Determined to rock n' ROLL with the punches, Howard "Howie" King is a rock n' roll singer from the year 1953 that is now perpetually stuck in old timey greyscale!

Formerly imprisoned in a black and white tube television by a curse, Howie has had a few years in Mahou Wando to adjust to nonsensical sensibilities. Still a fish out of water, he's done his very best to make a name for himself in the realm's music industry. Unfortunately, it's a bit of a mixed bag, as his reputation for being a bit of a diva combined with his (former) residency at a casino operated by a controversial figure has marred his public perception.

He quietly grapples with his lack of understanding of the modern world, too afraid to ever return to his world and face the reality of what he left behind, but feeling out of touch with everyone and everything in front of him. This, combined with how much soul he seems to have lost thanks to his former employer, seems to have changed him. Can he get it together before his fears burn what few bridges he has left?

  • Howie's main ability is called KARAOKE, which allows him to create music out of thin air as if he was in a musical. He still plays his guitar, though.
  • Howie's favorite color is pink, since it's the color that shows up the best despite being greyed out. Anything he touches will slowly go grey if he becomes too stressed.
  • His voice claim is Paul Janeway
What Ever Happened To Saturday Night - Meat Loaf
LivWithoutU - St. Paul & the Broken Bones
Rock n' Roll is King - ELO
⚔️ Hunter and His Hounds - St. Paul & the Broken Bones
Lonely Boy - The Black Keys

  • Howard "Howie" King was an up-and-coming rock n'roll singer from the year 1953. Trading his dignity for a glamour which could hide his "unappealing" (read: bisexual and Japanese-American in the 40's) traits, he made a pact with a magical witch-being in order to find success in his dream career.
  • Unfortunately he didn't stay in her favor forevr, and he was trapped by her inside of an Admiral console television and lived in a sort of purgatory. Later freed when the television was carelessly given to a secondhand store in Mahou Wando, Howie has been adjusting to the modern and magically modern world ever since.
  • Seemingly stuck in an endless cycle of building and burning bridges as his fearful little mind oscillates between a superego and a nonexistent one, he's simultaneously a musician you'd love to have in your ensemble, but not someone you can tolerate on social media for more than a few minutes.
  • His most recent public scandal was his casino residency falling apart. Working for a criminal, knowingly or not, did him no favors, and neither did the fact that the alchohol he was given as a "complimentary" aspect of his contract had been slowly siphoning away his joy and soul over time.
  • Now having shifted gears, he's become almost completely isolated when not performing. Hiding in his glamper surrounded by eucalyptus candles and comfortable shawls, he wonders what has caused him to feel so empty. He's still more successful now than he's ever been. Is he to blame? No, surely it's everyone else that has robbed him of his successes time and time again!!
  • Heavy Note: Howie King was born and raised during a very dark period in America's history pertaining to the treatment of Japanese-Americans. While this isn't a subject that will be discussed in length in MaWa, it is still something that impacts his everyday life. Being raised unable to participate in his own culture for fear of persecution has made him very "Americanized" and distant from that aspect of himself, but he is doing his best to reclaim his identity in little ways.

Jerry Luna
AAAAAAA /positive

Going from being under the thumb of one toxic green thing to another, Howie's saving grace after the casino debacle was landing a regular spot on Jerry Luna's radio show every week. The two have a gossip segment, and Howie loves that he can socialize on a platform without having to leave his isolation glamper. It's a double edged sword, though, as Jerry is an inherently spiteful and malicious person, and a lot of his bad ideas, suggestions, harmful opinions have definitely rubbed off on ol' impressionable Howie and heightened his paranoia to a new degree. But hey!! They do laugh a lot together, so um, it's surely not all bad?????

Riff-Raff Nightgaze
AAAAAAA /neutral

Howie's opinion of Riff changes like the wind. One minute it's immense respect and admiration for his rock n' roll lifestyle and seemingly boundless cooldude rockerman energy, and then it shifts into annoyance and resentment over his spouse, his success, his happinessself-confidence, etc. etc.

At the end of the day he does still appreciate Riff, and it hurts because Howie can feel his own insecurities driving Riff away. He doesn't like it, but he doesn't know how to stop it, either. But it ain't no thang! It's not like anyone sticks around anyway! Who cares if Riff-Raff bails on him like everyone else ever has. [shawl flip]

Marguerite Novalise
AAAAAAA /derogatory

HATRED! MALICE! Marguerite is just CLEARLY out to get him at every opportunity, and every interaction he has with her just drives him INSANE! Her little jabs and pokes....and everyone just thinks it's ~so funny~ that she treats him like a toy instead of respecting him like she seems to respect everyone else! It's a testament to how pretty people can be just the worst and get away with everything! He hopes her hair falls out! Ugh!
