Roon, when passing through Yeriel's homeworld, saved the child from what would have been certain death. By doing so however they unintentionally severed all ties Yeriel had with that world, keeping him from ever being able to return. Regretful of the consequences (but not the decision itself) Roon offered to take Yeriel to another world to allow him to start a new life. After some weeks of deliberation spent in Roon's home Yeriel refused the offer and asked instead if the god would take him in and teach him to be a merchant.

Yeriel was 13 when these events took place. He's since learned much of the trade and accompanies Roon on their trips, meeting all sorts of people, gods, and monsters and seeing worlds he couldn't have dared to imagine before. He misses his homeworld and is sad he cannot even send a message back to his family and friends there but is far from unhappy with his current life.
