The problem with free OBO

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago by Internetwolfje

We all knew this bulletin was coming. Probably one of the most controversial topics in the whole freebie community! I’ve seen a lot of people annoyed by free obo characters.

At first I honestly didn’t see the issue since there was a chance of getting the character for free right? I even put up a couple of my own designs free obo (only one of them got an offer the others were gifted away for free)

However I soon learned the real reason behind free obo posts (or atleast what most of them seemed to be)

It’s usually just to promote a character that’s up for offer. Most people don’t even have the intention to give the character away for free and just seem to wait for offers.

At first I didn’t mind free obo IF the person giving away/selling the character was actually willing to give it away if it didn’t get any offers. I only had a problem with free OBO posts that only accepted offers and didn’t even want to give them away for free.

But now I just think the whole concept of free obo characters should belong under the sales and offers tags instaid of the freebie ones. Since we all know that about 90% of the time a free OBO character is not gifted but actually sold/traded.

Another problem with free OBO is the selling/trading of freebies. Now what I mean is people are putting of characters they got for free as free OBO, which to me is the same as putting them up for offers. Which btw... is not an okay thing to do. (Unless the person gifting you the character says it is)

Summary of my opinion: Free OBO =/= free

This however is purely my opinion. The last part though (about putting freebies free OBO) is definitly not okay in general though

The problem with none freebies

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago by Internetwolfje

Okay the title is a bit weird but that’s because of the character limit ^^;

Actual title: The problem with none freebies in freebie tags, forums, categories etc.

I mean this one is pretty obvious and very infuriating for many people! But this is happening more and more often.

Freebie forums and tags are not for promoting your sales!!! There are already forums and tags for that!

I understand that it can be frustrating and that a lot of people might not see your sales post etc… but pls STOP. People searching the freebie tag search through that tag for a reason. If people want to buy something they will look through other tags/forums!

I honestly find this so annoying! And this is not because I am ‘cheap’.

Also like I mentioned in my DTA bulletin, offers (both art and characters) do not count as free either!!! (Unless it’s a freebie trade)

Oh and something similar to this is people promoting purges but they justify using the freebie tags/forums because they also have a couple freebies in that purge (usually only a few freebies)

You could have just made a separate post about the freebies!

I have seen people promote sales through freebie posts that didn’t annoy me as much. Usually they add this as a little extra at the bottom for people who are interested and you can see that the post is genuinely about the freebies.
However you have people who do the opposite, they have a few freebies (usually like 2-5 freebies) and then they promote their huge sale! Clearly this post is a promotion for your sale and not for your freebies! People notice this!!!

I will be talking about free obo posts in a different bulletin since I think that’s a topic on its own

T.O.S.

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago by Internetwolfje

I wrote my tos on my profile originally but it takes up a lot of space and kinda looks bad so now I’m writing it in a bulletin instaid (If you know a better place to do this feel free to let me know)

T.O.S.

Freebie tos:

-this tos also includes raffle freebies (aka freebies from f2e raffles) and forum game freebies

-Only adopt freebies if you actually want to use them. No hoarders allowed!

-Do not trade or sell freebies you got from me unless you added art! This includes selling/trading them for art! Art also has value and the freebie has none unless you added art! (You may trade a freebie for another freebie but you have to ask me before doing that! You shouldn’t be trading something you got for free without a good reason!)

-Do not delete freebies off toyhouse without my permission. (If you want to hide them, pls authorize me ^^)

-Do not ‘claim’ any freebies, even if they are fcfs pls ask for them nicely! (I Just hate the word ‘claim’ and ‘snag’)

-DO NOT adopt them to put them into shelters. If that’s your only reason to adopt one then do not adopt them. It’s so shitty! (Wait atleast 1 month until you send a freebie to a shelter after adopting them from me)

-If you get tired of a freebie, gift them to someone, gift them in a forum game, give them to a shelter or just send them back to me (do not make a profit off of freebies!!!)

Adopt/resell tos:

-If you adopt a character from me do not delete them off toyhouse or make them private without my permission! (I want to make sure my ocs and adopts go to nice new homes)

-Do not resell for more than you bought them for, unless they have added art!

-Pls don’t beg to adopt an oc, no is no.

Pls do not give adopts/sell adopts I made to people on my blacklist!

Blacklist

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago by Internetwolfje

Honestly I never thought I would need one. (Sorry for the pings I know people who are blacklisted would probably not want to be pinged but this is to avoid name changes affecting the list, if you feel like I’ve been unfair my pms are open for discussion I’m not unreasonable)

Blacklist:

ZionTheFur

Reason: Trying to sell/trade a raffle character (this raffle was free to enter), then lying about their intentions afterwards (They did send me the character back and luckily I could find them a new home but they lied to me afterwards which resulted in this blacklist anyways)

• @DannyDoodles :puts freebies up for offer (contacted them, they still have some freebies in their ufo folder) I do not trust them to get any of my free designs

Uglyboyo  https://toyhou.se/Uglyboyo Freebie flipping/selling (sold me a character they got for free without any added art)

•@kiracart

If they make a new profile they’ll probably add it here: https://kiramwua.carrd.co/

https://toyhou.se/~forums/5867.service-reviews/304816.beware-wintersolstice-kiramwua-character-theft-

They threatened to steal my ocs and the ocs of others because they were told not to advertise trades in the freebie bin. This person is extremely rude.

Greylist (warnings): These people are not blacklisted but have been warned for breaking my tos and could be blacklisted if they break my tos again.

https://toyhou.se/Autumnbxrries

•Oricale (saw them putting freebies for Ota, I do not trust them to get any of my freebies)

They traded a character they won through a free to enter raffle without adding extra art after I specifically mentioned not to do that

The problem with... (freebies)

Posted 2 years, 3 months ago by Internetwolfje

(Can not make the title long enough)

The problem with adopting freebies to get rid of them immediatly. (+freebie resellers)

So this first part is probably going to be more my opinion than a universal one so feel free to give your opinion down below.

I see this quite often. People adopting a freebie and then almost immediatly putting them in a game thread or giving them to a shelter (to gain shelter currency). You shouldn’t adopt freebies you don’t like, unless you may have a redesign idea and want to change them to your taste. However adopting characters with the intent to never use them seems to rude. I understand that you may adopt a character that you end up not liking as much as you thought or maybe it was just an impulse adopt. In that case I completely understand. It probably happens to all of us. But pls don’t adopt characters if you don’t even like them to begin with.

The things I mentioned above aren’t the worst obviously and in the end they don’t really harm anyone. But I’m gonna talk about a more extreme version of this.

People adopting freebies to sell or trade them.

I don’t think I need to explain why this bad but I will anways. It’s rude towards the person you adopted the character from. They gave it to you FOR FREE. Only adopting them to resell them later is horrible! It’s also unfair to the person you are selling it to. Because you are selling them a character that actually has no value. If you do this you are honestly a shitty person!

Exceptions:

• Redesigning a freebie and then reselling. You made a new design and that also means a new piece of art. In this case you can definitly resell (or trade) for the value of the redesign. (However you can not add the original art pieces as added value since they were free)

• Selling (or trading) after adding more art (only reselling for the value of the added art, free art you got from somebody does not count!)

• Trading for another freebie (However do not adopt characters to trade them immediatly, that’s rude. Only if you adopted the character and lost connection)

•Selling with explicit permission of the person gifting them. (In some rare cases the person gifting a character will allow it to keep its value and is allowed to be resold, I have seen this a few rare times in raffles but it doesn’t happen often) If the person gifting you a free character did not give you the permission to put the character up for sale/offer then pls don’t do that!

Hello there! I’ve decided that there are a couple of things in the freebie community that seem like an issue but barely get talked about. I will make a couple of these bulletins talking about my opinions on these subject. The comments will be open for you to share your own opinion and to share ideas for a next subject!

Now onto the actual bulletin!

What’s the problem with freebies that are DTA?

Well actually with the concept itself... there’s nothing wrong. The problem is people missunderstand the concept. What do I mean? Well freebies that are DTA are freebies you get by drawing a piece of art for the character you are trying to adopt. For the person giving away the adopt this is a way to find a good home and avoid mass claimers since it shows you actually like the character. Personally I find nothing wrong with this. Yes you may have to,draw art for a free character but that art will still belong to you so it’s technically not a payment to the person you are adopting from. Now that’s where the issue and missunderstanding comes in.

The actual problem with DTA adopts.

People have been calling their adopts DTA but instaid of asking art for of the character you’re trying to adopt, they ask art of their own characters! The problem? This is no longer a free adopt! When offering art for a character you are... Well offering something. People having been using DTA (with the wrong meaning) in the freebie tag and in the freebie forums for a while now and it’s bugging me. If you don’t want to give a character away for free don’t put it in any freebie forums or freebie tags! I know your post will get more attention but it’s extremely wrong to do. Other people selling their adopts follow the rules so why shouldn’t you?

Summary: DTA is for art of the character you are giving away, not for your own characters. Do not falsely advertise your character as ‘free’ if it’s not.

I... think that’s about it? If you think I missed something let me know! Feel free to share your opinions!

Any ideas for a next subject/problem?
