Sarcastic, quick witted and clever, Alex exudes a level of confidence and competence that can be intimidating to strangers. She doesn’t take bullshit, and can be painfully blunt and to the point. While this may come off as abrasive, she sees it as pure honesty. Alex isn’t mean spirited, she just moves through life too quickly trouble herself with the song and dance of niceties or passive aggression. You don’t really have to play guessing games with her; If she likes you, you’ll never need to doubt her sincerity and if she hates you, she’ll be sure to let you know exactly why.

Alex is a busy woman who enjoys the challenge of needling people for information and learning about them. However, she often gets so caught up in the act of observing and interviewing that she forgets to slow down enough to intimately connect with others.

RELATIONSHIPS

ATTICUS CALDWELL | Twin Brother Despite falling out of contact for over a decade, Alex loved her brother very much. After settling into life on her own, she nervously reached out to him and was delighted and relieved to find Atticus just as eager to reconnect as she was. The two were starting to bond both as people, and family when Atticus was abruptly killed. Alex is incredibly bitter, angry, and devastated to have him taken so quickly after finding him again, and is determined to avenge him.

JUDE | Coworker Alex didn’t think it was possible for a person to be equal parts impressive, and absolutely infuriating until she met Jude. She’s a photographer at the Newspaper Alex works for and the two have a fairly friendly rivalry that culminated in an ongoing game, keeping tally on who’s work gets on the front page of their newspaper more often. Alex thinks Jude is very skilled, and clever but can’t help feeling bitter over the fact that it feels like Jude hardly ever tries to be this good. She desperately wants Jude to take things more seriously but it is kind of nice to goof off with her once in awhile. When Alex begins to investigate her brother’s death, she’s rather surprised to find Jude following her along for the ride.

MATTHEW VALEREZ | Primary Murder Suspect Of all the people connected to her brother, Matthew has so far proven himself the most suspicious. The two were coworkers, Matthew was the last to admit seeing him alive, They got into a huge argument the night before his death. The man is nervous, avoidant and keeps showing up in weird places. And Atticus’s research was missing-who else could possibly benefit from taking that? The Doctor is hiding something.

ROBERT DENERON | Secondary Murder Suspect He seems like a solid suspect. The husband of the woman Atticus was apparently having an affair with? It does make the most sense, especially considering his sordid background. But timelines just aren’t adding up and it seems like he left town with his daughter before Atticus died. Something’s going on here, but what?

LAVINIA BATES | Suspected Witness She has motive to kill Atticus-maybe to try and hide the affair? But it doesn’t make sense for her to kill her best scientist, and she seems far too comfortable with questioning to be directly involved. She might just be too afraid to say outright who the killer is-she’s worth investigating further.
