. She had been just about to be terminated when the laboratory was infiltrated and the experiments ceased by assassins. It was then that Carolyn, cowering under a bench, was found by Maestro and rescued. She was only six years old.

It was a long road of recovery in the years following, much of the psychological programming Carolyn had been subjected to needed to be undone. Maestro did everything he possibly could to help her adapt to her new environment and nurture her, slowly but surely repairing Carolyn to be a child and not a tool of destruction. When her father had to take in Zoe following the death of her parents, she latched onto her almost instantly. She aided her development as her own person and the pair became the sisters neither of them had had prior. Her familial ties would later extend to Timber and Archie, the group moving in together while they each worked on completing their studies. However being Maestro's child had another side to it, that being he was the head of an underground assassin guild. Carolyn had expressed interest in learning how to fight so that she could help and defend her friends and family should the need arise, and became enrolled in the Fledgling Training program for new members. However her training was cut short when remnants of the programming her experimenters had created started to make a return, and Maestro deemed it too dangerous to continue mentoring her.

Despite her anger, Carolyn understood the risks, and turned away to dedicate herself to science. Though it may seem strange to most that she chose such a career path given her past traumas, Carolyn genuinely enjoys it and is passionate about discovering what makes things tick. It may also be her way of coming to terms with what happened to her, learning to understand aspects of herself that otherwise would remain an enigma. Her resilience was put to the test when Zoe abruptly went missing after she claimed to get a message from Grave, and after almost a month of silence Carolyn had no choice but to follow. She tracked her down to Ayrak at the Flower Orphanage, unknowingly claiming her place to be stuck there alongside Zoe for a long time. While Zoe grappled with her broken leg and being the target of the Bloodmoon mafia family, Carolyn faced her own struggles. She discovered that she was one of ten children born to mad parents, the father experimenting on them in ways not dissimilar to what the scientist did to Carolyn. She learned that the friend Grave had gone back and called Zoe for, Yagami, was actually her twin brother, and he was just one of several she'd meet in the following year.

After a successful escape from Ayrak and making it back to Veloren, Carolyn would learn that they were not out of the woods yet, and for different reasons. Her past would come back to haunt her, as dormant magic she didn't know she had was woken, attracting the attention of the small remains of her tormentors. They tracked her down with the intention to move into a new phase of tests, saved by Maestro and her companions after being abducted. This would revive deep-seeded insecurities about her identity and self-control, something she would struggle with all the way to Li'Venya before finally reaching a state of self-acceptance. Once home again she was able to return to her work and be comfortable being herself. It would be a year later when she discovered the discarded body of a Synth in a back alley near their home, and she found herself a new project in restoring the machine and reactivating it. She had not expected the synth to be so childlike when it was turned on, but Matrix, as she had later named him, quickly became her pride and joy, thrown into a sort of mechanical parenthood that she had never calculated as a probability.
