Seryk was raised on Earth by his Vulcan mother, his human father dying when he was very young. He was mocked in his home town for being half-vulcan; having a vulcan appearance with a human name. So, once he entered the academy, he gave himself a more vulcan like name to match his appearance. Most people who don’t look into his records assume he's a full vulcan, and he doesn't bother correcting them. His mother, T'paa, imparted onto him Vulcan ways as much as she could, so despite growing up on Earth he is able to pass as full Vulcan to non-Vulcan's or those who have not spent extended time with the race.
