The Heroes of Harmony are young mares who are being trained to wield the Elements of Harmony.

The Land of Constellations is the leading country in the world, with its rulers being the victors of the Alicorn war--the benevolent and just Princess Galaris and Prince Vita. The country's capital is Starcenter City, a pure white city created by the princess with a single spell. The city is called "Earth's Star", the "City of Light", and the "Eye of the World". It has a reputation of being perfect, but crime and poverty still exist within it.

The Land of Gardens is hidden away from the rest of the world through magic. Its residents haven't seen the outside world in millennia, but the wards around the land are beginning to fail. The young Princess Campanula is faced with the decision of whether the land should be re-introduced to the rest of the world.

The Land of Light, or the Lightlands, is a vast region at the edge of the known world. It was once the birthplace of all ponies, home to the Princess of Light, but it has become barren since the end of the Alicorn War. It is now covered in pale sand and trees of stone and seldom entered by outsiders.

The ponies who have survived here for generations have mutated in strange ways. Mutants have star-shaped pupils.
