Avery

The other central character with Dahlia. She's pretty calm and collected at all times, but can loosen up or show aggression when situation calls. For new people she kinda gives off this "back off" vibe without meaning it, she generally even likes getting to know new people. When there's a problem of some sort, she's very quick to come up with a solution and back-up plans. Unlike her leader mother, she doesn't have a lot of trust in her abilities to lead anyone. She gladly obeys someone else's orders.

Avery was born and raised in a rebel group and she has been in the same group with her mother her whole life. The whole group is her family, even though only her mother is related to her in blood. Even though kids are not allowed to fight in real fights, they are taught to fight from childhood if they wish so themselves. She wanted to learn martial arts and sword handling/fighting and now she's pretty good at both. She is the one who now teaches new members to do the same. She is the one who runs into Dahlia and escorts her to talk to the leader. Dahlia is accepted under protection of the group if she takes part in the daily chores and if Avery is willing to watch after her. Even though Dahlia finds her a bit intimidating and hard to approach, Avery gets attached to Dahlia pretty quickly and becomes kinda protective of her.

Then at one night everything turns to shit. Everybody she ever knew and loved were slaughtered before her very eyes within minutes. After the carnage most of the assassins retreated and left a handful of people to "finish off those who still stand up" but instead she finished them off in her white rage-filled adrenaline rush. Afterwards she and Dahlia, the only survivors, dragged their asses into the closest city and she dumped Dahlia somewhere and said it'd be for the best to go separate ways. But Things™ happen and they end up sticking together after all and first thing they do together is to run into Roy.

She suffers from pretty serious PTSD and other things like insomnia because of the things she witnessed, so there's those too to deal with daily.
