Jun Ikishisu (息詩吸純 Ikishisu Jun) is a Grade 1 Jujutsu Sorcerer and a former student of Tokyo Jujutsu High

Beware! There are some major manga spoilers throughout the entire bio - up to and including the Hidden Inventory Arc!

Personality

Jun appears as a bright and confident young woman with a barely obscured more childish side to her. She's generally well-meaning and helpful, but not above having fun and cracking jokes either. All in all, she radiates the energy of someone who has her life together and is able to enjoy herself throughout it all. But that's not quite all there is to her.

Jun's parents were a couple pushed into getting married and having a child a little too early by the expectations of their families and society as a whole. As a result, they weren't particularly well-equipped to raise her lovingly and shower her with attention. They weren't negligent but in what little time they spent at home with their daughter between their busy work schedules, it didn't feel much like a caring and close-knit family bond.

This resulted in Jun finding herself having trouble forming deep and meaningful connections even outside of her own home. She was nice to all her classmates and they didn't mind having her around but that was the extent of it - she struggled to really call them friends and always kept them at an arm's length for no reason other than the fact that she'd never really known what else to do.

Things changed once she entered Jujutsu High - her class went from a crowd she could easily blend into and disappear to a group of three, one of whom was awfully determined that they were to be the best friends. Moreover, she was ecstatic at the thought of becoming a Sorcerer! This was so much cooler than anything she could have imagined in her boring old life. That combination of change and bubbling excitement made it so much easier for Jun to let herself have fun, to get close to her classmates and senpai, to finally feel like she was doing something meaningful!

She was full of energy at best and acting a little too immature for her age at worst but that was never a problem! Her first two years at the school are incredibly fond memories for her to this day.

However, Haibara's death threw everything off. Her excitement and glee at the world of Jujutsu and her admiration for Sorcerers all but disappeared, as their fragile nature suddenly became a little too clear to her.

At that time, she was a mess. Not only was she grieving one of her closest and most precious friends, but she was struggling with her own fear of death, which had never even crossed her mind before, overshadowed by the allure of this new venture. Was it selfish of her to freeze up at the thought that it could have just as easily been her that ended up dead instead of Haibara? Was she a terrible person for it? For not saving him? For not knowing if she would ever be able to risk her life to save anyone at all?

Thanks to Nanami's reassurances she was able to set these feelings aside, at least enough so she could push herself to go on for the time being, and graduated together with him. Once he quit, Jun had no choice but to steel herself and move forward on her own, pushing all her conflicts and worries even further and further down. She focused on training instead - if she were to become strong enough to fend off most Curses by herself, she'd seldom have to worry about being in danger in the first place.

It all took its toll on her eventually though. Somewhere amidst the entire mess that her mind had become, she came to realize that the novelty of being a Sorcerer had long worn off and been replaced with a deep-rooted sense of dread and fear. But what else did she have left? Her life before Jujutsu High may well have been nothing, being a Sorcerer wasn't just Jun's job, it had inadvertently become her identity.

Even after Nanami returned and her relationships with those around her stabilized again, she could never quite bring herself to turn to them for help. Instead, she has now let herself drift aimlessly for years, struggling to unconditionally believe in what she's been fighting for, but having nothing else left to cling to. She's stuck trying to just act like the selfless hero a Sorcerer is expected to be, or to even just act like herself, when she isn't even sure who she is and should be anymore.

And it's not like she's had this sense of comfortable discomfort challenged in a long time either, because she was definitely right about one thing - there isn't much that threatens a Grade 1 Sorcerer these days. It really is too bad then that times are changing and a certain someone has taken a very keen interest in mocking her uncertainty.

Jujutsu

Innate Technique

Breath Technique (呼吸呪法 Kokyū Juhō): A technique which allows the user to interlace their Cursed Energy with the air that passes through their body and control its flow with great precision for a short period of time after it's been exhaled.

Examples of its use would be concentrating the air and using it as a single powerful strike, rapidly expanding it to push someone or something away by force, or even manipulating it once it has entered a Curse's body to destroy it from the inside.

Flow of Cursed Energy

Unlike that of most skilled Sorcerers, Jun's Cursed Energy seems to constantly be fluctuating to those who can sense it. There is something of a rhythmic nature to it - it appears normal until she breathes in, at which point it becomes more volatile, sharply spiking the moment she exhales, then proceeds to stabilize again and the cycle repeats.

As such, this irregular flow can easily be spotted by Sorcerers, while also meaning that if she were to hold her breath, her presence would be almost as difficult to detect as that of a regular object possessing little to no Cursed Energy.

Cursed Tool

57417740_RcjpQ6xDoPjmLnb.png

A pair of fans Jun started using in her third year at Jujutsu High. At first, they were just regular fans she would coat in a small amount of Cursed Energy whenever she needed help to better guide the air beyond her immediate reach, but after graduation she added a pair of blades to the sides - Cursed Tools to aid her in physical combat.

Domain Expansion

10-day Suffocation(旬の窒息 Shun no Chissoku): Jun's Domain appears as a vast ocean, with a single small structure in the middle (reminiscent of the entrance to a temple, but with all that's left of it being a small area of ground and some pillars). There is no sun in the sky, yet everything is illuminated by a serene light. Multiple cardboard cutouts of doves are hanging on thin threads that go as high as the eye can see.

33563628_DH3fi1rN1q6rWZf.png

All air inside the domain is thickly laced with Jun's Cursed Energy, which doubles as its sure-hit attack. Anything inside the domain gets sorted into one of two categories - enemy or ally.

Enemies are affected by the domain's sure-hit attack, as the air effectively pins them in place and destroys them from the inside if Jun wishes it to do so, while those considered allies find their wounds slowly healing, perhaps by use of a form of Reverse Cursed Technique which she has never been able to use under normal circumstances. The sorting isn't a conscious process, it is automatically determined based entirely on Jun's feelings and not what she would claim or prefer.

Jun is classified as neither an enemy, nor an ally, meaning the domain's healing does not and cannot apply to her.

10-day Suffocation can be an incredibly powerful domain, which is why Jun has never been able to cast it normally. She only uses it once, while fighting in Shibuya, as a last resort when the toll it might take on her body is of no importance to her anymore.

Synopsis

History

57418098_15Bb0AGsCix7Vi0.png

Jun grew up in the family of two state workers who had never been prepared for marriage or a child but were all but forced into it by the unspoken expectations of society. As such, she often spent her time at home by herself and struggled to form any meaningful and long-lasting connections during her childhood.

She attended a semi-prestigious all-girls middle-school (where she also began exploring romantic relationships for the first time in her life), keeping herself busy with some studying and games.

One day during her last year at the school, she noticed her companion on cleaning duty being awfully jittery yet giddy and inquired about what had her so worked up. To Jun's shock (and further discomfort after she'd already convinced herself the shadows she had been seeing from the corner of her eye all day were just her mind playing tricks on her), the girl presented her with a small object wrapped up in worn-down talismans, claiming she had found it at a graveyard.

Before Jun could even decide what to scold her for first, her eyes locked onto a horrific creature - a Cursed Spirit, which had appeared right behind her snickering classmate, drawn to the Cursed Object the girl was waving around.

The two girls and eventually any remaining students and staff at the school ran and hid, as the Curse roamed the halls of the near-vacant building. Fortunately, Sorcerers arrived at the scene before anyone could get hurt and quickly disposed of the Curse, proceeding to then escort everyone outside.

The Sorcerers in question were none other than Geto Suguru and Gojo Satoru and while leading one of the groups of students, the latter took note of Jun's odd flow of Cursed Energy and requested to talk to her in private. His assumption was that its irregular nature was caused by an Innate Technique and thus, Gojo invited a bright-eyed, brimming with admiration Jun to Jujutsu High to become a Sorcerer.

To her, this was the turning point she never knew she had been waiting for - her boring life was about to take a turn for the grandiose, for the powerful and extraordinary! She accepted without hesitation.

At the school she met Haibara Yu and Nanami Kento - her classmates for the next four years - and the three quickly developed a close bond, despite Nanami's tough exterior and Jun's lack of experience with getting close to people. To her the time the three spent together was like a dream come true and the world of Jujutsu seemed like it had been her calling all along.

When Haibara was killed during a mission in their second year, Jun's entire world fell apart. Between all the grief and fear the incident left her struggling with, she found herself disillusioned when all the promises of fun and glory in the world of Sorcerers made way for the truth of her chosen line of work. During the mission, her arm was gravely injured and she found herself sobbing and breaking down in front of Shouko as the latter healed her as best she could, though Jun's memories of that event are rather hazy.

It was thanks to Nanami assuring her that fearing for her own life and being just a little selfish didn't make her a horrible person that she was able to go on and, to one extent or another, pick herself back up and work even harder than before to mend the broken pieces. It wasn't until Nanami himself quit being a Sorcerer after graduation that Jun truly found herself struggling to go on and find meaning in what she was doing.

At present, Jun is a Grade 1 Sorcerer working in the area of the school, though she doesn't directly involve herself with being a teacher at it (even if she's quite familiar with all the students due to how frequently she pays them visits).

Then she decides to follow a lead so obviously baiting her into a trap out of the goodness of her heart and her concern for Nanami, only to find herself getting tangled up in a mess that might just end up helping her out in the end.

Trivia & Notes

  • •The kanji used in her first name - 純 (Jun), means innocent, naive. Her last name, Ikishisu, consists of the kanji for breath - 息, poem - 詩, and inhale - 吸. 57731409_esi6n2n3ZeAw5uV.png
  • • Currently Jun lives on her own and the story to her parents is that she works as a police officer. She covers all their expenses but rarely ever visits them just because no one will really benefit from that.
  • • Went out on a date with Shoko once, during her first year at Jujutsu High. When Shoko pulled out a cigarette, she was horrified (she has to keep her respiratory system safe because of her Technique, after all!)
  • • Cripplingly addicted to gacha games. The main one she plays is Fate/Grand Order. Sorcerers are fairly well-paid, so she can afford to whale every once in a while. Used to play a lot of other types as well, but doesn't have enough time anymore. Funnily enough, she isn't very big on anime despite her taste in anime-inspired games.
  • • The mission on which Haibara was killed also left Jun with a nasty scar on her left arm. She doesn't really try to hide it but doesn't love showing it off either. She used to be left-handed before that mission but the wound made her arm very hard to use for a while before it had fully healed, so she had to learn how to do a lot of things with her right hand too.
  • • So now she's technically ambidextrous but prefers to use her right arm in battle since her left is slightly less mobile than it was before. You really can't notice it unless you're looking really hard though and she does this purely to be cautious.

Relationships

Nanami Kento | ♦♦♦

75903202_iwSH3HQwmp2SmqL.png

Middle school or adult Jun would have never been able to get through to Nanami but high school Jun's tenacity was something else. Together with Haibara, the two were able to break through Nanami's tough exterior and build a sense of mutual respect and trust. Jun and Nanami have been together for a long time and they have gone through just as much since. Theirs is a one-of-a-kind bond which they both value greatly.

Still, nowadays they're both too stubborn to just talk about what's bothering them, so instead they end up lying to each other's faces and pretending it's all fine... Or is that just Jun projecting onto Nanami?

Nonetheless, at least she knows that she can always count on him. Nanami, on the other hand, has a little too much faith in her, so he trusts that she'll talk about her troubles when she's ready but he doesn't realize how at this rate that time might never come.

Haibara Yu | ♦♦♦

75903167_2ehZsPWqgH13uGe.png

Jun used to act a little immature for her age, so her and Haibara had this younger sister - older brother dynamic despite only being a few months apart in age. He was perhaps the perfect person to match her energy back then. And sure, Nanami may not have wanted to admit it because they were often kinda (really) annoying when paired up together, but something about them losing brain cells when combined put a smile on his face. Really just endlessly wholesome.

Of course, that was all as short-lived as Haibara himself. Jun has mostly learned not to blame herself for his death or for her selfish feelings in the immediate aftermath but she'd be lying if she said it didn't sometimes keep her up at night. Haibara was a large part of her motivation to work even harder and become a Grade 1 Sorcerer for the first few years after his death.

Ieiri Shoko | ♦♦

75903175_Mqj6L0PU8GL5v8V.png

It all started with a crush Jun forced herself to put aside. Then she was able to get to know Ieiri for real.

Even still, between her other two attention-seeking senpai and a myriad of problems, tragedies and a betrayal, somehow the two never really got too close. She doesn't even need Ieiri's assistance very often because of how overly-cautious she tends to be. Jun kept meaning to thank her about that time she comforted her immediately after Haibara's death but could never bring herself to go there when it felt right, so she just pushed the conversation in a more light-hearted direction anyway.

Gojo Satoru | ♦

75903160_Ps6mz35tF9zjWia.png

She was so all over everything her senpai did at first. And why wouldn't she be - he was stupidly strong, confident, skilled, funny (?). Everything she wanted to be. It wasn't like Gojo needed the extra ego boost either but he never turned it down. Here's the thing though - not everyone is Gojo Satoru.

After Haibara's death, that fragile nature of Jun and her fellow Sorcerers forced itself into her mind. Everything that had seemed so flashy and exciting about the Jujutsu world had morphed into a ticking timebomb placed atop her head where she could never hope to see how long it had left but it always weighed on her lest she forgot that it was there.

And to her, Gojo had become the embodiment of those false promises of glory. She never told him how she felt directly but it wasn't all that hard to gauge either. He couldn't even argue too - it was him that had invited her to Jujutsu High, after all. He changed a lot after Geto left and it wasn't until he was forced to kill him with his own two hands that Jun was able to rebuild some of her respect and trust in Gojo, as unfair as that may have been of her.

But to everybody else his whole existence was unfair anyway.

Geto Suguru | ?

75903156_XZGQQO6rVZV3x28.png

Geto was a slightly different breed of cool senpai. Still flashy and fun, just a little bit more humble and sophisticated. A little bit being the keyword here, of course. Jun still admired him plenty but then very quickly changed her mind.

An awful person, a traitor, an evil fiend, worse than even the curses, a lesser being than a human - awful, awful things she thought but it was all things she would have never been able to say to his face because his face would have been that of the senpai she used to have nothing but respect for. Geto's entire existence used to and still continues to make her incredibly uncomfortable. She wants to think of people as one thing or the other, as good or bad, so the presence of someone standing on the edge between the two questions her entire belief system. As a result, in her mind she has tried to suppress the memories of Geto the cool senpai and replace them with those of the Curse User she's free to deem evil all she likes and not feel an ounce of guilt about it.

Now that she's long gotten over her initial disillusionment (which largely contributed to those conflicting feelings), she has started to consider the real implications behind the existence of Geto Suguru. People can be both good and evil, it would seem.

Kotori | ?

75903185_yBtizTYpGk7tFXt.png

A mysterious new foe, Kotori appears to have taken a keen surface-level interest in Jun. So imagine her delight when she realizes just how utterfly lost this "Ms. Sorcerer" before her really is.

Jun meanwhile struggles to understand why a human would willingly ally themself with the Curses which want to wipe out their kind, but with time she may be able to recall the lessons her conflicting thoughts about Geto were able to teach her and reach out to Kotori in a way neither of them could have ever imagined.

Mei Mei | ♦♦

75903196_08HCAJ6eT79JSQm.png

The two were never going to be particularly close but Jun still thinks she's pretty cool, if a little scary. Mei Mei, on the other hand, is moderately scared by Jun's spending habits.

It was through Mei Mei that Jun found someone who could offer her a variety of Cursed Tools and acquired the blades she now uses on her fans. She seeks a new weapon from that same person after the Shibuya incident.

Jujutsu High Students | ♦♦

75903151_F0Hc8pCs2OQPzFJ.png

Due to her connections to the school's staff she often swings by to pay them and, by extension, all the students a visit. While Jun refuses to take on the role of a teacher, she doesn't mind helping the students when they need it. A part of her may be subsconsciously trying to make sure they have a less traumatic time at Jujutsu High than she and Nanami did but that may just be a rite of passage for Sorcerers at this point, so she isn't really succeeding on that front.

She likes to put up a "cool senpai" act in front of them but isn't exactly known for being able to keep it up for very long.
