In a universe far, far, far smaller than this one and far different, Susan was created. The space in this universe was not a cold vacuum, but a lukewarm area of air trapped inside the small universe that contained only four celestial objects. Two of these objects were The Sun and The Moon. The Sun was a sphere of glowing energy, the culmination source of all that universe's heat. The Moon was a sphere of glowing energy, the culmination of all that universe's cold. The two orbited around each other, keeping the universe in balance. The other two celestial objects were small planets, which orbited in a much larger circle around both Sun and Moon. Each planet had a single door that when opened, allowed access to the web of parallel universes.
The people of both planets were equal in nearly every which way. So much so, one could've said they were exactly the same except for one thing. The planets disagreed on which glowing orb was superior. These planets modeled their society and way of living entirely around their favorite celestial object, and could not understand in any capacity why the other wouldn't agree. It didn't matter that both planet's people were equally matched and highly skilled in magic, crafts, arts, science, math, and so on- they only wanted the other planet to see as they did. Both planets created armies of golems, modeled after The Sun and The Moon respectively.
These golems grew more advanced as the centuries went by, the war between the two planets showing not a single sign of stopping. It was in time that they grew so advanced and complicated that their golems grew their own sentience and defied the orders of their creators. Some continued to obey, others decided to start an uprising.
But two golems of separate planethood had decided neither and escaped together through one of the doors, lost to a new universe. They gave themselves new names, new identities, and put the past behind them.
One day, Jennifer found a brochure. Now, she spends her time looking up to the sun, pining.
