Charlie

Title: Lady Charlotte of Clan Maastricht

Species: Demi-Human (Sugar Glider)/Resonator/Ethereal

Born: August 10th, 623AR

Ascended: After 638AR

Height: 4’8” (142cm)

Weight: 65lb (29kg)

Gender: Female

Rhythm Strength:  Emotion

Rhythm Weakness: Knowledge

Element: Lightning

Attribute:  Null

Likes: Food in general, especially sour things; Family; Fighting;

Dislikes: Going hungry, people who think she’s cute or generally look down on her, feeling trapped or helpless

Phobias: Autophobia – Fear of being alone

The perpetual trainee of the Noble Swords, she is commonly looked down upon as lesser than her contemporaries, even glossing over the fact that she was notable enough to ascend to the seat of an ethereal.

In reality she was given the monumental task of being the solitary check and balance to the Noble Swords. During times where the Noble Swords are active, she too is active, challenging her mentor's beliefs to ensure they stay on the path of righteousness.

She herself doesn't care for this task, but regardless of her own personal feelings on the matter will always rise to the challenge when it presents itself.

Outside of her responsibilities of being a Noble Sword, the girl herself is a bit of a spitfire; she’s quick to anger and will not hesitate to start a fight, especially if she feels whoever she is talking to is looking down on her. In that way she is the basis of the hot-blooded student archetype with many of those type of characters in fiction being based on legends about her.

She's wary of strangers at first and will spend longer than most people would think is acceptable feeling them out before she's comfortable approaching them. As a result, many people when first meeting her come to the assumption that she's shy or even stand-offish, which is exacerbated by the glares she wears while observing people.

Her strong emotion-based rhythm is almost a detriment as she reads intent from those around her quite easily and rapidly forms her own opinions and conclusions without allowing the target in question to explain their motivations. Gaining her trust is a herculean task due to this.

However, when alone with people she trusts is when her real personality comes out. She's kind and caring, looking out for those she loves before anything else. She's also quite playful wanting to enjoy the time she spends with her loved ones as much as possible. She died young and is perpetually a child despite the many centuries that have passed.

Where she's at her element the most is when fighting, especially if it's for the sake of her friends and family. She doesn't have an honor system to speak of - if it'll help her win a fight, she'll make use of it. Though she is mindful of the opinions of those closest to her, sensing when she does something they may disapprove of and making a note to not do that in the future.

If she swears fealty to someone, she has already committed to them. Her heart bound to them as one does a close family member. It may come across as sudden to the recipient of her blade, but to her it is a matter of pride. For every maestro she has watched pass from this world she has shed enough tears to fill an ocean. Even as cursed as she is, in her private moments she allows tears to flow for people who she couldn't possibly remember.

Life

Charlotte was born in 623AR during the period of the Natural decline. During this time, it can be said that the empires which Naturals ruled over were in the downturn, breaking apart due to war and simple genetics. As any dying superpower would do, they clamped down on Resonators and Maestros. It was especially difficult on the Resonators; any Natural would take out their frustrations on Resonators, with many being killed or enslaved.

Charlie was born into an average family, however with the intensifying fighting she would lose her parents early on.

She was too young to be radicalized, but found herself taken in by the radical elements of society at the time. She was under the direct tutelage of Armando, Isaac, and Artemis. To this end, she was considered to be one of the Noble Swords alongside the three generals.

While she never had a maestro, Armando would wax poetic about the joys of serving a maestro. The bond one shares with their maestro being the ultimate satisfaction in life.

In time she found her family with the Noble Swords. She never thought herself better than her teachers, but in the end, she was a lot stronger than she ever thought of herself.

How she died

A particularly famous story amongst Null-attributes was passed along through the years of her demise. It was said that she continued fighting well after the deaths of Armando, Isaac, and Artemis. Punching well above her weight class and finishing what the Noble Swords had started.

Life after Ascension

Scholars to this day still argue about when exactly she ascended.

She appears at times in the public records from 700AR on, though unlike her teachers, she always appeared their opposite. In this way it could be said she is their direct balance; the one who ensures the nobility of the Noble Swords.

Charlotte of clan Maastricht is the one who judges the rebellion, the one who ensures the blood split by the Noble Swords is just and truly deserving of their sacrifice.

She is cursed, however. Her legend is that of the perpetual trainee, and as such, she loses the skills, memories and bonds of her maestros whom she swears fealty to when their bond is irreversably broken; that is to say: should her maestro shuffle off this mortal coil, her experiences and memories from them shall too pass from her mind.

Charlie's personal sword, this bladeless relic represents the potential of all resonators. The relic is constructed of pure Vatonium ore, giving it a "life" of its own. This allows the holder to not only block enemy spellcasting, but to allow Charlie herself to channel spells through the weapon, allowing her spells to rend her adversaries.

This relic also doubles as a Proto-Tuner, which Charlie presents to a maestro who she believes in. This fealty can be rejected by Charlie herself, at which point the relic returns to her.
