"We are maintaining balance of the World, a scale that is constantly tipping into chaos. "

Prodigal

The World can be compared to a scale, regardless of where it tips, will cause an imbalance and chaos will ensue.

...Supposedly there would be something like that. But how come it hasn't happened yet?

Because it is the work of the Prodigal. An organization hides from society in order to balance the scale. They will do anything to maintain the position the world it is now; an excellent balance between good and bad. The Organization most preferably wants to view themselves as a group with good intentions, but if they are not afraid to be viewed as the enemy if it means to regain the balance they want.

The Arbiter

Durand is an artisian and values his craft. Not only he creates the uniform, he only bestows it to those that deserve it. Yet, being a tailor isn't his only role. He's a veteran to the Administration and a "glorified" mentor. Maximille is the appointed Arbiter, a figurehead role just below the Overseer. Maximille extends his leader's voice for the rest of the organization to hear. He represents Grandfather, for he cannot show himself to the public eye.

"Il ne faut avoir aucun regret pour le passé, aucun remords pour le présent, et une confiance inébranlable pour l’avenir. "

He doesn't leave a very happy impression to others. In fact, it's difficult to deal with him. With how hypercritical and strict, it's not expected that the number of people that failed him heavily outnumbers those that succeeded under his mentorship. Thus, the increase of Prodigal members would eventually give him an excuse to stop mentoring and focus on his two other roles. It doesn't stop him from having angry clients in his tailor shop despite dealing with one less stressor in his position...

In the story, it was by protocol that Hope Kirisawa would be Emery's mentor as soon as she joins the organization. However, Hope is absent due to dire circumstances (on official orders from Grandfather) and her mentorship would be passed onto Hope's previous mentor (Dr. Viktor Konstantinov). Viktor's own mentor was the prestigious Maximille and kept him close as Emery continues to learn under his wing. A month into it, Dr. Konstantinov advises that both he and Hope's mentorship would be entirely "biased" and Emery wouldn't reach her full potential. Despite that Durand had little interest in mentoring again and refused on multiple occasions, Viktor remains adamant that Espada can manage being under the Arbiter's critical and demanding guidance.

Once Emery became Maximille's protege, it was expected that it was going to be strenuous and mentally taxing. Yet Emery had already expected Durand will continue to keep an attitude and she would have to patiently handle constant criticism. Espada was warned several times that Durand is hard to please, but her positive outlook only meant that impressing him is not impossible. Overtime she's gotten used to it and the Arbiter eventually opens up to her. She learns Maximille's old name and how his life overlapped with the Prodigal's. Not only that, Durand passes on the Chevalier craft of tailoring, making her the youngest to replicate the most delicate process of clothes making in all of France.

Viktor Konstantinov

The Dean

Viktor is sharp-minded intellect. Reserved to the core while many people view him brazen and fearless. Though it's a recent, but unofficial title, both Maximille and Grandfather regard him the designated "Educator," or the Dean. To alleviate his heavier tasks, he delegates Konstantinov to handle affairs on future Administration members and future proteges. He decides which existing Prodigal member would best fit in mentoring proteges.

" Век живи—век учись."

Dr. Konstantinov was a successful writer in Russia just prior to joining the Prodigal. However, most of the inspiration had disappeared after a traumatic event that horrified him for years. Under Maximille's guidance, he believed it was best that he would leave Russia and move to the United States with him. Eventually Viktor found his calling in Teaching, realizing that his newfound joy in educating those that are willing to learn. A couple of years as a College Professor and a tutor, he also realized he could use this to find multiple Prodigal prospects.

Viktor's interests landed on Hope. Though he was not the individual to find him personally, he was more than willing to take in Kirisawa as long as he attended the same school he taught. Not to promote his own campus, but Viktor found it convenient to mentor Hope if he was close by. They spent most intersessions together, making sure that Kirisawa understood his tasks and polish his social skills for when he becomes an officiate in the Administration. The Professor didn't have much to teach him, since Hope was a natural talent, he took his protege to places where Grandfather needed him the most. Since there wasn't anything left to teach him, he wanted Hope to experience Administration missions to get an idea.

It wasn't long before Hope welcomed their next protege. And it only made sense that Viktor would delegate Kirisawa as her mentor as soon as she entered. But with the surge of events happening within Japan, Hope was pulled out from mentoring under Grandfather's commands. Viktor would take over Emery's mentorship immediately. Dr. Konstantinov was still coming to terms with his past during these times, but he found himself becoming attached to Emery. The longer he was with Emery, the more he is reminded and reminisced moments of his late daughter. He realized his attachment to Espada affected her time in the Prodigal, so he adamantly hands off his mentorship to his late teacher, Maximille. However, he remains present in Emery's development and even encourages her to continue persevering despite how hardheaded Durand could be.

Duncan Kaiser

Veteran Adm. Member

Kaiser does not have an important position in the Prodigal, but still significant nonetheless. He's not very enthusiastic about it, he's worked for the Prodigal with Maximille for a long period of time. He is a renown jeweler outside of the organization, and like Durand, he's quite nitpicky on who deserves to wear his craft.

“An idea, like a ghost … must be spoken to a little before it will explain itself.”

Duncan would have been next in line to take over his family's gemstone business, but did not condone how they handled their work. Kaiser was forced to learn at a young age to cut gems and gave him little time to focus on other things. He left to the United States, where he met Maximille. Kaiser had no interest in the Prodigal activity going on around him, except for when he befriended Maximille. Only because he's viewed the Prodigal Member as a close associate, he had involved himself in the Prodigal solely for him.

Unlike Maximille, Duncan isn't mean. And he likes working independently. In the story, Emery's mentorship was passed to Maximille. Therefore, for a period, she is required to lodge in his tailor shop until she became an officiate. With Kaiser's jewelry shop right next door, she sees him as an enigma each time his visits. Duncan is aware how Maximille liked to work. And Durand is relentless and picky to everyone. Perhaps out of worry, he welcomes Emery to his shop if she needed time away from her mentor's constant nagging. The jeweler was surprisingly the most helpful to Espada, providing advice (although somewhat cryptic) into surviving Durand's fury until he finally opens up.

Lennox is a veteran in the Organization. Like Kaiser, he's significant in terms of his experience, but he doesn't have a major position like Maximille or Viktor. He joined the Prodigal when it was just a small number and Durand was actively looking for participants to work for Grandfather.

“A little nonsense now and then is relished by the wisest men.”

Graham was well aware of Grandfather's mission long before the organization had formed the Prodigal. Helping Maximille, his longtime classmate and friend, he is recognized by their Overseer and rewards him with connections through continued cooperation. Though at first, he didn't care about the Prodigal. He was more concerned of his friend's well being, constantly offering any sort of help before Durand would have driven himself into a hole and succumbing to overworking himself. Overtime his help made him involved with something much bigger than he was expecting and he felt as if he couldn't leave it now.

Even if he wasn't a willing participant at first, Lennox takes pride in being looked upon as a wise veteran member of the organization. When Emery first entered the tailorshop, Lennox was the first to be introduced to Emery as Durand's newest protege. To no surprise that Maximille wasn't too happy with the situation, Graham was more than willing to take Emery as his own. The tailor flat out rejects this, but it doesn't stop Lennox from giving some helpful tips to her when he visits his longtime friend.

Ender

Administration Member

Ender entered the Prodigal only five years ago. And it's long enough to prove himself more capable than the other Administration Members. Currently an active participant on missions consistently, he diligently remains on standby until he receives the message from an Agent, Maximille, or even Grandfather himself. Until then, he's found helping his brother in the Fox's Den, a bar that hosts Administration Members on a regular basis.

"A hole is more honorable than a patch."

Although many question Ender's workaholic lifestyle, the man runs on little to no sleep. He jumps between his job as a butler or a bartender, working an insane amount of hours and ignoring the sensation of being exhausted. He's done this since his teenage years and won't stop until he keels over and die. Ender was long recognized by Durand, who he had worked for previously, and reached out to the tireless man. Perhaps because of his lingering attachment to an "old friend," he doesn't hesitate to say yes and joined as soon as he flew to the United States.

Most of Ender's roles was to slide into their target's home in the form of the party's bartender, butler, or even housekeeper. Unlike most of the Administration Members where they take the direct route first, Ender enjoys slipping through the back and then taking his time while observing his surroundings until the time is right. His keen eyes and ears allows him to delve deeper into eavesdropping to collect vital info like what most Members are tasked with. When Emery was tasked to help Durand with a task, she was suspicious of Ender during their very first encounter. Followed by three other (and similar) situations, Emery gives in and then accuses him of watching the two of them, but would be sadly mistaken. Ender is bemused with the young protege, often stating to Durand that it makes his missions more fun if she's around.

Ender prefers to work independently. Even when most orders involve at least two or more Administration Members. But since Emery came into the fray, his piqued interests towards her had made him think about changing his work ethic for a bit. He relieves the Arbiter for a slight moment by taking Espada into one of his endeavors... behind Durand's back. Emery didn't realize until recently that Ender had such rougish intentions whilst working in the Prodigal, but it has helped the protege in the long run. So far, it's happened twice where the both of them had made trouble for both Maximille and Viktor. Even if Ender received verbal warnings, it won't be long before the bartender reaches out to ask Emery again.

Ouro

Administration Member (The Palace)

  • CREATOR Milkman
  • DESIGNER Milkman
  • BIRTHDAY April 8
  • AGE Late 40s - Early 50s
  • SEX Male
  • MBTI ISFP

Ouro is an Administration Member only by title. But his tasks has always been different from everyone else in the Administration. He makes his living and has a home in the Prodigal's most tabooed section of the Organization, known as the Palace. The Palace is hidden, using the tailor shop as its storefront but it houses the more suggestive, salacious, and risqué residents that use their bodies for business.

"The greatest pleasures are only narrowly separated from disgust."

The Golden Boy is not exactly the most sought after resident in the Palace (anymore), but he is the most liked among all the residents. If he's not given an opportunity for service, he still remains in the vicinities to ensure all of his coworkers are safe, despite there are Agents that hang around as guard duty. Besides that, he generally handles most residential disputes and drama by himself since Maximille (the owner) has very little time handling smaller, irrelevant situations. They call him the supervisor or the foreman in the group, thus he feels responsible to ensure that all his coworkers are satisfied.

As soon Emery settles herself as Durand's protege and his assistant for his tailor business, she meets Ouro quite alot. But never did they exchange any words or greeting. He simply comes into the store before mysteriously disappearing somewhere for the next few days. Because her curiosity gets the best of her, Espada descreetly follows him and discovers the secret paradise of the Palace. Of course, she gets caught soon after but she couldn't be stopped if she wanted to know more about its origins. Unfortunately, even if she had been given the invitation to stay a moment with one of the residents in their respective rooms, she would be stopped by Ouro and Maximille.

During her apprenticeship, she realized she lacked the experience of "attraction" and "seduction," which were necessary characteristics needed for a Prodigal Member. Other members find that they're highly unecessary and not needed for their tasks, but Durand has high expectations. Therefore Maximille asks Ouro to teach her the "art of seduction," but Hope steps in before they'd do anything she'd regret.

The First Five

Specialist Agents

Grandfather has personally sought the attention of five admirable, talented, and dedicated agents that work with him under the radar. For his own safety he keeps them close, but they are tasked to support the Headmasters to ensure success if their mission.

"Having so much power in your hands paints yourself a target. Thankfully, we've got it taken care of."

There are Five Agents present in the Prodigal:

  • [First Agent] Redd: The first Specialist Agent that has officially joined the Prodigal by title. Although he remains mostly by Grandfather's side, he comes at the Arbiter's request in case there's a presence of danger that is needed to be attended.
  • [Second Agent] Maroon: A stoic, reserved, and almost... lifeless agent who remains a mystery to even the Overseer. As well as capable of protecting his company, he has a preference and a desire of killing. He's not capable of socializing, but he's an expert in following the directions.
  • [Third Agent] Scarlet: An agent with a legendary collection of weapons in his stash. Originally a weapons tradesman, Agent Scarlet is well equipped with just about any job given to him. He's not as immoral and apathetic as the first two, but he's resourceful enough to be useful for the Prodigal.
  • [Fourth Agent] Sangria: Originally a Palace resident, Sangria is a figure that's killed more people than actually sleeping with them solely to protect her friends that lived with her. Worried about the reputation of the Palace, Maximille refers to Grandfather for advice of dealing with the situation. Instead he personally requests the company and formally turn themselves into the Prodigal as one of the five agents. The Agent still loves its Palace residents and often guards the sector if they're not on a mission.
  • [Fifth Agent] Garnett: Agent Garnett is the newest among the five, and the most highly regarded and well-liked among the Administration. They abhor working alone, so Grandfather often send Agent Garnett out to support the multitude of Prodigal Agents who are out on a mission.
