The disgraced half-breed, submitted to a lifetime of persecution and cruelty by the Makar. He served for some years as a member of Hayken's Saber, but this position did little to lessen his mistreatment. Rather, he was branded by the King's alchemists to force his obedience to their will, and later fled the island for his freedom.
"I remember first seeing the scrawny little sapling and thinking 'he's trouble'. Good thing I like trouble. He got me out of that arena, I owe him that. He can be an annoying, grumpy twig but I like his company. He may not think it, but we have a lot in common...and I know he loves the way my body feels. Its been a nice bonus in our travels...Sumaer would have liked him."
"When I first started watching his matches, I thought he was simply another barbarian with a death wish. But he kept winning and something changed over time, and that's when I knew he'd be the one to help me escape. I put my life in his hands and I don't regret it, but this giant, obstinate, beast-man and the journey since has been full of surprises. I honestly half-expected to lose him under the skirt of the first tavern wench we met. I didn't expect to find him under mine... not that I'm complaining."
Beyond his initial feeling of guardianship over a freezing wanderer in a blizzard, Aspyn has come to view the Prince as far more than just a ward in the warmth of his cabin. He admires the man's courage, envies his culture, and feels protective of him as if they were of the same pack. He relates to Cyrus' exile, due to his own isolation from his people, and finds the companionship and the belonging in him that he's never really had before.
While they have not known each other for long, Aspyn is developing strong feelings for Cyrus, and prays that his fears of losing and/or being left by him will not show true.
Cyrus owes Aspyn his life in more ways than one. Ever since the kind woodman rescued him from a raging blizzard and took him in, Cyrus quickly found a kindred spirit in him. In his exile, the world outside his homeland proved to be a harsh place, but being with Aspyn has only reinforced his ideal that there are still good things that are worth protecting at all costs.
