A former handyman in the Octarian forces. Al is a jack-of-all-trades with surface level knowledge of mechanics, illustration, music theory, sewing and most importantly, combat, due to growing up doing a wide variety of jobs and tasks. He deserted his position at 16 years old and found himself in Inkling society.

Al favors the business casual style of dress, and always likes to wear a loose tie with a partially buttoned shirt. He like the look of a shirt and tie, but doesn't want to feel too stiff in his clothes or look uptight to others. His pants tend to be fitted to his legs to show off his calves. He wears insoles in his sneakers so that he can run longer in them.

Al is incredibly social and loves to talk, and is attuned to his emotional side. He is easily able to walk up to someone and strike up a conversation, which used to lead up to him attempting to flirt. He is in a relationship with an Inkling girl named Azure, whose intense shyness sharply contrasts Al's sociable nature. This allows them both to acknowledge each other's strengths and flaws, and improve themselves together. He seems to bombard his girlfriend with compliments and friendly flirting, and the two usually work Salmon Run shifts together. Al affectionately calls her his 'Sunlit Sky.' Him meeting and forming a relationship with Azure created tension between him and Azure's brother Indigo, who didn't take kindly to a stranger flirting with his sister. Al is pretty respectful towards Indigo, but it takes a long time for Indigo to loosen up around Al.

Al greatly looks up to an octoling in the competitive scene known as Viri-Kuri, to a degree bordering hero worship. He became obssessed with training, improving, and ranking up in battles with the hope that his skill would get his senpai's attention. He is very emotionally invested in this goal, which has major effects on him when he feels he isn't playing at his best. He sometimes feels especially hopeless after a rank down or in response to one of Viri-Kuri's many harsh remarks about sub-X rank players. It's possible that he places too much of his sense of self worth on how he might be percieved by Viri-Kuri. Al has seen his idol in person before, but actually finds holding a conversation with him to be very difficult. He has been experimenting with other weapons, and has taken a liking to the Splattershot, Dualie Squelchers, .52 and .96 Gals, and the Sloshing Machine, even taking these weapons into a few Ranked matches. Al also avidly participates in Viri-Kuri's open match sessions, because he seriously aims to take a spot on Viri-Kuri's competitive team Tentacuffs. His plan is to really show Viri-Kuri his skills once the current team falls apart. Despite trying out and enjoying other weapons, the N-ZAP is still where he feels most comfortable.
