As his childhood friend's spirit began to fade away, Mavis sought a way to keep them on the mortal plane with him. After failing the ritual and being run out of town, Mavis decided to play into the role forced on him and pledge fully to witchcraft.

As an exorcist, Mavis captures wayward spirits and ghosts and toys with them like pets, experimenting with them as he attempts to keep them tied to him. After being called to the old Alburn estate for an excorcism job, Mavis finds the sole heir, Cain, much more interesting than any lingering ghosts.
