Character

History

Hailing from a family of ice users, Benjamin's ability to weild only fire came to a huge shock to his parents, which soon turned to paranoia and frustration. Not wanting for other prestigious families to know of their son's mismatched magic (surely the others would think a scandal had happened -- how could two from ice sire one from fire?), Benjamin ended up becoming home-schooled for most of his life. They made sure that little to no one knew what he could do, and to many, it almost seemed like he didn't exist. But once his parents could not find any tutor for a tertiary level of education, they decided to send him to a boarding college. For Benjamin, he felt that this move was a chance for him to prove that he wasn't a complete disgrace, but a part of him nagged that perhaps they just wanted him gone.

Subheader

Benjamin and his older brother, Noel, were quite close as young children. Benjamin learning of his abilities at the age of five did not hurt their relationship any compared to his parents. If anything, it made Noel more protective of his younger brother. But disaster struck at the age of seven, when a spat between he and his parents got him frustrated enough to start a small fire in his room. It quickly spread and the young Benjamin didn't know how to kill the flames. Noel was the one that rushed in to save him, yet both of them did not come out unscathed. As a part of the house was crumbling, debris from the roof fell ontop of Noel, and the two were trapped until firefighters came to save them.

Subheader

The aftermath left Noel unable to properly speak for years due to a combination of smoke and a damaged nerve in his vocal cord. Benjamin had distanced himself from his brother since the accident, and his parents isolated him as they took care of their eldest son.

Despite all this though, Benjamin knows that Noel, at least, still cares for him. While he's in college, he's been making an effort to learn sign language to communicate with his brother; something he had not been able to properly do for the past couple of years.
