Næmid

he/they - 561yrs - INTJ-T

"Forgive others. Not because they deserve forgiveness, but because you deserve piece."

PROFILE

Næmid is death. His touch seperates the soul from the dying body. They need to maintain balance between the living and the dead. Oh and they're just a kind hearted pal who is greatly misunderstood.

Næmid lived on Khela when he was human, but he got a prisoner of war at a young age. They got tortured and then starved to death, and in their death seconds get chosen to ascend to an eternal being - death. He now lives in the eternal Realm of death, Ekinem, which is unaffected of time and place.

They fulfill their destiny carfully and thoroughly, and the planet blooms for all the years he served the balance of life and death - and their realms, Streranem and Ekinem. However, with the sudden and unforeseen retirement of the spirit of life and the spirit of death, the balance that Næmid has worked hard to achieve begins to crumble. It is now his job to help the newly chosen spirits find their way into their responsibilities.

Næmid now visits the newly chosen spirit of death, Yoki, in her dreams. She is still human, and he finds himself hoping she would be able to stay exactly that for a longer time then they were able to back when they were in her place.

PERSONALITY

"You cannot escape the responsibilities of tomorrow by evading it today."

Næmid is dutiful, precise in fulfilling their duties, and often appear cold-hearted. He has not been human for half a millenium, and he starts finding it difficult to understand human emotions, fear, and their clinging on life. It doesn't matter to them anymore. However, he hates to see humans suffer because of him, turning pale of fear facing him. He can't change it, their appearance shifts to the humans prejudices on how death might look like. Only someone who does not have any prejudices will see how Næmid really looks like, which is apparently their old human body. Næmid could in fact shift to whatever he pleases, but keeps his body as a reminder of his long past human life.

Næmid tries to help Yoki adjust, but needs her to fulfill her duties, as without the spirits, the balance can't be kept. Yoki nearly breaks under the burden of it nevertheless.

DISLIKES
  • Prejudice
  • Chaos
  • Seeing souls suffer
  • Loneliness
  • Disharmony
  • HOBBY: They like to look at the stars a lot. It's one of the rare things destiny didn't decide about and it makes them feel calm.
  • HOBBY: If he finds someone to talk, he likes to discuss deep questions that have more than one answer - he likes to see others vision on life, death, and the universe.
  • HABIT: Næmid tends to open up to people rarely and if he does at all.
  • HABIT: They can't sleep, for they are an eternal being, but he likes to meditate to get some rest.
  • STRENGTH: Cares deeply for the world and would never give it up
  • STRENGTH: Intelligent and wise
  • STRENGTH: Always keeps calm and knows the right thing to do next
  • WEAKNESS: Doesn't understand humanity, feelings, love, fear well
  • WEAKNESS: Can't open up to people well as he's used to being alone
  • WEAKNESS: Bad in explaining
  • NOTE: Since he's DEATH, he has a lot of magic abilities.
  • MAGIC SKILL: Touch people's souls to separate them from their mortal body
  • MAGIC SKILL: Communicate with destiny
  • MAGIC SKILL: Travel through time and space
  • MAGIC SKILL: Communicate with people in their minds (mainly in dreams)
  • MAGIC SKILL: Shift forms and appearance to his liking (he does not do that since people see him differently anyways)
  • People who encounter him see him as how they would imagine death as a person - which is mostly intimidating - a black figure without a face and a huge scythe. Most people fear them.
  • Death rarely gets in contact with mortals, he tries to only do it in the moment of their death. Yoki is pretty much the only exception.
  • He only wants to help Yoki adjust, as they have to work together, but does an awful job as he can't quite understand mortality anymore. They do his best tho!
  • Death goes by he/him or they/them. In fact, they are genderless as an eternal being - but they were human before he died so he goes by that body and his old pronouns as well.
  • The Realm of Death, Ekinem, allows Death to travel through time and space. It's cold there, but eternally silent.
Childhood

Not much is known about Næmid's childhood. It lies back hundreds of years. He was born in the same tribe Helaku and Yoki were born into. He was a silent child, very introverted and hardly spoke to others. His parents loved him, but the older he got, the less they could break through to him.

When he grew up, he was a lone wolf, and people thought he was weird. People sometimes were bickering and harrassing him, calling him names, but mostly just ignored him completely.

He had always been determined and exceedingly dutiful in anything he got assigned to do, which is why the tribe kept assigning him the work nobody else wanted to do.

The war had been raging for several years and when he was old enough, he became a soldier. The tasks he then faced as a fighter were ridiculously dangerous, but he strove to carry out everything to the satisfaction of his tribe and the chief, so as not to fall from grace.

One day he found himself surrounded by the enemy with a group of other warriors. He became a prisoner of war and was mistreated daily for interrogation. His colleagues tried to negotiate to get out of captivity alive, but Næmid never said a word and kept his head held high. He didn't try to run, he didn't try to save his life, but accepted his destiny quietly.

Because this provoked the enemy, they started to deprive him of food and slowly starved him to death.

In the moment of their death, they ascended to an eternal being, death, which destiny chose them to be. From then on, he has always kept the planet in balance.

They are now unaffected of time (and actually, time and them aren't the best friends since they got to know each other personally)and will exist forever unless they are killed by another eternal creature, in which case another destiny's chosen has to ascend.

YOKI

Yoki and Næmid meet in Yoki's dreams, and at first, Yoki is terrified of the dark creature demanding her to make choices over life and death. However, she starts to research with Helaku about her nightmares and finds a lot of lore about death, including the fact that only the person without prejudices can see death in his true form. After she's mastered it, she sees Næmid for the first time and starts listening and finally starts to understand why he needs her help so badly.

Helaku

Helaku is Yoki's twin and although he is very sceptical about Næmid, he respects his sisters wish to find out more about them. Eventually, they start working together. However, Næmid hardly ever visits Helaku in his dreams although they could, so they hardly see each other.

Kiaan

Kiaan is a cursed dragon shapeshifter. Næmid has known him for longer, since Kiaan has died multiple times before. Næmid tells neither Yoki nor Helaku.

Destiny

Destiny chooses all the eternal beings and spirits for their planet. Næmid was chosen for death after their predecessor retired after 3 eons of holding Khela in balance.

Life

Life is Deaths eternal sister, however not his sister of blood. She does not search contact to Helaku, the spirit of life, at all, and although she does continue to give life to the people of Khela, even if less, she is nowhere to be found since the old spirits died forcefully in the night of Helaku and Yokis birth. Næmid assumes she's imprisoned by the murderer of the spirits who just can't hold her back from giving life completely.
