An uptight, over-achieving theatre kid.

Alec is that over-achieving, perfectionistic kid. Alec puts his best foot forward both when it comes to academics and his theatre performances. He is extremely passionate about performances to an extreme. To the point where he can be nitpicky and controlling of others; leading to resentment from his peers. Alec gets bent out of shape if lines are read in a monotone way, or if a performance lacks passion. This also extends to reading classes when students are asked to read lines from a book, and they don't put any effort into the read.

Alec's perfectionism stems from expectations put on him by his father. Alec does everything he can to maintain being on the all-A honor roll, even if it means sacrificing his own mental well-being. Everything has to be just right; anything under an A is a sign of failure and regression. Alec takes his studies so seriously that he flips out if his concentration is broken. 

Alec tends to go on long-winded rants when he's annoyed or upset with something.

Alec doesn't have the best people skills at the start of the series. He does learn to lighten up more with his fellow theatre kids as time goes on. Bonding with Jamal does help this.

HISTORY/BIOGRAPHY

Alec is the golden child in his family of 4; his father's pride and joy. Alec and his older brother, Marshall, were raised with high expectations from their conservative father. They were expected to be at the top of their classes, and be presentable, proper young men.  Marshall rebelled against this. His grades slipped as he got into adolescence. Marshall poured more effort and energy into writing songs for a rap career; something his father was against. Mr. MacDuff was against anything he considered to be "gang-related".  Since Marshall was a disappointment, there was more pressure put on the perfectionistic Alec to be at the top of his class. 

Alec took an interest in theatre in middle school. Alec had always enjoyed class plays as a kid, and he needed something other than academics. While his mother was supportive, his father told him "you better be worth it" with acting; not wanting him to follow in Marshall's footsteps. Alec showed great potential, and always put his best foot forward with acting. He wanted to prove to those around him that he has what it takes. Alec became one of the best actors in his theatre group. Though his perfectionistic nature made him a control freak, and hard to work with over time.

During his middle school theatre stint, Alec went out with one of his theatre-mates, Julia. She broke up with him, realizing he was a basket-case; they're still friends to this day. And she likes to prod him for being a stick-in-the-mud.

Fast forward to the current timeline, the theatre instructor had to sit Alec down over some lavender tea. He told Alec to loosen up, otherwise he'll be delegated to side roles. He makes it clear to Alec that his theatre-mates are doing their best and that it's not the Alec-show out there. With that being his wake-up call, Alec does slowly loosen up as time goes on. His journey of unwinding is aided by the theatre class's biggest class clown, Jamal. The two eventually have a heart to heart on what theatre means to each of them.
