Name Alou Agneau
Race Witch (Changeling)
Age 26 (24) / Apr 20th
Gender Male
Height 6'5"
Occupation Bartender

sympathetic ✦ impulsive ✦ naive ✦ humble ✦ selfless

Alou seeks to sympathize with others, and is observant of their feelings and expressions. He doesn't seek to dominate in conversation- discussion is not a fight, but a collaboration.

He can be a little impulsive, especially when running on his emotions. He only seems to find his focus when performing magic or cooking, and when not doing these two things he's quite clumsy and easily distracted.

He's humble and sensitive, easily emotionally flustered, but quite stubborn when it comes to those he cares about. He has a tendency to value others above himself, but at the same time frequently finds himself disappointed by what he sees in others.

I, the undersigned, hereby agree to follow the charter of walpurgis and all rules therein:

Area of Expertise

Not being truly Alou, he isn't able to use the magic the original knew (charms of protection), but he does have the mindset to utilize Elisha's rejuvenation in a more focused way.

While Elisha employs an aura to imbue others with energy, Alou's concentration allows him to create charms to a similar effect. Restorative energy can be stored in items, or channeled directly into people.

Abilities

Life Sense: Alou can sense the strength of life force within a person through touch. He can feel when it begins to dwindle, and can estimate when someone might die from natural causes if it's soon (he can't tell you that you'll die of old age in 20 years, but he can tell you if you're so weak from illness that you might die next week.) This requires skin contact.

Restorative Enchantment: Alou can channel rejuvenation magic into objects to store said energy and allow it to be dispersed over a long period of time instead of all at once. If an item already had a prior enchantment on it (ex: a ward, dowsing spell, etc) it instead boosts the power and duration of that pre-existing enchantment's effect by 24 hours. Otherwise, the newly made charm will give its holder extra energy and focus, and soften the edges of their aches and pains.

It takes about ten minutes to create a charm that will give its holder 24 hours of relief and a low boost in energy, and Alou only has enough energy to create about one of these a day. Alternately, he can sacrifice a pint of blood to instantly create a charm, but can only safely use 3-4 pints in a week. In addition, if Alou puts his energy into a charm, it prevents Elisha from being able to use his aura until he rests.

Restorative Force: In channeling rejuvenation magic into a person instead of a charm, the person doesn't 'store' it in the same way an item would. All of the energy is used at once, allowing the person to recover from several minor injuries or one major wound. It does not heal lethal wounds, but may stabilize a critically injured person for 24 hours.

Similar to Alou's limits with enchantment, he only has enough energy to perform one of these healings a day, or can sacrifice a pint of blood for the same effect (3-4 pints in a week). Using this power means that Elisha has no energy left to use his aura, either.

Shapeshifting: Alou has difficulty assuming the appearances of others or altering his appearance in any way- he can only transform back into Elisha.

Syncing with Alou-- Elisha may have a tendency to feel the urge to slip into Alou when he feels sad or lonely to the point of tears.

Desyncing with Alou-- Witnessing acts of violence will shock him back into Elisha's form against his will (blood/gore doesn't bother him, just the actual act of aggression). Even sparring discomforts him if it's intense enough. Addressing Alou by Elisha's name also will shock him back against his will.

Limitations

Limited Resource: Alou's magic can only create so much energy in a day, and his body must replenish any blood used. Spending his limit means that Elisha cannot use his magic.

Lesser Will: Alou has difficulty dispersing the magic in the same way Elisha does, and cannot do an AoE of rejuvenation magic.

Dead is Dead: This magic has no effect on the dead, and also does not provide any benefits to the undead (ghosts, zombies, etc).

History

Alou was the son of a travelling apothecary, Aurelie. They took the changeling Elisha in when they came across him cast out of his home, not realizing they would draw unwanted attention towards themselves in the process. Alou was killed alongside his mother Aurelie when a demon tried to claim Elisha's magic- and in an attempt to keep pretending like Alou was okay, Elisha adapted him as a persona/alter ego.

Early Life

Alou was born in France, the child of two witches from strong bloodlines. His mother Aurelie left Europe after their family disowned her sister Celine for dark magic, unable to accept that the rest of the family would not even try rehabilitation and were willing to drop blood ties for reputation. Though both Celine and Aurelie fled to the states, they grew distant from one another as Aurelie realized that Celine was entirely unrepentant and refused to discontinue her dabbling in unethical magic. At first Aurelie kept tabs on her sister, but her attention was divided as she had to focus on raising her son. Alou and his mother stayed on the road to avoid garnering undue attention from local covens or normal humans, selling their goods at roadside fairs and markets both magic and mundane.

His mother was skilled in purification magic, using her abilities to distill and cleanse and also enchanting items and potions. Alou's magic manifested more as protection against disease and curses, and he learned from his mother how to apply this to charms. The flow of his life was disrupted when his mother Aurelie went out of her way to rescue a recently orphaned boy, Elisha Lunasen. Alou was unaware, but Elisha was a changeling, and the adopted son of his aunt Celine.

With Celine confirmed dead, Aurelie finally reached back out to her old family, connecting with relatives in New York and settling down with both children. Alou and Elisha became fast friends, with Elisha being a lonely child and Alou never having kept any of the friends he made on the road.

Moving to Walpurgis

Trouble followed Elisha, of course. The demon which killed his mother spent years following him as he travelled with Aurelie and Alou and then settled down. It whittled down the members of the Agneau coven which resided in New York, before targeting Elisha himself. Aurelie and Alou were killed, while Elisha escaped and fled to Walpurgis for safety.

Alou is technically dead, but lives on as an alter-ego in Elisha's mind. There is a part of him that knows it isn't right-- that his memory shouldn't be ashamed by the farce of life, and that Elisha should move on. It infuriates and frustrates Alou to no end- but at the same time, he doesn't know how to let go.

Present Day

Alou stayed with Emory for a short time after arriving to Walpurgis, until Elisha was able to find permanent residence at Lorelie's home.

He's been offered a position as part of the staff at the Spider's Basin, but is still trying to figure out what he wants to do with life. He can be found spending his evenings in town.

Race Lore

Changelings are simply fae children that were swapped out for a human child while the mother is looking the other way. They have the magical potential of any other fae, and with the empathy earned from their human upbringing most are extremely adept at changing their appearances in an attempt to be accepted.

Once their fae nature is discovered by their human parents, many changelings are shunned, demonized, and kicked out of their homes for having replaced the human child. This has led to a common misconception among humans that changelings are intentionally deceptive, but most simply want to be accepted by the people they live with. They are prone to wandering, searching out a place that they feel they belong since they don't quite fit into either human or fae society.
