Brillo is brilliant, and has been very interested in things like astronomy, stars, physics, and chemistry since he was little. He loved how it could be used to not only understand the most unimaginable of things, but also change the world.

He was all set to attend a prestigious university on his home planet when his parents’ business was sabotaged and he would no longer be able to afford to go. To ease expenditures on his parents and pursue a job opportunity he went to go live with and work for his uncle Brodin who captains a freighter.

Brillo is assigned to cooking duty and is annoyed with all the clean-up and chores he ends up doing instead of more reputable and sophisticated jobs. He’s actually very good at cooking due to his interest and comprehensive understanding of chemical structure and reactions. He impresses Brodin by being able to research and develop new recipes based on known compatible and complementary compounds in ingredients and dishes.

Brillo tolerates the mediocrity of cooking and chores since it gives him clearance to make orders for all kinds of supplies including books, scientific equipment, and shiny new tools. This has allowed him to more or less continue his own self paced studies in place of a formal education.

He's digital "pen pals" with Jay - they met in a virtual chat room years ago and he loves hearing about her exploits from traveling while he shares any small scientific discoveries (often to do with food since that takes up much of his time).
