Clever, Respectful, Unfoolable --- Brusque, Critical, Narrow-Minded

Looking like he jumped straight out of a film, Linus is a man of whom most people look to in surprise. What, with the fedora and gray trench coat. A clever man, as most detectives tend to be, he's got an instinct he relies on when it comes to people as a whole. He can read people pretty well and can often pick out a person's intentions after getting to know them after a couple of days. Though, that can be hard these days, when he's stationed in Puffer Point. He's not often seen outside when he's not on the job, as he tends to focus on his work and little else. Granted, he lives by himself, so what is there to do? Never being one to sugar-coat, he will tell it like it is, whether it's the fact those clothes need washing or it's more somber news to break. He's got a high sense of justice, so tends to come off as narrow-minded and critical to his peers, something of which he really cares little about. He'd rather get things done righteously, in respect to the people around him, than be open-minded to crime and the treatment of the populace. He's a good man. Some would even venture to say a great one. He'd tell you he's just doing what's right.

Linus was born within Ocrea, the land of the Hocreans, and grew up with his single father all by himself. They were always a bit of an eye sore when it came to the Hocreans, since it was unusual for a single parent to raise a child. It was unfortunate that his mother had passed unexpectedly, due to an illness that was never studied. His father often thought there was foul play involved, and he confided to his boy when he was old enough, his thoughts. Linus had begun to believe in such an idea as well, but could not prove it, and proof was what was needed. So, he devoted his life to finding out what had happened to his mother. He and his father, both, worked and worked to save the money that Linus needed for further education, and once they had reached that goal, he went into the studies he needed. It took many years, but he ultimately finished his education and joined his people's war division, since that was the only division where he could finally put all that education to good use. He dug into files and pulled out evidence and did a little dirty work, but he ultimately found out what happened to his mother and he and his father were right. She had been poisoned. What surprised him, though, was where the case took him. He managed to track where the poison had come from, and it came from someone in a high position. Long story short, it ended up being a part of her own relation that had poisoned her for as dumb as a reason as who she married. A classic case of jealousy, as he'd put it now. He went to confront this distant relation, as well as warn the remainder of the royal division of what had happened so many years ago... but instead of being hailed as a hero, he was told he was stubborn and unwilling to let go of the past. They did nothing to his mother's killer and did nothing to warn the people of the fact their government had poison stashed somewhere and were allowing their own staff to use it! No, instead, they told him he was crazy and sent him back home. This blatant obstruction of justice left a sickening feeling in his stomach and a disgusting taste in his mouth. So after some deciding, he packed up his things, quit his job in the war division, and left his home of Ocrea.

He teleported himself to another dimension and settled down there. He proceeded to breeze through various jobs, whether it be packing up groceries, working on cars or just picking up trash. It was years before he realized that the big city of Degaldo had a need for a detective, something that was incredibly familiar to him and still fresh in his mind. So, he applied for the application. He was denied, because, while he had spoken of being educated, could not put forth proof of where he studied. He wasn't about to reveal exactly what he was so with a heavy heart, he went back to continuing his own work. However, it wasn't long after he had been denied that a murder took place in his apartment complex, in fact it was the apartment right next to his. He had offered to help but, of course, first off they denied him. But he was persistent and found himself hanging around the crime scene, observing things and doing his own little investigation on the side. It wasn't long before he produced the results of his search and investigation to the officer in charge of the case, who just so happened to be the chief of police at that time. Surprised at how thorough he was and the swiftness of his investigation, as well as the unspoken fact that Linus had gotten all the facts, the chief took his documents and evidence and hired him on the spot. Shortly after they caught the killer and put him in the state prison to serve twenty-five to life. From that moment onward, Linus proceeded to work with the police force, working on any case he could get his hands on.

Time proved that he was a valuable asset to the force and a great detective, and he became one of the best on his force. However, time also proved that there were younger men who also wanted to compete with his position, and while Linus was just as spry as they were, the force was beginning to think that he may need to think about retirement. Stubborn in his ways and not willing to let go of his job, he dismissed the thought of retirement, but the force, nevertheless, seemed to want to encourage him to at the very least slow down. So, they offered him a new location: the smaller town of Puffer Point, right on the coast. At first he didn't like the idea, but eventually his friends convinced him otherwise. He packed up his things and shipped off, moving into a quaint little home with a view of the sea. The very next day he showed up to the much smaller police department, speaking of the fact he was the new resident detective, only to learn that there hadn't been a detective in Puffer Point in nearly thirty years!

Today, Linus is almost always found in the office within his home, working on the cases that have been collecting dust for so long. He hopes to gain the people's trust through such endeavors, since, oddly enough, they seem to despise him. Whether they dislike him because he's new or because of his occupation, he may never know, since no one's on speaking terms with him besides one boy and even then it's never for really long. Nevertheless, he's more than willing to do the work, and ultimately hopes that the fresh air and smaller town will do him some good.
